Yes the BoP is messed up right now, but only because there are a few OP cars in each class. Atenza, M4, Gr.3 RCZ, Gr.3 Mazda Vision. Once those cars are nerf'd something else will be king. Balancing the cars is an ongoing thing that will always evolve and change based on the race conditions. Some cars being OP at some combos is nothing new and most sensible people are pretty sure the BoP will be adjusted quite soon because it's so obvious that these disparities exist. Until then, you have the freedom to choose any car you want. The Gr.4 GTR has proven to be competitive with the Atenza and so has the M4. Deep Forest Gr.3 last week proved that other Gr.3 cars besides the RCZ and the Mazda were viable there. I can understand being upset about the lack of tuning but it's pretty obvious that they are trying to fix the PP system because of the exploits found in the first couple weeks. Tuning will come back once that is sorted out, but let's not pretend tuning eliminates the inevitability of a META car emerging...it just takes a little longer for the META car and the META tune to emerge.

To point out something very obvious, every real racing class has a "meta".

The concept of all cars having an equal chance exists in games to make it more fun. But even in F1 they didn't like seeing Merc win 8 consecutive Constructors titles. So it's natural to want to see variety.

I think GT does a decent job balancing the 2 . If you view it from season to season.

That has some consequences this week for Race A, as the event features a car that is currently unavailable to purchase.

If you’ve previously bought or won the Mitsubishi GTO 1991 (from the National B Licence), you’ll need to have not performed any irreversible modifications — including widebody or engine bore-out — or you won’t be able to take part.

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Connect Four

There's a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races available from today, with three new races for what looks like the next week. Once again, all three races prohibit vehicle tuning and modification (besides liveries), with Balance of Performance (or "BOP") turned on to automatically set power and we

I broke down and bought a Gr4 Atenza.

Went to B race in Tokyo. The top time is an Atenza wall rider.

Wall-riding is ridiculous.

At least I can go to race C - Barcelona. It is time that I learned that circuit. Will try some other cars too.

And if the races change every week the meta car and tune will be harder to nail down.
Not to mention weather etc thrown into the mix.

I'm having a lot of luck with the McLaren Gr.4 car on race B. Its gears are just really suited for the middle/tunnel part of the track.

I just saw the replay what a joke.

It’s a shame you’re forced to ride the chicane and not take it properly. Every track seems to have one of these turns you have to bodge. But I’ve had fun setting my time for catalunya. There’s a lot of time left to find though.
 
What I do want to get rid of, however, is that the M4 isn't just as meta as the Atenza is. The M4 needs a very special handle, otherwise it is not that fast, between right and wrong there were almost 4 seconds between right and wrong in the Kyoto Driving Park. 2-3 seconds if you practice to the last.
So at least for me the M4 is not a meta car... BUT I really enjoy driving it.

Loved the Gr3s last week. Didn't get a chance to do Spa but did the Deep Forest multiple times. It was my first time ever racing online. Qualified on pole, led all the laps to the win and even got FL.

I know I was in with other people who were new as I was, but it still felt good. Now I have the bug, will be doing more online stuff in the future.

Well done on the win. Doesn’t matter who you’re up against; you’ve still got to bring it home and the pressure of online is a different world to racing the AI. It gets very addictive! Hope to see you on track soon. Is your psn same as here?

Sure, but you forgot a really interesting dimension to tuning...it allows the non-meta cars to have a fighting chance. Just having the option to alter the gears & LSD can have dramatic differences and tuning introduces the surprise factor that a strict BoP race can never have.

Think is time for PD to provide varying levels of BoP racing...and PP races too. Why we don't demand to have multiple options is puzzling.

Have you considered the opposite? The reason player count is low is because of limited races.

EDIT -- it's like a business open to consumers and they only offer 3 items. Let's see, very low traffic...hmm, let's only offer 2 items...oh, even less traffic...let's see, let's offer only 1 item...then everyone will crowd the store to buy!

I am DA at the moment and refusing to buy the meta although I will probably break in the end and get the Atenza. To be honest I am enjoying the online and its my first year of really getting into it.

