Is this the same for you guys or can you easily switch between VR and screen?
Nope. Flat is simply not enjoyable anymore.
The only time I switch to flat and don't drive in VR is if one of the weekly challenges is on an oval/banked track (which I don't like in VR...) and I need it for the weekly bonus...

It's gonna be interesting how this will play out, now that Sony seems to be abandoning its VR plans for the future, if gt8 is going to support VR (in whichever way...) and if not, where all of us used to be racing in VR will land as our new racing home...
But, it's tea leaf reading at this point, so let's wait a few years and see ;)

Yep. Same boat, with can’t go back. So much that i’ve moved the ps5 off of the 73” lg g3 and have it parked on a 65” 10yr old samsung in the bedroom.

I kinda get the feeling that this may be my last playstation, and returning to building a pc is next.

I could get really PO'd if the next GT doesn't support VR2

Yes, I'm stuck unable to stay on the track without VR :D

Hi guys and big thanks for all your replies!
Very interesting to read all your different answers!

And to add to some of you, there's no going back to flatscreen to me as well. I don't want to think about a GT8 without VR support!😲

I’m really struggling with stick shift cars… couldn’t do the weekly at Willow Springs in my 911. I don’t think it was the inclines but something about using the flappy paddles but my arms moving the gear stick really set me off 🤢

Had to stop - not attempted it in flat mode yet. Not actually played GT in flat screen since PSVR2 arrived

You’ll get used to not constantly looking around and focusing ahead, it doesn’t bother me be a friend told me don’t look at your feet or follow your hand just let that stuff happen in your peripheral vision.

They may be using one of the newer versions of PSSR and didn't put it in the patch notes. I know from chat on other games there's a NDA about devs saying which exact one they're using, but it has been updated several times since it was added to GT7 last year.

It usually is placebo, though

Even with no hardware upgrade to PSVR2 I think the future of the VR will be great with the PS6 and an updated GT7 and future GT releases. Reading about the projected/leaked architecture for PS6 it can allow for 4k 120fps (which the PSVR2 can display natively) with realtime path ray tracing via AI.
PS5 Pro hints at what the VR2 can display, it struggles though with the tearing etc, mixed resolution, and various frame rates.
My expectation is that the PSVR2 will plug straight in and work with the PS6 and all backwards compatability with GT7. I realise this is over a year away, but its important to look forward, and tell Sony/PD what you wish for. I'm not against a PSVR2 Pro either.

I haven’t said anything in a while, but I am really enjoying VR especially with the PS5 Pro. It’s so good… the sensation of being in the car and at the actual track literally brings joy to my soul. Even with its faults the level of fun it delivers makes me forget about them. We can only go up from here.. hopefully we get something to make this even better! Yes GT7 isn’t perfect but for me it’s the only game that completely fulfills my automotive hunger!

Automotive Hunger Games
That's a franchise waiting to be made.
Well yea maybe in your opinion… however there are not to many games in which you can drive the difference cars GT7 offers.. I have many friends who share the same passion as I do. I am in many different leagues and we drive everything. From spec Miata, GR 86 cup, 2 hour endurance racing, Super formula etc.

We’ve gotten together build old Honda FF and attacked Tsukuba circuit.. I mean with a good bunch of people to race with you can really have some serious fun with GT7, and one main reason is because of all the different types of cars you can enjoy(In VR!) Is it perfect obviously not but no game is but for what it does have it delivers for me big time.

Just drove an hour on The Nordschleife (is the MI SU7 banner new?) and haven’t noticed any difference in sharpness.

Vision looked clear before the update, but now I think it’s even closer to flatscreen. It’s just so crisp now. I still have the tearing from PSSR, but not ridiculously. Can’t be placebo effect.
That’ll be from the new reprojection method.

PSSR doesn’t work with VR yet, last update from Cerny was that they’re looking into it. I don’t see Sony looking into it too hard given the lack of PSVR support.

Looking for news about the PSVR2 it comes up that the Sony VR controllers are now supported by the Apple vission Pro headset. Quite interesting. But better news is that Sony are releasing 4 new PSVR2 games this year which shows some support for the PS5 maybe ongoing.

Yes… but still no serious vr racing games. Project Motor Racing is the last hope to be honest…

GT7 PSVR2 Visuals: Big Improvements with Simple Tweaks (Including HDR Calibration)

Just wanted to share the setup that significantly improved the PSVR2 experience for me in GT7 — both visually and in overall immersion. If your VR image looks too bright, cartoonish, or blurry, these changes made a real difference:

🛠 Setup
• PS5 Pro
• PSVR2 headset
• Playseat Trophy rig
• TV in front of rig with Tracking Support enabled
• Infrared lamp placed behind/above for reliable low-light tracking

🔧 Settings That Helped

✅ TV Picture Mode: Switched from Dynamic to Filmmaker Mode
→ More natural contrast and color, no artificial sharpness.

