Got a unit from a friend for testing so I could see whether the investment was worth it or not and... boy, I cannot play Gran Turismo 7 on a flat screen again, it's so weird and jarring.

One of the things that has surprised me about the experience is how my perception of certain tracks is changing. I always hated Autopolis with a passion, a bland and uninspiring string of corners leading nowhere. But with VR? I can be more precise and feel it flowing better. It isn't a track I would say I am good at or even enjoy as so many others, but I don't find it the waste of disk space I once did.

Racing some events from the DLC on Fuji earlier, I've noticed how easy it is to nail the last few corners when you have actual depth perception to judge where to break, turn and position the car to fit everything together nicely.

For me, this is the only negative from using VR.

I simply cannot play with a screen anymore. Not that i want too all the time but every now and then i just decide to have a go and play on my screen.

It usually lasts about half a lap before i'm in the grass or gravel and my session ends as i reach for my VR headset.

Welcome.

We are your people.

This is your church.

Well I’m going to buck the trend here and say I just went back to flat screen the other day. I dunno since the Spec 3 swear i couldn't drive anywhere quick enough on hard tyres, or is it just the new rubber squealing putting me off.

I had a 1.38.6 in VR on fuji this week, i haven't raced flat screen in nearly a year and within an hour i had a 1.38.4 and i know there is more time there, also feeling fresh and an hour is easy on flat screen, an hour or 2 in VR is a work out :D

Also something i find myself doing in VR is turning in too late, also being stuck in mid pack and battling with groups i find it hard to be fast and give space, so i usually end up losing time by trying to give other space as its hard to know where others are.

So yea i'm going to use a mixture of both VR and flat screen going forward.
I actually think using both can help in terms of lap times.

As a full on, fully assimilated VR2 convert here, I'm gonna say you answered your issue with your second statement.

I seem to recall somewhere in the settings of GT7, you can tune the level of tire squeal for both you and your opponents. I just don't recall exactly where that setting was/is. I've set and forgot about it, obviously.

I was like this initially, but now I only use my wheel + VR if I’m fancying a “proper” drive. For the weekly challenges, as an example, they’re my kick-back and relax with a controller time.

Side-note, nice to see a scouser. Plastic scouser here. lol.

Completely impossible to play flat here. Would have bought pmr on release..just to try..but there’s no point. I go half a lap flat and its…..nope!

Loving the ffb on the dd+ with VR post patch too. So much more visceral. Finally feels dang close to what it should!

Late last night I needed to fit in quickly my daily workout right before bedtime.

I was really tired and I really didn't want nor needed to use the VR or even the sim rig, I just needed to do exactly 26.3 miles quickly no frills.

So I picked up the controller, and sat in front of the TV, just trying quickly to finish that chore before bed.

A Mindless quicky if you want to describe it that way lol.

So I Did the weekly challenges because those are easy and one can get two birds with one stone without trying to much.

I did twice the K car on Tokyo, best I could do waS 2nd, I don't care, I just needed the prizes and complete the challenge, I got first a long time ago.

Then for my last stint before bed, I decided to do the rally bit on Barcelona.

Contrarily to some, I actually "enjoy" doing the Rally in GT, ever since Tahiti on GT2 (with a controller with O and Square button and manual shift with L1 R2). (Am old school)
This weekly challenges rally shouldn't be too hard, since
I already got first on this Barcelona track before.

Or so I thought

With the controller, It was all over the place as if I am Scooby-Doo on ice ! I couldn't getting better than 7 out of 12 on the 8 short laps, I ended the race dead last before bedtime.

Although I got my a daily workout but I didn't get any prize for the rally using The controller... It was frustrating and seems "impossible".... I think mainly because I was really tired, sleepy and "drunk?" !

As I turned off the PS5 And the TV, I was thinking:
Have I gotten accustomed to VR so much now that I can't even play the way I used to with the controller decades earlier??!

