So I just got PSVR2 a few days ago. My setup: PS PRO + G923 + H-shifter/clutch + next level racing wheel stand 2.0.
I had been playing on my 42 OLED C5 (4k/HDR/120Hz). My first impressions:
The bad:
- OLED has ruined all other screens for me. For other OLED users, the PSVR2 cannot match the contrast ratio nor the overall richness of the image
- The resolution is a downgrade from 4K, although it's not as noticeable as the contrast ratio
- The lenses are very "sensitive", in that they must align perfectly with your eyes otherwise the image is quite blurry
- The image is only sharp in the center, looking off center reveals chromatic aberration and blurriness
- Often, one needs to re-set the play area which is a minor annoyance
The good:
- The frame rate is awesome! The headset is very responsive
- THE IMMERSION! despite the degraded image quality (coming from 4k/HRD/OLED) nothing can beat the feeling of actually being in the car. I think it took me couple of days to settle in and then it really hits you. The scale of the track and especially when over taking (or being over taken) just brings a smile to my face
- I feel I can control the car better, I am able to catch slides and hit the apex (apexes? apexi?) better as well
The real test for me would be to play for a month or so on VR and switch back to the flat screen. I mean just after 3-4 days, the screen just feels so... limited and small, and strangely disconnected.
So I would say just temper your expectations with the image quality but do expect a very immersive experience. I think there should be a disclaimer on al PSVR2 GT7 footage that it's not actually what you see in the headset. I think my expectations were set a bit high, probably my own fault for not doing enough research.
All in all, a great way (the only way?) to experience GT7!
/edit - please do let me know of settings to be changed. I have GT7 settings to 120Hz output, prioritize ray tracing & reprojection on.