Thing I enjoy is the battles you face whether it be at the front of the field or near the back of the pack. I am just hoping that more of my battles will be at the front going forward.

I don't disagree that we should have multiple options, tuning and non-tuning races, but experience has shown that more people are interested in the non-tuning races. I get what you're saying about giving the non-meta cars a fighting chance, but that's all it really is....a chance. At Daytona Gr.3, tuning was allowed and it still came down to the Mazda Vision or the Audi R8. Sure, there were other cars here and there but their pace was just not enough. I guess only time will tell. I, like many others, think that tuning will come back once they sort out the exploits. Once that happens, we'll see if the meta cars disappear.
 
Anyone else getting a tad annoyed at the unreliability of the servers in sport mode?

It seems every day I’m left staring at a locked screen either prior to race start or at the end of the race.

During the races, if I get there, the connection bars vary widely. I have cars flying all around, some with apparently no connection. Cars alongside quite often jerk backwards and forwards randomly.

Replays are another example. Many are not smooth at all with the cars stuttering along the tracks. The sound quite often pulses rather than than replays smoothly.

I have a new ps4 with only GT7 on the internal drive and a hard wired connection.

It really feels like the titles availability on PS4 was treated as a “fix” and shoe-horned into the already designed PS5 framework.

Just thought I'd highlight this about tuning events because it is a unique factor that BoP races simply don't have. Like you said, and I agree, there will always be a meta, but with tuning -- what you call 'just a chance' is a different kind of win and how some like me enjoys GT7.

Why else would I be competing with a Cayman in race C? Sometimes it's not just about outright pace & wins. For those that want that, they have the BoP dailies -- and have had them throughout GTS. Why not for a change, spread the wealth and give fun/enjoyable daily races to all those that look for something different.

And if PD is not sure what people will like -- besides the data they have about BoP races -- then they should design more races and let this community choose. It's not just about tuning or not, just look at that daily A. Even though I'm not interested in street car series, many, many players of GT7 are, and to think that is their only option for the entire week is subpar -- it's really tone deaf if I'm being honest.

If I remember correctly, many fans demanded a return to classic GT framework after GTS, and now we have GT7. It would be a wasted opportunity to not take advantage of the pivot back to classic GT by offering daily races that entice the large player base that are hesitant to dailies.

Players are tuning out because there is nothing interesting for them. Racers chasing DR certainly deserve their series, but GT7 is suppose to be more than that, right?
 
Race C for me today. I ran it twice, and was surprised to see a few people pitting. This was my saving grace in the first race, as I messed up into turn 10 on the first lap, and had to struggle my way back up the order. The second race went better, qualifying 5th and finding myself running in a gap that allowed me to save a bit of fuel. I eventually finished 4th.

I'm not going to even try race B. That's way too much crazy for me. But I did do a few qualifying laps in a couple of cars. I'm enjoying the McLaren around there.
 
  1. The M4 can easily keep up with the Atenza and even defeat some Atenaz drivers. (in race C I can't get through all laps without saving fuel, but going to 6 last lap works)
  2. The GTO for Race A is awarded for all gold at National B
  3. Tuning will NEVER ensure that there is no meta, and it is also questionable whether you will then be able to compete with some cars, since the metas are also tuned and their weaknesses are therefore also mitigated. There might be surprises on 1-2 routes, but that's not very likely. There is just a little more freedom instead of the very stiff and currently too hard BoP (brake balance MUST be allowed)
  4. Last week SPA was dominated by the RCZ, that's true, but it wasn't a guarantee for most riders to win because of it. I also drove my Q times with the RCZ, but in the race I only started with my TOM's (it was only almost 0.5 seconds slower in qualifying) but I was able to drive more evenly with it, because the RCZ here and there is a bit "snippy". And I saw some drivers who then flew with the RCZ... and gave me seats as a result. For me, the key to good results was to come clean throughout the race. ( Incidentally, my toughest opponent in one of my SPA races was not an RCZ, but the Jaguar, which is doing surprisingly well. )
