You’re keeping your lap times in the race fairly consistent though aren’t you?
This is the biggest secret sauce, not being the fastest but really comfortable running a certain pace. That buys optionally and instinctive control which avoids some of the drama and over pushing.

Gents how far off of your optimum are you usually in your quali’s?

Each week I find myself 3-4 tenths away from my optimum and I feel like this is too big a gap? Like this week I have a 1.31.993 and my optimum was a 1.31.613

I trying to self diagnose and I feel with my wide range in race pace of 1.5-2 seconds between laps and being this far off optimum I have a real consistency problem?

Are you guys much closer to your optimum?
Hard to say, cause my optimum always improves following my pace's improvements. Basically it start to really "shrink" (I mean the gap between actual and optimum) when you get near the top of leaderbord (lets say inside the 100 best times). Usually it depends also from the average gap we have from the best times. The higher this gap, the higher room for improvements; wich gives a bigger delta from actual to optimum.
Especially when "it clicks" and we unlock a particular corner or sector. Pace wise I believe it's more important to be able to stay within 2-3 tenths from your best time consistently.
F.i. me getting in the 34's club at Deep Forest, one of the tracks I know best.

There are still few outliers when pushing, but I'm sure you'll get my point.

Unfortunately I’m missing the sauce. I’m content enough with my out and out pace as it’s keeps me mid grid in A which would give me some good racing if I could get consistent race laps.

Need to work out what I’m doing wrong.

Not sure if it’s easier to build consistency or pace. Guess I’ll find out 😂

Yes so you’re looking at a tenth there not a big gap like mine so there’s fundamentally something wrong as I have that gap every week.

Agreed on the staging within your best time so that’s something I need to put some focus into!

Honestly, it’s not technique it’s refining consistent pace. You can’t build from a good lap without good consistency and you only get quicker consistency with better understanding of how you make the lap corner to corner.

There comes a point when you really have to start mentally preparing each corner 2 corners in advance and let the subconscious take over the moment stuff. It frees up so much thinking and prep time it’s unreal. Plan, perform, do again each lap.

Last night I did yeah, I think i did 11 between 33.1 and 33.5 in free air. I do find the BB needs to be shifted as the stint wears on, in the 911 anyways, I start at +3 and move it forward as the tyres fade to stop the rears locking into the tight sector 2 corners. Not massive lock ups but enough to bleed a few tenths.

Yeah I feel that pain mate on learning new tricks. That's why I'm going to trial out these two accounts in A and B and just race wherever I'm having the most fun that week. That way it doesn't matter if PD give a shocking combo, I will find somewhere to race competitively.

Hope you find a solution mate, always good to tussle with you on the leaderboard.

Funnily enough God of War was the first ever game I played when i bought my first ever PlayStation last year at the ripe old age of 43 :) was incredible and bought the follow up Ragnarök immediately after. New one coming out soon as well!

Yes I think we've all been guilty of that DR hunting taking away the enjoyment of racing, seems like it all hit us most when we were closing in on A for the first time, which i think is understandable as you just want to achieve it. I do remember following your rise to A closely and it was exciting!!!

I just want to have a competitive race now and that doesn't matter if it's for P1 mid pack or racing a couple of people the whole round not to finish last, just finding enjoyment in the actual racing as taken a whole bunch of stress off! Obvs more fun to be at the font but happy to be in a fight wherever.

Where are you racing this week Mr B?
Switched from Race A to Race B. Found Race A fun but was constantly being hit on the rear 1/4 causing me to spin & end up going from pole to last.
Set a solid Race B Q time so always in top 3 at start and just by playing nice seems to bring home the bacon.
As for ripe old age of 43 you are just a whipper snapper as I’m heading towards 62 😳🤠

That's great going with such a small window for your consistency. I'm waaaaaay off that  Got a big case of hot lap syndrome.

62 years young my friend :) tbf after years of rugby and boxing my body feels like it's in it's 80's.

Hoping for a banger of a race B next week, assuming race C will be the new hypercars

I think I’m finally past caring for DR updates and happily racing now, although I will draw the line at SR, that’s got to be kept at white after each race 😁 then I’m happy, can’t seem to get any faster on BB raceway though god knows where those 45.5s are found, even chasing a ghost, I did 25 laps last night and it all culminates in that one stupid corner, chuck it in, power on early and miss the wall!!!

Brands has become a proper touring car race though, really tight and only a sec covering the field,

Let’s see what next week brings, I did manage to gold the deep forest reverse TT, what a daily race that would make! And so far I’m a tenth away getting the bronze at Le Mans 😳 good weekend all

Next Week

Race A - Barcelona no chicane - SM
Race B - Tokyo Expressway - South Counterclockwise - RM
Race C - Sardenga Road Track B - RH

I thought they would have put the new cars into race C but can't see that on RH at Sardegna?

I like all 3 tracks so should be a good week and I'm off all next week so hopefully get to race all 3.

I’m going to hold out getting excited until they come, the Tokyo one could be good in gr3 (assume) this is the one which goes underground into the hairpin and also has the hairpin at the docks too, might be a good 5 lap race or even 4

Maybe A is a good one but I’m not overly excited tbh

Maybe they will but in a week or two. Already they can be raced in the weekly challenge races.