✅ GT7 Display Settings:
• Exposure: –0.2 EV → best balance of cockpit visibility and natural lighting
• Saturation: 85 → vivid, but not oversaturated

✅ PS5 Video Settings:
• HDR: On When Supported
• Resolution / RGB Range / 4K Transfer: All on Automatic

🔍 HDR Calibration (Important for PSVR2 Too)

Even though PSVR2 has its own display, HDR calibration on the PS5 still affects VR visuals — especially for contrast, sky brightness, and shadow detail.

Steps:
1. Go to: Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Adjust HDR
2. Use the PSVR2 headset, not your TV, for the calibration
3. For each screen, adjust until the logo is just barely visible
4. This ensures accurate HDR tone mapping for the OLED headset

🎯 PSVR2-Specific Tips
• Perform eye-tracking and tracking calibration regularly
• Keep Tracking Support enabled on the TV
• Use an infrared lamp for consistent tracking in a dark room

✅ Result
• Cleaner, more immersive image
• Realistic lighting transitions
• Better cockpit contrast
• Rock-solid headset tracking

Highly recommend trying these tweaks — it made GT7 in VR look and feel dramatically better. Let me know if you want help replicating it.

Pretty sure this is all placebo with the exception of the in game exposure adjustment.

EDIT: just read up on it and I’m partly wrong. The HDR calibration does indeed affect the VR output. Interesting.

Very important to do the HDR calibration with the psvr2 headset on and not on the tv….

Imagine driving on Route X. Rounding the first banking and slow down to the infield exit. Drive through the tunnel and exit on the service road to the hangar. “Exit vehicle”. “X”. Drop down box for plane choices. Switch to each plane to see the stats as the bonk bonk bonk sound as you back out of each prompt. Bonk again to select the Air America passenger jet. Select destination to Blue Moon Bay. Bonk. Check flaps. Power up. Off you go.

It’s about two weeks since I lost my VRginity now.
I’ve never tried it before, but I have always been curious about it. So it was kind of a leap when I bought a PS5 Pro and a VR2 at the same time.

GT7 with PSVR2, verdict:
OMG. I can never go back. It is so amazing!

I took it easy and only played very short sessions, started with like 10 minutes a day and felt a bit odd. However it felt better for every session, played a little longer each time. After a week I didn’t feel any nausea at all.
And it feels effing amazing to just take ANY car on ANY track and just drive. It feels so much more fun, I don’t even take too much attention to what the rewards are, the drive itself feels rewarding enough.

I discover stuff at the tracks I never noticed before, I discover details in the cockpit I never saw before, I am more aware of my surroundings, I can actually use my rear view mirrors and look to the side through the windows with ease, hitting apex of the curve and feeling the width of the car and track is way easier, everything just feels better. I managed to gold a TT the other day and i honestly don’t think i would be faster without the headset.

All of this would be good as it is, but the most awesome thing for me is the VR Showroom. I LOVE it. I can spend so much time just inspecting every car, inside and out, and the sense of detail is (of course) just incredible, and this alone is giving me my moneys worth. It is a shame that the showroom is not available for flat screen users, given the incredible details and the insane amount of work PD has put in modeling these cars. Where else can I inspect a Porsche 917, a Unimog and a McLaren F1 in detail?

The only bad thing is that the picture is a bit grainy compared to my TV.
And that I frequently drive off-track because I am too busy checking out cool stuff I never noticed before.

This part does take some getting used to. The screen door effect is always present (among other visual issues), but you do tend to get used to it after a while, and forget it's there. Still, I long for a clearer image.

Now, I don't have an Xbox Series (my last Microsoft product was the Xbox 360), but I wonder if the new Quest 3 headset option has a clearer image (different lenses?). Anyone have any experience with that?

It's a literal game-changer, by definition. I feel bad for the people who went all in on triple screens. But it's so much fun, certainly can't go back, ACE could be a blast as well.

It gets better as you adjust and a non issue but it will the little things that annoy you….pop in becomes a lot more noticeable the quicker and more comfortable you get.

Then you get the really really annoying things, take this weeks daily C at Suzuka, absolutely amazing in VR until you exit the Casio triangle heading down to the finish line…and the the barrier on the right drops down and moves a fair bit.

I can’t tell if it’s a texture issue or it’s loading different geometry/meshes, but it’s jarring especially as you want to hug that barrier on a fast/QT lap
