I haven't tried the race yet, qualifying was bad enough - not because of the car, but because of the really low sun.

As an old guy with cataracts in my eyes, the sun makes it impossible to see where I'm going! 😂

It may be different in the race of course....

Talking of qualifying re racing, has anybody else noticed that you appear to be sitting closer to the track in quali compared to the race? It was especially noticeable at St Croix last week.

One lap of quali was enough for me, I just can’t get it with the care in race A!

Now you mention it on the quali vs races. I have 100% had times where I’ve started a race and felt “wow this feels weird” like it looks really different so it must be the same thing! I just thought I was losing my marbles from my too many blows the head at rugby in my 20’s 😂

Wow your time is fast for race B 😳. Used your ghost 👻 and knocked off .360 so thank you 🙏🏻.
Onwards and upwards and time to analyse ‘our’ laps in the data logger 👨🏻‍🎓

Love that! Well done mate, glad it helped 🙌🙌🙌

Just saw your YouTube link and dropped a subscribe 💪💪💪

osshhhh getting close - have you cracked into the 47's yet?

How you getting on in the A lobbies? where is that QT putting you on the grid?

Question for you guys to help me out as its an area I'm struggling with:

Braking fully vs using the full width of the track?

I'm always torn between braking later and getting more stopping power on the track vs going wider for a better angle but sacrificing braking power as i seem to slip and not slow as much if I am on the curb.

For example at DT this week the first chicane I'm staying on the track but I'm not nailing this section but when I try and go out wide on the curb I fly past the turning point?

Am I understanding it right that I am sacrificing braking for angle if I use the curb? is there a tip/trick to this that i am missing? I had the same thing at RBR on T2 and T3

No not yet, actually getting tired of driving this Atenza now might switch to the cayman or G70 or something for the weekend.

Still hanging in there at A, 30500 or so, so probs not for long 😁

Braking is my Achilles heel bro so can’t help you, what I read is brake hard and use the ABS to the full and come off the brake and start accelerating way before you think you need to 😬🤣

Thanks to people giving some tips in this thread I sailed into the 48's at race B: 1:48:8. I still can't take the chicane flat out, but golding the circuit experience (which I apparently never tried before) definitely helped.

My first sector I think is actually quite okay. After the hard braking zone into the first chicane I can step on the gas slightly before the apex and never release it until the last corner of the sector. The beginning of sector 2 is, apart from the CoD, my weakest part of the track because I struggle a lot with trail braking. I constantly over slow the car there. Later this week I'm going to practice it some more. If I can nail the trail braking there and have a decent CoD experience I can get close to a 1:47 laptime. Often I am about 2.5 - 3 % slower than the top times, but I think I can get closer on this track.

I also did 2 races from the back (P15 and P16), finished P8 and P9 after a lot avoiding bumper cars.

All curbs arent the same. The super serrated ones are sometimes not worth braking on, but usually you just have to apply brake pressure a little differently to avoid getting into the ABS too hard.

Try different brake shapes on the curbs and youll probably find something that gives you good braking and lets you use the extra angle. It usually just wants a slightly more progressive application of pressure but sometimes you need to trail off differently as well.

I think that when you brake with half car on the curb you'll probably end up understeering toward the apex. That's because you're steering too late, with still to much braking power applied. Check Damien lap, you'll see line wise what I mean. In that particular chicane you're normally well of brake ar 2 cars length before the apex, coasting and slamming on the throttle just before touching the curb. Try braking a lil before to get used to the final trailbraking in order to be always in line, carrying the more speed you can during coasting.

Think I might try someting different but I'm so used to the Atenza. I've never driven the Ferrari or Huracan so would like them to be quick but don't think they will be.

@DexManning @Gurzu Thank you for the advice - will try and implement this when I get home, Altho Dex I think your advice might be a bit above my skill level at the moment  Gurzu - I deffo struggle with the coasting, I always feel like I am wasting time when I coast as feel like I should always be doing something! Will try it later but I don't think I'm getting any quicker.

I NEED to stop watching Tidgneys guide in the mornings as work as he makes it look so easy and I go home and lunch and spend 45 mins sticking it in the wall and the grass trying to copy and go back to work all deflated!!!! 🤦‍♂️

I don't think there is any more in the laps for me and I think I actually need to try and get some consistency so think I will just try and string some quali laps together at race pace rather than hot lapping as I'm starting P1/P2 and making some mistakes

Would recommend watching Luc Nodaro’s video on braking, shared here recently. It’s very detailed and eye-opening.

Also just on watching Tidgney’s videos. It’s become a weekly ritual for me now. I work from home on Mondays, watch his short with breakfast and stop work in time to watch the full video before dinner. Even on tracks I think I’m familiar with there is always useful info. Drove myself slightly mad though last night, trying to follow him through the chicane of death flat out, and dying every time. Nearly flipped the car once 🤣. And there he is just cruising through smooth as butter 🙄.

Argghhhh

And back to DR B

Double 🥴
47 is coming!!!! I might see you in the lobbies this eve!!!! Although I think I'm 4 hours ahead so i will be jumping off as you're jumping on!!!

