Guess I have to add Gr. 3 at sausage fest tracks to this list. Even though I have at least some hope here unlike CGV recently.

Mangusta sub-1000 rank quest is going along on target - had another go at it today, and after taking the time to relearn how to convince this thing to slow down or change direction, pulled a really clean run through the first two chicanes that was enough for a sub 2:06 laptime. That’s despite the rest of the lap going mediocre at best - but as a sub-700 ranking would be a PB by a long shot, I’m happy to leave it as it is.

Have to revisit the Kart TT as well as it taunts me with a 1108th at the moment, but as with this one I feel the gains will be much lower and require some heavier grinding, I’ll wait until it is closer to completion to have a better idea on the exact laptime to hit in case I end up only being able to scrape into the top thousand by hundredths if not less.

And for the Laguna Seca which I have not tried yet - reading what you all have to say about it makes me feel I’ve jumped enough sausages lately between Monza and CGV, so might either skip it in the end, or just go for quick and simple credits to be banked for Silver (famous last words). Will see how I feel later in the week, but might not approach it as competitively.

Friggin Mangusta! I went in for another go this evening but after about 6 laps where the car slid off a different corner each time I had to shut it down because I wanted to throw the console out the window!

I had a similarly terrible time with it tonight. The best I could do was barely within a tenth of my best lap...so not even faster.

I don't have a goddamn clue what everyone else is doing, but that thing was not doing anything useful tonight, besides whatever it felt like doing (you know, going in completely opposite directions than I was steering).

Absolute waste of two hours of my night, and probably pissing my wife off with all my yelling because holy what the **** is this garbage. It literally felt vindictive - any time I'd be on track to maybe beat my lap time, the car would behave totally different at the next turn and absolutely blow the lap. My optimal was near a 2:05 flat, but apparently achieving that on one lap was expressly verboten.

My relationship with the Mangusta started badly as well, but I have to say it grew on me over time. It‘s one of those that keep revealing themselves bit by bit so you‘re always feeling a little progress. Well that‘s how I felt at least.

Serious tip for those on wheels that allow some customizations: I had hit a brick wall around 2:05 flat. When I tried the Kart for the first time I adjusted the steering angle from AUTO to 720 degrees just so that I could have a minimum of control. Then when I went back to Monza I forgot to switch it back, and obviously for the Mangusta the effect is the opposite allowing for more turn-in with fewer inputs, which surprisingly helped greatly navigating the chicanes.

Sitting at 2:04.502 now which felt completely unrealistic when I first started.

Will probably largely ignore both the Kart and the Porsche although both seem fun, but we have a lot going on around the house currently.

So what does lowering the steering angle do? I've bumped my sensitivity back to 10 and torque down to 1, just to be able to try and manhandle that thing as best as I can. I believe I can adjust this in G Hub on my 923.

Oddly, my experience with it started off quite well...but last night really soured it.
 
It maps the real steering angle of the vehicle to what you have to do on the wheel. When set to AUTO, it typically maps 1:1, i.e. if you turn the wheel 90° you see the virtual wheel being turned 90° as well. For the Mangusta AUTO probably is equivalent to 2160°. So if you manually set it to 720, every degree you turn the wheel results in three degrees on the vehicle's wheel. So you can change direction more quickly and with fewer inputs. For the Kart AUTO is probably just 180°, so 720 has the opposite effect, allowing for more fine-grained control. Hope this makes sense.

Edit: this is how it's implemented in Fanatec wheels, don't know how it works on the G923

That said, a few other issues I have are preventing further improvement:

1) In this first chicane, I regularly do not get enough rotation to go left without the car trying to randomly veer right, off the track. Sometimes, it'll also just...keep going right instead of left. I'm slowing down roughly at the end of the entry road on the left, which usually seems to be a good spot.

2) In general, it really just tries to go off the track in a direction opposite to how my tires are turned, like it has a mind of its own

3) The parabolica is really, really difficult to get the braking point/entry/turn-in right on. I'm braking at the 150 board, but it seems most consistent to brake just before it, but this is slower. I'll go down to 2nd gear to get more rotation - a gamble on if it is too much and just starts to slide or not - and then up to 3rd to start accelerating. The #1 ghost seems to brake just a tiny bit later, stay out wider and magically turns in just fine.

