On the struggle bus at Yas Marina, 5 seconds off the fastest time in the world!

To avoid destroying what’s left of my DR, I’ve been over at Fuji where my QT is the usual 2-3 seconds off the top times.

One question - are you all starting on softs if you’re at the sharp end of the grid? I’ve noticed in recent multi-tire races that some drivers choose the harder compound even if they’re at the front. I assume this is because the early laps are crowded and you can’t use the pace of the faster tire? Otoh, maybe softs allow you to get away and not get caught in the opening laps melee?

I started on softs last night (I was P2) and escaped the chaos, but then got caught by soft runners at the end of the race.
I prefer to finish on the best tire regardless of where I start. I also set my QT using the worst of the tire options available and do all my practice with that tire so that I am most aware of my performance envelope with that tire. Doing it this way allows me to maximize pace on the laps with the hardest tire knowing that i have the softest tire waiting after the stop.

Used to be I would start on the softest if I were in the top 3 in qualifying because it would help to pull away but I'm not consistently good enough to maintain those gaps when switching to the worse tire.

Had generally a good week at Yas Marina, very clean, a win and some top 2-5 at BS, but today, utter rot and couldn’t believe I was in a SR S lobby, folk diving in on the corners and getting all fisty when trying to pass them, pff I hope a one off of midweek grotty pub goers because this track is not nice with a group like this

It’s not a particularly good racing circuit as a whole as the choke points don’t offer multiple lines, they are all narrow or on the limit.

Personally I don’t feel it’s an actually good track but it presents well, and is a spectacle we wouldn’t see typically.

Different note, you can feel the tracks that were “forced” layout wise over those that evolved or are just honest in what they are. yas looks pretty but it’s not a drivers track IMO

Fully agree mate, I think now the novelty wore off the frustrations ppl have are spilling over to whoever is next to pass.

At least there is some other stuff to do until
Monday like TTs before Sardegna hits.

I just hate Fuji too so won’t be going there but still CGV needs some hot lapping I reckon 👍

Agree, nothing worse than getting caught at the end on the slowest compound!

Do you see others doing the same in your lobbies (starting on the slower compound even if running up front)? At Fuji, still see the front runners on softs.

I'm sorry I can't say I've paid a lot of attention lately.
