GT7 Daily Race Discussion

Well, I didn't think my concern a few weeks ago was completely warranted, since I didn't expect PD to actually want to make the Power Pack "pay-to-win", but I guess I was slightly wrong in that regard. :boggled:
I do wonder how these "new" cars will be implemented. Will they even be used in Sport Mode / future Daily races / future Time Trials, and if so, will players without the DLC even be able to rent them?

Basically, what I'm getting at is:
  • If the cars are different in performance to the ones we already had*;
  • If they can be used in online races and time trials;
  • And if players need the DLC to rent these cars for online, which would in turn lock access to some players...

Then I can already see a few select individuals argue it is "Pay-to-win". I'm sure that won't be a heated discussion... :boggled:
Thankfully it's only for a simple Daily Race A. Here's hoping this is the last time this happens...

None of the DLC gift cars are Gr3 or Gr4, so even if they use the others in dailies they're most likely to be Race A.
And if they tried to make it a one-make using one of the DLC cars that'd be howled down, so if they want to use them they'll probably be mixed with base game cars like this race.
I'd love to see a one-make with the desert Beetle on dirt tbh, would be fun.

The rarely-seen tuning race with power and weight restrictions makes another appearance just when the meta car happens to be a Power Pack exclusive?

Wow PD, just wow.

They're not even trying to disguise the intention.

I'm a PP guy and I've not even had enough free time since release to get as far as the prize cars so... double wow I guess.

Hey guys! I'm a returning player from the GT6 era. My PS5 should arrive today. Do we need PSN+ to do the daily races?
Yes. All online multiplayer events, other than in free-to-play titles, require a PlayStation Plus subscription. I also note this in every Daily Races article:
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

This is very odd and not alligned with the strategy of putting the new tracks under free dlcs to avoid playerbase segmentation.
I bought the power pack and I wont be doing race A this week.

Whats the point in winning races just because you have a much better car wich is not accesible for all?

I'm on the verge of giving up with online play.

It's barely playable depending on what tracks they select which is totally out of our hands.

I know im a C & S rated player but consistenly fighting between D & C ratings due to opppsition players not interested in racing fairly. I want to improve but find it impossible with the amount of unsportsmanship i encounter.

Just not getting any fun out of it anymore, i'm only interested in racing against human opponents.

Whats the best racing game around for realism & sportmanship?

The game itself is less important than finding like-minded drivers, those who want to drive fairly and cleanly. Leagues are probably the way to go, in GT7 or anything else.

Sorry to hear that.

I just had a week of racing Fuji in C/S and then B/S lobbies. There were a few dirty drivers but not that many. Had a lot of close, clean, racing. Are you finding lots of dirty drivers even in S (SR) lobbies?

As for other games, Dave Perel’s Sim Grid runs online races for ACC on consoles. But the player count is often low, and I found it no cleaner than a GT7 B/S lobby. Don’t know of other console games that have better online racing than GT7.

Theres a saying in poker that goes like "move up the stakes to where they respect your raises"
It is obviously a joke and you will still find dirty driving in higher lobbies also but surely in a lesser quantity.

Please dont get offended by this but If you are constantly playing against D/C players, that should mean that your skills arent much better than theirs. You can be super clean but if you dont have the pace to leave them behind you wont escape from that hell.

I suggest you to watch a lot of videos of people like Tidgney to learn some techniques that arent that obvious to master (trailbraking for example or how to anticipate and defend against some obvious and malicious drivers)

If you manage to drive like a B rated driver, the pace difference against those D savages should be big enough to build some gaps and move ahead.

As I said before, you will still find morons in B, A and even A+ lobbies but is like a Pyramid.
The more you climb the less you encounter them.

