I managed to sneak into the gold zone (not for long of course lol) in a brief run this morning in the new TT so that's a good sign. I'm stuck just outside SILVER at Le Mans still! My dislike for that track continues to grow. Those friggin long, boring stretches lull me to sleep and I forget to brake for the stupid chicanes! I will not take a bronze so I need to somehow find the time over this coming very busy weekend to get the silver locked down!

I had a go in the Toyota yesterday. It drives quite smooth over the curbs, especialy in the Ford chicanes.

But it understeers quite a lot. The faster you go, the more understeer. Which is a big problem in LeMans.

I'm sure there's a line/driving style that could handle this, but it would take me too much time in this TT to figure it out.
So back to the Porsche.
I too tried the Toyota, as well as the Ferrari, looking mainly to see if the 4wd would help. It really feels like the 4wd is disabled at times with random oversteer (for me anyways, I do have a heavy throttle foot sometimes). The understeer though is very prominent in both of them. The Ferrari does sound cool though, makes it fun to drive.

I check out the time trials this morning: take the provided car, load the current #1 time ghost, start the lap. First thing I notice, ghost goes all four tires over the white line to the left before corner #1. The Spa overtake challenge the other week did that too, you could blow Eau Rouge and still count as success.

It is only a difference in degree between this and wall-riding. I say meh.

1:32.5x.

The real personal achievement is not having 507,021,003 invalidated laps, and not wanting to get out of my car and quietly frown-stare at the track marshals for an hour.

The Ford is nice, but more sluggish on turn-in than I remember. Especially at the end of the braking phase. BoP says that PD only adjusted weight and power, but something feels off with the car to me.

Is that what you're talking about?

Putting the moral aspect aside, this no-penalty rule has always existed. As long as there's a white line with a kerb beyond it, you can have all four wheels on the kerb without getting a penalty. However, as soon as all four wheels go beyond the kerb (meaning they're no longer on it), you'll get a penalty.

I do have a heavy throttle foot sometimes
This is why I have to drive with CSA on strong for basically anything. Even with the upgrade to the linear pot, which helped, I'm still a bit caveman like with it.

Turning TC off yesterday definitely helped me shave that time off, but there are a few spots it'll absolutely bite you - like Corvette. Already can barely hit that corner right because I almost always turn too late, or think I turn too early, when I actually am not, because you can't see it until you're over it.

For the Mulsanne chicanes...do we have an exact answer of what the track limits actually are? They seem to be whatever will invalidate me on a good lap, and then on a ****** lap that is A-OK.

With seasonal menu credits grind done, had an hour or so in the evening today, so opted to spend it by listening to @NAXEHT 's earlier encouragement and tackled Le Mans.

And it went.. better than expected? The missing two tenths are more than findable over a full lap to get into the gold split - simply being a tad more patient out of the 2nd Mulsanne chicane will easily cut like 3-4 tenths out of that 3:27.4 - but that hunt will have to wait until my next session.

I have a decent amount of past experience of La Sarthe - took part in a team 24h race there in rF2 a couple of years ago - so I guess I have an okay base knowledge of the track, and finding the laptime is mostly matter of getting a good feel for the horrendeous cuts track limits.

The RBR-Ford one will wait for a bit, seems like I will not have much opportunity for any laps in the coming days, so whenver I can start the PS5 up I will probably prioritize golding Le Mans.

(and next week I am actually going to the Austrian GP itself - so I guess I can say I need to take a track walk first  )

Fun little combo, I might try again later in the week without aids (CSA on strong for my run). I didn't really lose time to an obvious error, just slightly passive in some parts with the throttle, especially at the beginning of the final sector, but nailed the final 2 tricky right's to reach my goal!!

Calster always sets a very respectable benchmark (thanks for your ghost lap sir) and seems to be an extremely fast Red Bull Ringer!

I'm not sure why, but it always seems I do well on days where I've mowed the lawn. Bonus good if I've done that + had 2-4 beers at some point in the afternoon/evening.

I wonder if it's because my legs are tired (my back yard has a dip that runs crosswise across the middle, so you're always going uphill for half of it no matter which direction you're mowing) and thus it unintentionally makes me let off the brake better because they really don't want to keep pushing it down? Who knows!

The first session I restarted several times before exiting entirely because as @Manimal had mentioned, something was just...wrong with the car. It legitimately could not turn right after the esses before Tertre Rouge - like, it would run wide every single time. So exited all the way out of the TT and went back in and...totally different machine. We seemed to be gellin' like felons today, and I got myself first, down to a mid 3:25, and then down into the 3:24s with a 3:24.917. My optimum was a .7 but eventually down to a .424, so there was still more time it seems.

Of course I finally get a feel for the car (well, most laps, sometimes it still just obnoxiously understeers and ruins a potential good one - especially in the Porsche curves and Corvette) on the last night I'm able to have a go at it. Post-midnight I'll be doing all the weekly challenges, but I'm happy to shave almost two seconds off where I was before a couple days ago! Puts me at 503rd right now, so probably safe to be under 1000th place by the time it ends next week - will be a better placing than that...other Porsche.

Hey folks, after couple of missed TTs I did a relatively quick banker session last night, it felt good, a nice car to drive, very tricky to nail the Rauch turn (6), other than that, not bad at all :)

For sure 31.5 is doable if I go back and try again, but lately I never do, don't know why :D

One night I was doing daily races and having a few drinks, and after the first I got faster, so as far as my own testing goes it's scientifically proven... Sometimes. But hey, if it worked at Le Mans in the 50s it can work on pretend Le Mans now, right?

Over the last few nights, I have been lapping several of the Hypercars, trying to Gold the Le Mans TT. I am pretty terrible with high-downforce cars, but the combo is one of my favorites, so I wanted to try. The first session was with the BMW M Hybrid that I had been driving a lot since the update dropped. I personally think the BMW is the most stable but is lacking a bit of speed. It took lots of work to get the 3:30.6xx best lap. Next, I tried the oldest Hypercar, the Toyota GR010. The Toyota was quite a bit faster over the session in comparison to the BMW. Occasionally there was understeer, particularly entering the Porsche Curves, but I actually found that it suits my driving style really well; resulting in a best lap of 3:28.6xx. My last session was with the Porsche 963, a last gasp effort for Gold. The Porsche was certainly the most edgy of the 3, and once you go over that edge, it takes a good few corners to get the tires back. I did find another couple of tenths over the Toyota, but I am just not consistent or trusting enough to pull a Gold time out and I genuinely don't think that I can find the requisite ~1.6secs for that Gold.