I love all variations of Tokyo....rain or shine. Race B & C will take a good chunk of my time next week. Sardegna is a fun track too. As much as I enjoyed Brazil this week, I'll be enjoying the dailies much more than this week.

Hopefully they do it at night again as I really enjoy racing through the streets at night, if I remember rightly it was the Supra that was the META in this one last time. Was my first promotion from D to C :) and back down to D in the same week

Race C next looks like fun, love that track. I think i am done at Interlagos, my QT is just above 2% off the world's fastest time and I am qualifying P13 in DRA rooms, like what the hell.
interesting - Do you always look at it from a % perspective? I'm always seeing where I am on the leaderboard to see if it's a good time but I guess this is dependant on how many aliens come out for the week.

Yeah I figure it's a slightly better measure than your position in the world because the player count hops around so much. One can also tell from the friends list if you're there or thereabouts and I seem to be but man, I think the south americans are animals at Interlagos, they know it backwards. So fast.

The driving style is odd, need to get on the gas before the car is anywhere near straight, almost pre-apex, or you're dead slow.

Home course advantage. Saw the same at Kyoto and the Japanese lads flooded the top of the leaderboard!!!

Didn’t quite work for me at Yas 😂

Ok I think I’ll start doing that as I was beating myself up for being 1500 places away from where I am on a good day

Well I’ve enjoyed my lunch breaks this week, getting a race A and B in, not sure how much I’ll be racing this weekend, probably get the taste of Le Mans going once the race is going Saturday afternoon,

Have a good one guys

Tried a Race A. What could go wrong on a track with 1 braking zone?

Well I'll tell you. Some filthy vermin spun me on the last lap and I finished dead last. They scooted the lobby pronto before I could even finish typing my abuse 😂

I got to grip a little bit with Interlagos finally. Never dared to race it properly, but I shedded some of that fear of losing DR lately, and just want to have fun. The pace is quick this week. I am only 1.8 seconds (~2 %) of the best time, but I encounter these quali times a lot in lower B lobbies. Sometimes even a lot quicker than that.

Twice I managed to bump someone off track in a braking zone, so I waited up.. and on both occasions the victim decided to ram into me at full speed while I was waiting up for them (but wasn't ghosted apparently). Pff temper temper... You see me waiting right, I give you back the position, go try to make something of your race. In the second race that this happened, someone also bumped me off but also waited. So it seems like quite a sportsmanship lobby for a change. This bump had cost me the win, but I still managed a P3 finish from the back.

A lot of people are still starting on mediums, or making weird pitstop decisions such as pitting for hards after 3 laps of mediums. I make a lot of places this way. You can make an alternative strategy work of course, but I see a lot of people making mistakes after they switch to the more slippery tires. In one race someone appeared in front of me on the slower tire in the beginning of lap 14, and he held me back almost 2 full laps. Chapeau! I just couldn't safely get passed him, only for him to make an oversteer mistake at the very last corner that cost him the position (luckily no extra positions).

My best race I started P14 without a quali time. My quali time would've put me on P2 or P3 I believe. The polesitter was 0.5 seconds quicker than me. This was the result:

A victory!!! Very rare for me. And that from the back and in the non-meta car. I obtained some good results by starting on hards and pitting directly after 1 lap. Maybe it's not the fasted strat on paper, but I avoid all the battling and have some track for myself. In this particular race it was the best possible outcome of the week.

After my pitstop I saw I was 33 seconds behind the leader. So that's about 5 or 6 seconds behind them would they make a stop. But they didn't because they started on mediums. This can work of course, but I saw them changing positions in the timing list multiple times. So they were battling it out. I saw the time creep down lap by lap, and everyone that pitted came out behind me.

I was really dialed in, running consistent 33.5 / 33.6 laps for 5 laps, trying to take care of my tires. This is far from being real quick, but I was so happy to see I had consistent pace and felt at ease with the car. Halfway through I thought I heard my son crying in bed, and I was distracted for 1 or 2 laps. This cost me about 1 or 1.5 seconds, and I directly saw the gap to the leaders increase, and the guy behind me come closer. So even a small mistake could cost me the race. But I dialed in again and on aging tires I produced all low 1:34:x laps. Apart from lap 1, no car was within 3 seconds of mine. Needed this boost after a lot of stupid mistakes in the beginning of the week.

So I tried a few Gr.4 cars at Sardegna Track B with RH tyres to get a feel. Oh boy...what a rollercoaster of a lap it will be due to the undulations (ups & downs) in the track's altitude.

Towards end of S1, the whole of S2 & the starting portion of S3 is where the ups & downs of the lap comprise. S2 is such a thrill.

I wish the race would be set around Dusk (the last time option of day for the track) which is not completely dark but not too bright even. The scenery which contains numerous windmills spinning about with bright Red warning lights is a charm by itself.

I'm just going to stick to Race C now next week aiming for 5-10 races per day. Can't wait.... :gtpflag:

Well no daily racing for me this weekend, bit of kids football, haircuts and our award ceremony for the lads footie shortly,

I think I’m planting in race B next week and the gr3 Tokyo, did some circuit experience this morning and fully golded the Tokyo we just had as well as trial mountain and deep forest which I hadn’t done previously, trying to get me 20mil to buy the Merc w196 and the bugger isn’t for sale

Unless race A is something better, I need to fully gold that variation of Tokyo too 😁