I get that they're trying to shift people to the DLC (and PS5) but as the week goes on this race will become more and more dominated by a handful of people. First, you need the PS5 and DLC, then you need to have actually done the races to unlock this particular gift car, then, if you want to win, you need to invest the time and mental energy into tuning it, getting the aero, gearing, ride height etc set up.
Not good if you're short on time, even if you have the DLC. I've done the race six or seven times today, never out of top 5, but no wins either, couple of close P2s. Focusing on that yellow line is already making me cross-eyed, so don't think I'll be doing many more this week.

Maybe start by just setting your expectations on finishing top 5 or 6 which should increase your DR, stay out of trouble and close race to get your SR up and you should see better racing at CS, BS, I actually think CS is a very nice place to be, BS can be tough with throw downs from DR A.

It’s quite easy to tell this to you granted but another thing to have the patience to do it, I fell to BB Sunday and my first race today was grubby to say the least! Last lap folk serving pens then closing you off from passing, just leads to one thing 🙄

But we try and try again! Stick with it mate, GT7 is the most accessible but you need time to stick in and keep to one race per week, by the weekend you are fully clued up and then a good race craft will see you through.

Good luck, have a good race! 😁

Rather strange that they don’t let power pack cars be rented.
None of the Daily Race A cars can be rented this week as it's a garage-car tuning event. It's not about whether it's a Power Pack car or not.

You can't - and this is inexplicable - rent the Dodge SRT Tomahawk Gr.1 for the current time trial either, even though the other 11 cars are rentable.

This is good advice. Your pace is the way out of the lower lobbies. So set the best QT you can, then work on your race pace/consistency. And use your radar and let the dive bombers go. They usually take themselves out.

Only thing I would disagree with is that higher DR always = cleaner. I think the SR matters. I’d rather be in a C/S lobby than a B/B lobby. And the great thing about SR is it’s easier to get than DR. Just don’t hit anyone!

I think I was in 3 or 4 of your races today. I won a couple and finished on the podium for others (Mark S). I managed the odd pole position too (a rare treat). I didn’t make any suspension changes, just lower front and rear downforce to minimum and you’ll shave 1-1.5 seconds off your quali time.
I’m with you on the yellow line making me cross-eyed.

You'd be surprised how many people feel like you. In fact, I'm suspicious anyone regularly racing online and not feeling like this from time to time might be a bit, er, strange. (Exempting those like Tidge and Famine who make a (semi-?)living from it...)
It's human nature, going racing online you're effectively out in public, and if you think about all the great, good, bad, mental nutjob people you might run into when out for a walk in your local town centre, well, it's the same in Sports Mode (or this forum).
You will encounter more good people than bad, but the bad stand out. I regularly take sabbaticals from online when I'm feeling negative about the time wasted, but it doesn't put me off permanently, so I'd recommend that.
I'd also recommend just doing car-track combos you really like. Don't just do it for the sake of it. If there's nothing appealing I'll sometimes go weeks without touching Sports Mode.

I know I’m highly cynical by nature but man the optics on this is exceptionally poor for PD.

If you ignore:

1. Corporate Greed (we get its Xmas period an we get you want to push it, but this is so blatant)

2. That it was a deliberate choice gameplay wise as well, which is designed to put a PP car on top of the leaderboard.

If we ignore those 2 things there is still the bitter issue of dropping it in and using it in arguably one of the least played game modes, populated by a mix of hardcore GT fans who play on and offline but also those that genuinely have no desire to race anything other than real opponents all while making Spec 3 and still not touch anything in sport mode beyond some DR and SR formula stuff.

Couple that with unimaginative race rosters (it’s not about extending sport or more races) they have all the tools already there to make it feel fresh….but no, they took the cash grab choice.

Very disappointing strategy and tactics IMO

Hey yeah, hello. Think you won when I had a very close P2. Well done.
It's a good race once the Mustangs escape any aggro from the Ferraris and Vipers in the first couple of laps.
Good luck if you're sticking with this one, I might come back to it, but race C looks especially tempting this week, and even B looks OK with the boosted payouts. Will look out for you wherever, nice to come up against fair drivers (even if they beat you...)

Edit: for typos