Do you use a custom livery by chance? I ask because I had that issue myself, it pops up from time to time, Tokyo was another recent example. Here's what's presumably happening: when the rims on the car are too wide, the front wheels will get stuck in the archs and won't turn when under load, i.e. when braking. You can tell if you have that issue when your steering wheel (the on-screen one) gets stuck as well, then suddenly janks into a new position when the load is gone. I selected a rental one and the problem was gone.

I am very aware of the possibility of placebo effect for all kinds of settings, but this is 100% a real issue.

Even if the wheels aren't stuck, it is still likely that the root cause is too much load on the front axle when you try to turn left. So just try to go off the brake a bit earlier and see if it makes a difference

That makes sense, especially since the suspension on this car appears to be made of various flavors of Jell-O.

Some laps I can get it turned in real well, and that's probably why.

Now, as to leaving corners and having it run entirely in an opposite direction of turning...probably just need to wait that little bit longer on rotation, as it seems Its Jigglyness lifts all weight off the front the second you even breathe on the throttle coming out of a corner, and not only does it just go straight, it goes the other direction.

It doesn't work with the g923 on GT7. You can certainly adjust degrees of rotation via G hub on pc but it doesn't transfer across to ps5. That's the sole reason I got rid of the Logitech and got the GT DD Pro. The g923 is a fine wheel otherwise.

I use 360° in the Mangusta btw.

Edit. It hasn't really made me any faster overall I just prefer not having to turn the wheel much

I have the Logitech G-Pro wheel and pedal, you can go into G-Hub and set the steering angles, per profile. Then....in GT7 it has only changed the 'lock to lock' rotation. At least with my rudimentary testing. It does not change the ratio. What GT does, is it takes over the wheel and sets the rotation angle set for the car you are in, and this changes per car.
Here is a short, showing it happening while I was testing the RB x2019. This profile was set to 270 degrees for testing, once you start the TT/race it changes to the car specification angle, then when paused, it defaults it back to 1080. I have not figured out a work around, if one exists.



@crome As for the livery, oh yes, that is true and the Mangusta will do exactly what you describe.

These last weeks are busy in terms of Time Trials.

Now I concluded 3 last ones:

Mangusta in Monza - It`s tricky to get used to the handling of this car because it`s simillar to an old Porsche: you must control the sliding applying some throttle while cornering, and the brakes are week and not progressive. The 2nd chicane was the hardest part for me to do it clean, becasue if you break in 200 meters, the you must break 100% hard almost in the internal kerb, and when release to keep the traill breaking, it`s late. If you break just before 200, but not in the right spot, your lose the perfect apex. I have a tuned version of this car and it was one of the hardest to balance, because the standard car it`s already tricky

Kart in Eiger - I hate because isn`t natural for me to drive karts after thousand of hours driving cars with suspension. The most dificult part is get used to the lack of grip during a high speed corner as turn 0 and U turn before the hill climb. I needed to turn on the countersteerin assist to get this gold. With VR, it`s a great experience, so intense that even I already used to drive several hours with VR, after stop the TT I was a bit nauseous.

992 GT3 in Laguna Seca - Finally, after some difficult and not so fun TT, I enjoyed this combo becuase it`s perfect. This car with RS tyres is one of the best from GT7. Racing with VR in this track and car it`s one of the best too, and easy to find the apex in the curves with those big sausages. I`ll not spend more time with that because the alliens are here, and I think I got a good result from my lack of enough time to improve time.







 
@half_sourly one question but if it will take you more than 5 minutes of clicking then ignore my question.. How many people managed to get Alien status ? So all TTs together, first 100 positions, Unique PSN. (those who Placed top 100 more than once, should just count as 1 Alien :) ) ( wild guess 2500 people? am I near?) wonder what other people would guess?

Finally conquered the sausage fest. Was stuck at 22.0 for a long time. Unless a sausage (usually) invalidated my lap I was consistently doing 22.0 to 22.4. Anything better seemed impossible. After easily 500 km altogether (a ton for me) it finally started to click. Especially the fast left dipper after the bridge. I always understeered off if I tried to match the ghost. I don't even know what I changed but at some point I only lost a bit of time rather than a ton when making it through.

One lap everything came together and I'm finally into gold. The aliens are fighting hard but improvements seem to be in the hundredths by now. Guess I'm safe.
