@Barney Da Dog awesome rig, I am somewhat hunting/reviewing one of these too, keep being led towards the aluminium square base with a 90 angle upright but it just looks ugly 😁 yours does look cool and that seat is quality! I need to get more immersion 😁
Will send a message about TR rig soon

Edit @brockie - can't send you PMs

If anyone wants to get a lovely & informative guide on which cars to use for Race C & also understand/learn on trying to save the tyres as much as possible for not making a pitstop, I'd suggest watching Calster's video below. I believe he's a part of GTplanet as well with another nickname though.

What I really loved about this video which he uploaded is in the start he suggests a few cars which would be good for qualy & which would be good for the race. They're necessarily not the same cars even. Take a look:

DOWN SHIFT GEAR CHANGES:

Still having problems with downshifts in Sport mode despite having updated to what I believe to be the latest driver - 474

The change log includes, for Podium DD Bases... fixed miss-shifts and button input issues with the Button Modules

However, no change. It's a real issue when diving into a corner and the damn thing misses one or two downshifts.

Any news or updates on this issue would be gratfully recieved. Thanks

It was part of the update, essentially previously you could bang down the box way beyond the hard and soft limiters, in the real world especially in modern cars it’s nigh on impossible to do this without killing the clutch, synchro mesh and actual cogs (autos and dual clutch won’t allow it either)

So they added some crude blocking to when you can shift which better aligns with reality and mechanical sympathy.

It’s an adjustment for a lot of people who typically do a lot of braking and downshifting on the same phase rather than coming down the box more naturally. It’s not a big a issue in VR as we can see the actual rev counters so real life mental model kicks in for me at least so I shift more naturally in the braking phase.

Absolutely hating it 😁

I have the week off for the holidays, so I was hoping to get some more practice in this week for the coming GTWS Manufacturers Cup season at Daily Race C with the Renault and Aston Martin cars. I had some decent races yesterday before everybody figured out that the winning strategy is a no-stop. None of the cars from these manufacturers can do a no-stop, though, so all my recent races have had me puttering around the back of the field with the one or two other drivers who are still pitting.

Not bad racing, but not great for the DR rating either. Perhaps that's not so bad, though. If these cars are going to be this uncompetitive when the GTWS rolls around, best to have my DR level set accordingly.

Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating. See you out on track!

I haven’t race or driven really for a week or so now properly as I’ve had one of the cold viruses going round that as its parting gift leaves you not only sofa bound for a couple of days but as a good bye present, here have conjunctivitis as well.

Depressingly my daughter seems to have caught it literally before Xmas day :(

I’ve started to feel a bit better so done a few more laps eyes permitting and whilst I probably won’t race any of these this week just not my thing I did manage a respectable high B time for daily B

I did two race today one with the 650s which is easier on the tire and managed a nonstop but I was incredibly slow on the last 3 lap ~1:58
On my second one I try my RSR and I didn’t really try to nurse my tires and did a 1 stop. Forgot about the bb so at the end of my second stint my front right was gone (only 6 lap). I still feel like I had better overall pace with a stop but i drive with a controller so tire saving is a little harder for me.

On an another note what is your go to car for this race? The leaderboard is really mixed.

Yes I’m actually thinking now it’s a good way for ppl to learn to brake slowly in for fast out, so it’s growing on me 😁
I think this is the actual thing they were trying to do, especially with adding the telemetry feature in…..they are more joined up thinking than we give them credit for.

That said this weeks dailies are definitely ā€œpositionedā€ to get people to explore single player or ā€œcoughā€ dlc with my coercive tin foil hat on

It takes some getting used to and is worse in some cars versus others, but workable...eventually. I was COMPLETELY wrong in thinking the SF cars were gonna be a good test bed/learning event for this update. Didn't occur to me that they brake so hard I'm not sure its even possible to run through the gears too fast. Save mapping a macro maybe, lol??

It has taught me to be VERY aware of my downshifts/timing. It's disorienting/feels weird when it's in 'no shift' mode and causes an instant panic attack when the gears don't drop. I half wonder if it's because the car is actually slowing down -vs- sliding when it was bouncing off the limiter previously. Whatever it is, still learning.🤣

IMHO, don't think anything is broken. That said, if you WANT it to be the base to foster a "Hey, I need to replace this..." conversation, sure, it's your hardware. A fresh batch of New Years sales are just around the corner, right?😁

Cheers mate and merry Christmas too,

I guess like anything simulated they could change it a little so it’s less noticeable because for example the last corner at Bathurst, keeps ruining my lap! 😁

Not too fussed this week because the racing isn’t much fun there anyways, god damn corner bombers.

