I didn’t know. Why is the use of the H Shifter/clucth combo unavailable?
What it boils down to is, someone whined "they're using a clutch and h-gate and they're faster than me.", with their bottom lip all pooched out, Sony/PD heard/listened and the squeaky wheel got the grease. The marketing wonks called it "equipment parity" and those squeaky wheels rejoiced. At least until they discovered, fast folks be fast no matter what equipment you put in their hands.

I don't recall what that alleged advantage was/is a clutch & h-gate user enjoyed. It's been my experience that nobody is faster with it than they are without it.

I wonder if all this links to a comment Calster made in his track guide for this TT, when he said he released the accelerator when shifting up in this car, because it was very slightly quicker. Video below starts at the relevant comment.

I seem to remember it's because you can go from say, 5th to 1st, directly on an H shifter? No need to wait for 4-3-2, etc.

Not sure about Calster's theory, this is something I'd want to see an A/B test of.

Unfortunately I don't have a shifter anymore, sold it because it was just collecting dust on the rig, but I don't believe you can even do that anymore since the downshift-protection update, someone with a shifter should confirm.

As far as I recall, if the car is equipped with the manual transmission (instead of racing), you could in theory shift it quicker if you have a clutch and the proper H shifter, if you can shift quick enough of course, because the shifting time on the manual is quite slow if using paddles, compared to the racing transmission. That can give you the advantage, probably not much, but in the alien world of thousands, every single one counts.

Yes you can skip shift. Where tap shifts are denied entirely when to early, h-gate shifts are delayed in gear engagement. I skip shift regularly in single player and non sport mode lobbies. Up shifts are not denied or delayed at all. I've skip shifted since GT5 & 6.

Thought I'd better gold this one before it ended. Bit tedious at first but not too bad a combo actually. Obviously the lap is nothing to write home about but mission accomplished.

Tonight was rather uncharacteristically powered by white wine.. despite the unusual fuel something did the trick! I was cautiously optimistic that I could get a .5 this evening but we went one better! And now the tease; try and grind for a PB placing or enjoy the new trial whatever it is tomorrow?! I am agonisingly close to world top 10 again and that carrot is dangling! Praying for another banger tomorrow but surely we are overdue a lemon!?

Forgot to get the screenshot and lap video for Trial Mountain because I had a bit of a rage quit moment.

Ended up with a 2:12.706, but the optimum was showing a .50X.
Simply could not put a whole lap together to get below a .7 which was incredibly frustrating. On my best lap I lost at least a tenth and a half just in Turns 3/4.

The reverse Trial Mountain is just a very odd track to drive on, particularly for time trials where invalidating anywhere in the entire final sector will invalidate the next lap as well. Also the Camry Crown is pretty uninspiring to drive, engine note is forgettable and the rear end is just slightly too loose to be fast, but not loose enough to be fun.

At least that's another top 100 for the year, but felt like I left time on the table.

My girlfriend's family are visiting so that optimal focus and time available ain't exactly there, nor is my normal setup in the living room. Moved the PS5 into the bedroom along with a small 32” spare TV put on a low ass coffee style table in a tight corner, sitting on the edge of the bed. An absolutely godawful setup.

Given the aforementioned situation I can't be too unhappy with this, a .4 was probably on the table but alas, not to be this time around. The combo was fine IMO, the Crown felt quite good and I don't really have any major issues with Trial Mountain either, it's got a better flow in the original direction though.

For some reason, wanted to see if I could better my time at Trial Mountain, even though I'm unsure how I really got it. It became clear, thankfully after not too many laps, that was not going to happen. Perhaps I could've improved more and more, but due to the hella storms last night keeping me from falling asleep until about 2, that wouldn't be ideal. My optimums were about a tenth and a half slower than my best time, even on what felt like one excellent lap...and I was still tenths down so...nah.

So I tried the Alfa...and it has decided it will actually turn tonight! On my ~9th (ish) lap, I dropped three tenths, and then bettered that a good few laps later, so a 2:12.382. That felt nice, at least. Still so many corners I can't seem to get out of as fast as I should, but it's a marked improvement!

Wine is ALWAYS good!, very nice achievement buddy!

I tried again this morning but i seem to not have to calme these last few days to realy focus, real life is getting in the way at the moment so no improvement on my side but..... in all the war going on at the leaderboard...
i'm still placed 30 and 50 worldwide  , it just doesn't feel like that with all of you fast pricks around here!

Yup, hate the track from the bottom of my heart, but hey... I guess it's an opportunity to learn it better and hate it even more :D
Yeah thats a way to find somethng positive indeed
I love the F50 though, if there is one car that absolutely nails the Nordschleife on sports it's the F50... but.... i like to yeeet and squeeek it and that's not the fastest way to do it

Curious where the line between under and oversteer lies, that's a realy key part for a track as Yas Marina if you ask me with them long corners...

But he, it's a slidy roadcar! :lol::lol:

I mean, at least the track limits are horrendous, if you even think about going over a curb or going anywhere near a bollard, you get a red lap :D Haven't tried it yet, just watching Sammy losing it on the stream
i did enter the snakepit myself for a brief moment during work but he clearly wasn't happy with the rear snappyness and the thight chicane indeed  ....,no tripple top 100 then i guess :lol:

What a strict track limits!
I see Formulas and cars are going over whole curbs, here you can only half of it...
It's as soon as your inside wheels go over the line, it's one of the only tracks that does this and it is unbelievably aggressive too. 9only other track where I've seen such strict limits is road Atlanta's massive kerb after the windy section)

I think you might've been hitting the distance board right before Turn 1.

Can't wait to experience the hell these track limits appear to be...

I can't wait to read your reaction!

It's a complete lottery if the car decides to turn into the final turn or not. Some consider it to be.... unnatural.
