Something I have been meaning to ask. Do any of you have situations where racing is tight and you feel the driver next to you is bumping into you, so you check the replay and yeah, he is! However, you check the replay from HIS perspective and it looks for all the dang world that you wee trying to run him off the road when you know you were holding a line.

Happened to me a few times the past few weeks, its really weird. Red pill or blue pill?

This happens to me too! Not sure why the two replays tell a different story?

OK so not just me. I was going into the tight right after the esses at Seaside last week, trying to make a clean pass and I was being whacked on the side repeatedly. I was peeved and checked the replay and yeah he was whacking me.... then i checked his replay and I am hitting him! Like what the hell.

How are you checking the other person's replay?

I think some of it is also human nature and that we are aware of someone next to us and subconsciously drift to where we look even peripherally (especially dangerous for motorcycle riders)

I save the replay and select the other person's car to view then use chase cam. I'll try and dig it up today.
That's still your replay though, just with a different car selected. It's a recording of your input telemetry and the telemetry received and interpreted by your console during the race from the other consoles.

You need their actual replay to view their replay.

Save/Download the replay, play the replay, change the car u want to see.
Yes, that's how you see someone else's replay, but that didn't seem to be what was being talked about - as confirmed above.

Same. I save the race replay and have full access to the other car’s camera.

At DTS yesterday was going down the big hill before the death chicane. Went defensive (to the right, off the racing line) as a car was catching me. Gave him room to the left on the racing line, but he spun me out. In the post-race chat he claimed I turned into him.

Checked the replay and from my camera angle it looks like he hit my rear. From his, it looked like I turned into him. Both steering wheels were straight. So odd!

THat may be the case, I cannot explain it but if it is the same reply, it is somehow showing two different things? On one it looks clear as day I am holding a line and he is barging me, on the other it looks clear as day he is holding a line and I am barging him. It's weird.

But if you have selected a different car, wouldn't you get the telemetry and position from that car. After all, the replays are recording each car...
No because th game uses (most online games as well) use a sort of interpolation where it renders based on what it thinks is happening.

There will be variances between each players replays as the telemetry used at frame rendering time will not be exactly the same as it takes time for the data to be shared to all players and theirs to you.

For example when you see cars moving about with poor connection they aren’t seeing that in their own telemetry/data

... as seen by your console.

Replays only show the local vehicle accurately. You can't (accurately) see what someone else saw and did by flicking to their car from your replay.

No, they aren't.

Replays aren't recordings. They're telemetry data files, reconstructed by the game to create what you see. The only telemetry actually recorded in real-time is the local device. Everything else is, as it is in the race, what is received, subject to latency, plus guesswork in absent frames (per the below).

You can only reliably see your own vehicle. To see someone else's you need their replay file.

For the most part it doesn't entirely matter - it only really makes a significant difference in poor network environments - but you can't see what someone else actually did from looking at them on your own replay.

But of a shame having gr3 cars on hard tyres at Spa, nonetheless had me a fantastic clean race at lunch started P2 and P6 actually won it, but clean on every corner even the right left at the end of the straight when 2 wide!

Nothing else appeals this week so I’m going to stick with Spa and my 5star livered GTR

Really annoyed with myself as that optimum was basically the last lap as I’d made so much time, hey ho

First race, flag to flag and to be honest really quite lonely pitted 13 in to 14 and could barely see P2 in my rear view the entire race

Errr I wouldn’t brag yours is smaller than mine…

Honestly though, I know I had a couple of bad/unlucky days but the whole matchmaking thing needs to be a bit smarter, just did race B started pole and nailed at T5 and I’d out braked myself fractionally and still hit like a wrecking ball. Sigh. P14 (quitters already before even sector 2 on the first lap!) and finished P7

I just don’t understand why they don’t factor race pace in a little heavier and consistency rather than just this whole DR/SR crap which doesn’t reflect ability just results.

All three races are a freakin' blast this week, don't even know where to begin. Should be a fun evening at the console, if it happens. 🤣

The 'Birds on the oval was on-point last time, was more fun than I thought possible making nothing but left turns.😁

I think Glen is right and there is a little unintentional drift. Specifically I think he nudges me first (accidental) then I recover, get my wheel straight but I am not pointing at quite the right angle, so I think I am going... well. . straight, which I am but needed to drift right.

In saying that it is still incredible how different both POV look.

Very respectful racing all round. Honestly it looks and probably was you trying to take the widest line and they were there. In the moment in the busy phase it all gets complicated.

Nobody did anything malicious or wrong.

I just don’t think that was the place to try anything, it makes it slow and complex/messy. You were much faster and there are more definitive passing places.

Just my 2p/2c

Edit:

Watching back a bit slower and considered it looks like you kept trying to get the wider line and rear ended someone.

I think this is one of the prime examples of visual drift and honestly a symptom of why we all feel race craft is poor because decision making isn’t good. Side by side in the fastest part of the track? While the front pack drives away?