But it’s great the game keep improving

Won't lie, not in the 'improvement' camp yet, lol. I kinda wish it would queue the next gear for you at least, but I'm willing to stay positive while we see where this goes. šŸ‘

Yeah, final turn kinda blows. I'm hitting the brakes at the shadow on the road, banging down to 2nd / sometimes riding 3rd and flatten the hell out of it. G70 has been doing really well through there. Wish I could get some other stuff 'round as quickly. F-Type, Mustang, 4C, etc are all a blast to drive, they just can't keep up.

BTW, anybody else short-shifting this pig (G70)? Boost seems to drop hard after 6500 so I've been shifting there. Wondered what others were doing.

I’m slightly short shifting it as well or just holding a higher gear (typically 3rd).

On the shifting change I don’t mind it to be honest, but I tended to focus more on my braking first so wasn’t going down the box that quick before.

I have done one race all week….won (one) and done for me…

Had a great Daily Race C this morning as it is boxing day, at Grand valley, but it wasnt without it's fair share of bumper cars and crashes!!! Managed a podium finish this time with the great 296 GT3 and hopefully can refine my DR and racing to get to the top next time!

Bathurst is also growing on me now, taking me back to the gold I got on the circuit experience now and finding some lines and a time which has me in the mix, 2.15.8xx

Won’t get into the 2.14s unless I manage to hold on to this runaway rollercoaster! It’s certainly a ride!

Managed a win which was unexpected and lucky as hell, more so the first few getting penalties and then just not quite catching me so I’ll have that.

Rather late in the week, I've found 4 tenths around Mount Panorama, which puts me back in the first 2 or 3 rows now. Managed to pick up another win after P1 got a penalty on the last lap.

Not sure if it's the new rig, new wheel, whisky, or the Mad Max Interceptor livery, but I can finally seem to be competitive there.. (for now)

Ranks up there with 'The Wraith' as one of my favorite movie cars, lol.

I've really started to have some fun at Blasthurst. It's all the thrills and irritations of the 'Ring in convenient, easy to carry packaging. 😁

EDIT - I used to refer to my '04 GTI as the last of the VR6 interceptors. 🤣

A reminder for anyone doing Daily A: The 3 '90s cars are effectively a separate sub-class with 200 horsepower less than the rest of Gr.B under BoP. Do not pick them unless you enjoy losing.
In picked the lancer and did 1:33 as my PB whilst others did 1:24.. what is the reason that I’m that much slower (yes there are sectors where i can still improve but 10 seconds is simply too far a gap)

Glad to help but, as @newmedia_dev implied, a clip of a lap/race could be helpful. Other stuff that doesn't require video support would be:
  • Are you on a wheel or controller (only matters as places to check and available settings are vastly different, lol)?
  • Are you using any of the in-game assists (Traction Control, Steering assists, etc.)
  • How long have you been racing?
  • Have you completed any of the Circuit Experiences in-game?
Just some anecdotal stuff to see where you're at so we can try to get you pointed to where you want to be.😁

@DeathMagnetic

I hadn’t tried a lap in this one this week so I just went and did 5 laps in the rental lancer and in 5 laps (first driving I’ve done today) I got to a 1:24.8 (left the diff/torque settings as they come).

If I can offer some tips:

- you need to brake a lot earlier than you think, if you use ghosts set it ahead and brake when you see them braking not when you get their markers.

- the power understeer is huge in this Combe with these cars and tires so, either wait till you are much more straight to accelerate, IF you are comfortable with throttle balance you can get on it early but you will have to do some quick lifts to avoid running to wide.

- if you are using MT then 3rd or even 4th is what you want for most exits, with coasting mid corner the smoothest way round.

Had a peach of a few races today, best moment me chasing this guy down the back straight down the hill at Bathurst coming up to a car, went left, he went right, passed car in the middle, everyone doing what they should.

Grabbed a win where the guys behind me simply imploded and I was 4secs clear at the end of the first lap, so no pressure.

Actually looking forward to willow gr3 next week, always dismissed it previously but I think I’m going to embrace it for a week