You'll be back up in A in no time! you just need a combo where you can get yourself into the middle of A one week don't you and stay there. So hard when you're just a few bad races away at the bottom of a grade.

After 2 days of driving a little around the Ring in reverse for Race C, I'm starting to get the hang of the circuit. I switched to my ever dependable AMG GT3 '20. I was using RCZ earlier for stability purpose but when I switched to the AMG, I got speed & great handling in return. Due to being a FR car, it suits my driving style around this track which I love.

Took part in one race where I started in P4 (that time my qualy time was somewhere 8:21:xxx). Chose RM (2 laps) - RS (1 lap). Kept my nose clean & focused on myself. Initially, one or two players who were faster (RS) than me, I let them overtake me so as to not hurt each other's race. As the race progressed, I got more & more comfortable with the car + track layout. I ended up finishing second even some distance behind first placed driver.

After the race, I put in some hot laps to try lower my qualy time. Was able to lower to a best of 8:02:534 which even surprised me. My optimal was damn close to enter the 7 minute category with a time of 8:00:247. Will try some more hot laps tomorrow to enter in the 7 minute range. I even tried the Viper & Audi R8 (my choice for Manufacturer's Cup). I wasn't able to lap even as half as decent as the AMG. Loving this circuit now & to be honest, certain parts are so breathtaking to drive through. However, I dread the track between sectors 2 & 4 as it's so twisty with highs & lows in track altitude. AMG is my Meta. A coincidence as the SLS AMG Gr. 4 was my Meta at St. Croix last week in Race C.

Slightly off topic.

But does anyone race any other games? I racing or LMU on PC?
I dabble now and then. I've spent time in Project Cars 1 & 2 until they went belly up. Spent time in the new NASCAR game. It sucks for anything single player so I beat the ARCA season 2x and quit playing.

Honestly the racing game I spend the most time in that isn't GT7 is Mario Kart.

GT7 and a bit of FH5 are the only ones I do multiplayer.

Single player I play a few others - ACC, Motorfest, Grid Legends, Nascar. Probably iRacing Arcade and LMU when they come out on console.

Waiting for the Steam Machine or similar (don't do Windows) before I jump into the PC stuff like AC Rally, RaceRoom, AMS2, etc.

It would probably help my driving if I just focused on one.

Nah you got it, just really think about the rate at which you apply the brake pedal and pay attention to how much red bar youre seeing on the brake meter thing. I almost guarantee that when youre feeling the car not slowing down as youd want youre deep in the ABS, applying pressure a little slower should keep that from engaging as aggressively.

I've always played racing games on PC or since PS3 & PS4. My all time favorite has been:
PC:
Midtown Madness (Chicago),
Mercedes Benz Truck Racing,
Need for Speed II SE.

PS4:
Gran Turismo 7,
F1 2017 (play this older version for career specifically in Sauber).

Ok thanks mate - will try this. I am very lead footed so let’s see if I can break out the old soft feet 😂

@Barney Da Dog don’t think I haven’t see you sneak in trying to ruin my day in the sun like a silent assassin 😂

Thanks for the feedback on other games everyone! Having a bad day, haven’t made it through T 2 without dropping a minimum of 8 places 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I was in P2 and an Italian lad in P4 went for a double dive bomb straight past P3 into me 😂

Hello everyone! Good to be back as this week has been the first time in over 2 months I actually have more than 20 minutes time to spend racing 😅

Had a go at Dragon Trail today and happy with time and consistency since I am rusty compared to before 🥳

I hopped into 2nd account and almost matched my main PB so jumped into a race and started P12 but it was crazy - I could have stood on the podium (I believe so anyways) but I made 3 silly mistakes and ended up finishing in P6 so happy but disappointed at the same time...

Hope everyone is doing OK and have a nice race-week!

Nice to see you back buddy!

I got a friend request from tecmessa this week and added and yet another person goes above me in the leaderboard 😁

Thanks for the vid I shall study it and see if I can gain some time from it 👍

Exactly 3 1/2 weeks ago my lovely lady got me a Logitech wheel on my birthday, and after a lot of hours filled with confusion and desperation I have managed to get back at my initial pace and even beyond that.

I've clocked in a 1:48,202 with an optional 1:47,9xx on Daily Race B with the G70.

That just feels so satisfying...

Edit: The hardest part is braking, steering inputs and the kerbs... Oh boi how I underestimated these on the Gamepad before, but I'm pretty optimistic that I'll get this too soon with enough practise.

Happy Fresh Prince Of Bel Air GIF

@brockie Biggest time killer is the infamous chicane of death.

I'm still reluctand to go through there fully flat out...

I feel ya, I tend to lift first practice lap to get the feeling and then just do it second lap with about 20% success rate 😁

Luckily in race ppl do it upfront and all you have to worry about is dodging them 😂

I'm using the G70, and managed to improve my time - first race with my new time and I'm on pole position 😲. Finished second aftet getting taken out on the last lap....

I've tried the Atenza again, and it's 1.5 seconds slower than the G70 for me - must be doing something wrong with it 🤔

Another Suzuki Swift in a race today - pole position to a win by 6 seconds....
