Couple that with unimaginative race rosters (it’s not about extending sport or more races) they have all the tools already there to make it feel fresh….but no, they took the cash grab choice.

Very disappointing strategy and tactics IMO
Yes, it clearly exposes the strategy behind their Daily Race choices throughout these years... there's no incentive from their pov to mix up the recipe with the many unused circuits and cars in this amazing game they've created.

The only saving grace for Race A (lol, rhymes) is that it doesn't affect DR nor SR, so it's basically just for funsies.

It seems as if their intention is for it to be NASCAR styled anyways. Maybe they saw there were enough liveries created and said yup, will the playerbase accept this style of racing

Good racing in race B today - been a long time since the 911 has been my car of choice, but it works really well here.

A win, a second place, and then another win saw me back to DR B, but it's taking longer to recover my SR!

Managed 5 races today and I’ve tried the 911, the Supra and the 296 and I have to say I’m settling with the Ferrari, just feels a little more planted in the turns,

I managed a 1.42.5xx which I think I can take a few tenths off but it’s good having a proper race track back, the participants are a little to be desired but hopefully by the weekend those guys are further down the rankings 😁

The race format is fine, curated cars are fine.

Making the fastest car a DLC single player car that can’t be rented is not a themed race, and using the other cars (GT3s) and not single Toyota Crowns or similar.

It’s a pre Xmas cash grab and A is the mechanism to test this sort of “sales incentives” and definitely not about racing it’s not even pretending it’s just blatant funnelling to the DLC

Edit:

Another thing that is highly hypocritical is making players watch the “what is sportsmanship” and then bypassing what that means with you wanna win? You want to race fairly and competitively?

Pay up.

Well, I didn't think my concern a few weeks ago was completely warranted, since I didn't expect PD to actually want to make the Power Pack "pay-to-win", but I guess I was slightly wrong in that regard. :boggled:

Thankfully it's only for a simple Daily Race A. Here's hoping this is the last time this happens...

None of the DLC gift cars are Gr3 or Gr4, so even if they use the others in dailies they're most likely to be Race A.
And if they tried to make it a one-make using one of the DLC cars that'd be howled down, so if they want to use them they'll probably be mixed with base game cars like this race.
I'd love to see a one-make with the desert Beetle on dirt tbh, would be fun.

I don’t know, they could still do something like the PP events. The DLC cars on the left are better performing than the cars to their right. Though they could still tune accordingly.

I did something naughty:

If you want to see the difference between the Mustang and the rest of the field watch this. I think I counted ten seconds between me and fourth at one point. Haven't had a week like this since the Jimny engine swap and this was on pace alone.

Disclaimer: I was going buy the PP at Xmas anyway, so I just bought it forward, I didn't do do this strictly for the pay to win.

Ooof, race c can get tense, shame I got punted off at end of lap 1 which essentially ruined my race but hey ho started getting dry mouth chasing guy infront to get p8. Try again tomorrow, did a few race b this morning which was fun got my first p3 and p5 in a total 4 races. First time I got a top5 since switching to the gyro wheel.

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Illusion of Choice

There’s a bit of a strange look to this week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with two races featuring specific car lists, a tie-in with this weekend’s Gran Turismo World Series final with a big credit boost, a tuning event, an oval race, and one which looks shockingly pay-to-win...
Pay to win? Noooooo, this is just an issue with a new car's BoP. No screwy economics to see here.

Seems a sneaky way to 'sell' the PP anyway, to use one of its exclusive cars as a meta in a race straightaway. Or good business, I guess...

Sadly I don’t think it is. We’ll probably get more of these events pushing people toward the Power Pack.

I hate Daily A and that it's pay to win. I also hate that I'm not at all surprised given the state of literally everything else in the world

PD goin' in hard on PS4 stragglers...
Good for business, bad for how it looks.

I get that they're trying to shift people to the DLC (and PS5) but as the week goes on this race will become more and more dominated by a handful of people. First, you need the PS5 and DLC, then you need to have actually done the races to unlock this particular gift car, then, if you want to win, you need to invest the time and mental energy into tuning it, getting the aero, gearing, ride height etc set up.
Not good if you're short on time, even if you have the DLC. I've done the race six or seven times today, never out of top 5, but no wins either, couple of close P2s. Focusing on that yellow line is already making me cross-eyed, so don't think I'll be doing many more this week.
Honestly think that Race A should be boycotted...

I'm on the verge of giving up with online play.

It's barely playable depending on what tracks they select which is totally out of our hands.

I know im a C & S rated player but consistenly fighting between D & C ratings due to opppsition players not interested in racing fairly. I want to improve but find it impossible with the amount of unsportsmanship i encounter.

Just not getting any fun out of it anymore, i'm only interested in racing against human opponents.