Maybe it's my fleeing youth, but I thought I still had my hands with the controller with rallying

I believe I have always been good with Rally in GT, and I especially enjoy it in VR!

But Last night showed me that rally with a controller 🎮 was just drunken session of frustration and cursing..
Now I think I understand why some people hate rally in GT so much, it's because they are trying to complete it with a controller.... It's just seems so unnatural, now that I experience Rally in VR for 2 years, I didn't really ever go back to rally with the controller until last night.

I thought I could just pick up and go, as if I have Always have done it since 1998 ...

But the truth for me is:
It is so much more easy and more enjoyable doing the rally in VR And the sim rig wheel setup...
That was my only good positive thought as I went off And snooze to dream land.

Sorry for the long post again:
The point I was really trying to make was:

Rallying any other way is just compromised... You can still do it with a controller and tv, but man this is like unnecessary torture...

Although I am a VR2 convert, just like @XsApollo
I don't want the flat screen experience to die off completely...
I still need the higher resolution and the eye candy experience on the TV for
  • Photography, photo mode
  • Quick mindless gaming, especially if I just want to admire the car,, driving in 3rd person rear car view mode with the controller, etc....
  • I usually remove the VR2 headset immediately after the race and do all my choices and home navigation on the TV...

But for serious drive and race, immersive experience: VR and sim !

I rarely post and come around the forums every so often. Just got done doing some laps in Yas Marina.

Am I in the minority who enjoys watching replays in VR mode and wish they would expand upon it? Like adding in a spectate mode in races or in the Paddock at least, to where you can view live races in those fixed camera spots around the track, or even add spots to view the race from the grand stands.

Speaking of the Paddock, I hope they add more tracks to that as well.

Probably. We’re a scarce few. ;)

DUDE!
First race after the update. Best glitch ever. Forgive the shaking, but I was just trying something since I notice when I watch cars pass, the next view is like spinning me around. Looking left to right, the next rendering projects to my right each time. So, I decided to look left before my car(green GT4 Supra) passed. The render would then focus in front of me. As can be seen, I look left and it’s rendering in front when I return facing forward.
I do this a few times. Then, the camera sends me to T1 and the glitch happens. I’m thinking what in the what? I haven’t “BAMFED” like Nightcrawler, to the next camera position! Hesitant to move at first, as I don’t know what I did. Start moving my head to see if I’ll get moved to another part of the circuit. Nothing.

Watch the AMG pass to see if that rights the replay. Nothing. More cars pass. Nothing. The rest was heaven to me.

Hope it’s not a one time glitch, as I’ll try again tomorrow. Would be nice if that’s opened the door to a possible future viewing option.

I tried my normal parking on the side and switch cameras in replay to ”spectate”. In VR, we don’t have control of our positioning, but the use of 360 degree viewing is great. Obviously, the viewing with the headset isn’t as crisp, but objects are closer that what the video shows. So, I can see the cars in the distance much better.

Trialled a couple spots, but couldn’t get a camera to get me a view of the seals and the circuit action. Settled on T1.

Still wishing for a static VR replay.
Hey, sometimes it’s early.

Tried spectating at Yas Marina with Gr.4 cars. Sat at a cut, off track, after the final corner. Watched the VR replay. The plane passing overhead was cool. All the sounds were awesome as usual. 8am, placed in the shadow of the pit building, made me feel like I was at the real circuit. Gonna be good fun!

Nope, I too would LOVE if VR Replay meant being in the literal grandstand and watching the cars fly by :)

It's just too bad that I would thinking it would be a ton of work for PD to implement properly and VR users keep getting the shaft every update the goes by without an updated HUD :indiff:

I really like the VR replay as well. One easy add IMO would be a button press to pause the camera location cycling in place so you could just sit at that one spot

As I’m usually sitting in my rig standing to look around is a bit of a pain, but what if turning the wheel could change the viewing angle?
