GT7 & PSVR2

So I just got PSVR2 a few days ago. My setup: PS PRO + G923 + H-shifter/clutch + next level racing wheel stand 2.0.
I had been playing on my 42 OLED C5 (4k/HDR/120Hz). My first impressions:

The bad:
  • OLED has ruined all other screens for me. For other OLED users, the PSVR2 cannot match the contrast ratio nor the overall richness of the image
  • ...............
PSVR2 does have OLEDS but my QLED 55" HDR TV has way more overall brightness and contrast and better HDR than what I see in PSVR2. I always crank the brightness on the PSVR2 and then use temporary exposure settings in GT7 to brighten it up even more.

Often, one needs to re-set the play area which is a minor annoyance
It may be that you just need to wait a few more seconds to allow the system to recalibrate. I was being too impatient and ended up resetting unnecessarily.

As said above, give it a little more time when switching it on (before you take the pad and proceed), it can help. Also it depends how well the room is lit.
  • THE IMMERSION! despite the degraded image quality (coming from 4k/HRD/OLED) nothing can beat the feeling of actually being in the car. I think it took me couple of days to settle in and then it really hits you. The scale of the track and especially when over taking (or being over taken) just brings a smile to my face
Clearly VR's biggest benefit for me !
The real test for me would be to play for a month or so on VR and switch back to the flat screen.
There's no coming back, if you already feel this way after 3-4 days, in a month it will be non negociable.
I think there should be a disclaimer on al PSVR2 GT7 footage that it's not actually what you see in the headset.
One issue is that the footage we see online (content creators and so on) is indeed captured in VR but is what's displayed on the TV screen so it does not give a real perception of resolution you get in the headset. Some creators are really transparent on that aspect, others, less. And the headset has been out for a long time now, so many won't remind us each time when doing VR content.

Perfectly agree with your first feelings... and I think that indeed you will not go back. In any case, that’s my experience.

I will recall two things said before:

- The Globular Cluster CMP 2 accessory is essential for me to maintain the sweet spot with each use (and contributes to comfort).

- a small IR light accessory is of great help if your installation is disrupted by your lighting conditions. It was my case and since then, no more problem.

From now on, the use of VR has become very natural for me (setup, comfort, sensations...)

I agree with most of the points. One big benefit of PSVR2 is also the ony-the-fly switching between headset and screen. Wearing the headset a long time is exhausting. It's very welcome, that it's uncomplicated to take it off between races and use the screen during that time.

I also can't go back. Looking around in the car is so intuitive, that a single screen seems restrictive afterwards. I hope VR is supported by future GT's. I'm a little bit afraid that Sony could cancel it in the future, because it was not such a big success. There are no attractive titles beside GT7 for me, it's the only PS5 game where I use it.