Whats the best racing game around for realism & sportmanship?
I feel your pain. Having collected all the cars from my primary account (low A / high B DR), I embarked on an alt account starting from the bottom.
I found C DR annoying and progress slowed by being taken out by ramming all too often whilst I tried to play fair. I decided to ignore the daily races for a while and focus on GTWS. Not only do GTWS races offer greater DR rewards, the standard is usually better.
If you are in daily races - the better you qualify, the safer you are. Others have mentioned @Tidgney's race guides, and i second that - it's excellent advice. Once you get to high C, near B level it's less bad. Stick with it!

Pretty sweaty out there in A+/A lobby North American C race just now. Q5 (of 8 qualifiers) to P12 at the end. Pushed off, shoved off, rammed off and brake checked almost off in a very un-fun race. Blue DR though, so a little victory.

Sad to read that because my experience was quite the opposite so far.
Did 3 races in A+/A american lobbies and it was all fair and super fun races.
If the rest of the week goes like it has started for me, it should be glorious

Well it’s been a long time since I raced this early, such is my fondness of Sardegna A, took a few tenths off my QT, down to 1.42.2xx and that could be it.

Two contrasting races, stating p2 against the same 911 RSR, me in the Ferrari 296,

First race completely binned it in that tough section at the end and quit 😁 second race, won! Now that’s out of the way I can enjoy the racing this week

Strange isn't it, I found the 296 a bit loose in the turns, whereas the 911 seems to stick like glue!

My first win yesterday came courtesy of a couple of 296 drivers. I was in P3, about 2 seconds behind them, and the guy in the lead caught the outside kerb on the final turn - his car turned 90 degrees to the right, straight into the side of the guy in P2.

The other win was fortuitous too. I followed the 911 in P1, about 4 seconds back, for the whole race. On the last lap his internet connection indicator went red, and he started lagging all over the track. Just as he got to the finish line he lost connection completely - I got the win, and he showed as last!

For those who don't want it, it's fair they can not use that Mustang.
When I published my article yesterday, the lead not-Mustang was 1.5 seconds slower than the lead Mustang. On a 44.5-second lap.

Are there any thread regulars who:
a) Don't have the PP DLC,
b) Want the Mustang, and
c) Don't mind taking a mild leap of faith?

There's something that I've been interested in trying. HMU.

Yes, and it's fair. Those who pay more, usually get better stuff. Or maybe pd just making experiments, but it's fine . Real life technical sport is also not BOPed :)

Not in my opinion, it's not.

My interest in Gran Turismo was revived relatively recently, due to my eagerness to compete in online racing... i wished for fair competition, a test of skill, and an opportunity to try and master many different vehicles. Not to be a pawn in a marketing experiment.

(It's moot anyway, because currently I'm serving a month-long ban for a still-unknown infraction of Ts&Cs, but that's a completely different issue)

Come on. Game was releasing tones of amazing dlc for free, and now people so angry for one single pay move :)

Yes, and it's fair.
By definition it is not.

It also all-but excludes PS4 players - a dwindling section of the playerbase, but still - from any possibility of a competitive experience in one-third of this week's events...

Real life technical sport is also not BOPed
Not only is real-life motorsport often subject to BOP regulations, cars are now having mandatory, standardised torque sensors fitted to ensure they're not sandbagging to secure a better BOP or sidestepping it once applied.

It's very arguably about perfect modern POB regulations, modern wec is a good evidence :) soooo.....
How do you bop young athlete runner with old second hand crappy shoes against someone who has new professions shoes

Track athletics is not subject to BOP, nor is the sport replicated in a game which replicates motorsport and has an esports component intended as a level playing field for all participants.

Race A is basically P2W and excludes a large section of players previously not left unsupported. This is not such a difficult concept that you need to introduce specious and irrelevant comparisons.

It also didn't need to be this way - making the car(s) available to rent solves both issues - and not as bad as it could be due to the race being unranked.

I agree with the bolded part.

Had i decided to exclude myself from the PP due to financial reasons or others, i would not be complaining about not being a part of it, as it would have been my own choice. But to cross-pollinate a piece of Single Player, optional content into the supposedly skill-based online environment feels like PD have done a 180 turn on their moral compass.

How's Race A going in practice? Do people without the paid for meta just not race anymore? Or is there a race within a race for best of the non pay to win racers?
It's a fun race, so lots of other cars still. Usually 4 or 5 Mustangs, then a load of the others. Ferraris are really good at the start, so for one or two laps they're in the mix. Seem v unstable though, so they crash out a lot (often taking Mustangs with them). And they can stay with the Mustangs if they're careful to slipstream/bump rather than fight/bash, but the Ferrari seems to attract the fighty, bashy type of drivers as far as I can tell.
Some people can clearly set up the Mustang really well, or have loads of time to try things out, so some of them are now much faster than others too.
I wish it wasn't a tuning race. Just using stock/BoP cars would be great.

Edit: And of course if there wasn't tuning, they could offer rentals, so those without the DLC/PS5 wouldn't be fewmin'...
