I feel San Andreas will have the best storyline out of all GTA games by a long shot.

Did'nt one of the reviews(cant remeber which one?) talk about SA having one of the deepest storylines, even though GTA'S storylines have always been quite good.

I'm looking forward to it, too, but you know what I mean, don't you? The extreme gold and bling everywhere, leapord skin interior, stupid colours, etc. I'm looking forward to Lowridin' (the lowness of the vehicles), the classic car factor and Hydraulics mostly. That's what I like most about Lowriders.
Yeah, I get what you mean, I love the lowriders and I don't mind all the bling stuff, good for some fun.

Still, I think you raise a good point, slackbladder. You are right on the ball, and I feel some sympathy will be felt for him, as opposed to Vice City and GTA 3 where the lead characters were ruthless criminals. Also, the fact that CJ has a "family", and a family-orientated background is a bit of a change. A good change at that. It allows you to get to know the character alot better than the previous GTAs.
Yeah definatly, the fact that his mother has been killed gives you feelings for the character straight away (not in THAT way).

I also agree about the storyline, it will be by far the most involved story and also the longest. I think it will really draw you in.
Elbow (how do you like it )

Yeah, I think that was IGN, I (even though I haven't played the game) fully agree with that statement.

What was so good about Tommy Vercetti, he was italian, he said a few cheesy lines...what makes that character so good?

I liked him because for one he was certainly more of a character than Fido who wasn't really a character at all. Tommy had attitude and he came across as a badass psycho, which is cool.

But his personality was pretty damn flat and no offence to Ray Liotta but I think it was acted pretty badly.

I mean, how many other games have people played where the central character is black? I can think of "Shadowman", "Blade" (though it does'nt really count as it is based on a film), "Def Jam", err......someone help me?
When I heard the lead character was going to be black, Mike LeRoi from Shadowman was the only other black lead character from a game I've played that I could think of.

Besides, the lead character could be purple for all I care.

We know Famine would like that, or would he be fussy that it's not indigo?

There's a limit to what you can do with video game characters I suppose. It's only in cut scenes that you can do much with his personality. For a game based around the mob Rockstar were going to end up with an Italian-American wiseguy with attitude. What else could they do?

I doubt very much if CJ is going to be much more interesting either. An Afro-American wiseguy with attitude?

KM.

I think they'll do a fair bit better, if not because of his background etc. just with the depth of the game there'd have to be more involvement in his personality.

The best thing about Tommy Vercetti was Ray Liotta. It gave the character a certain credibility, a little less 2 dimensional. And though it's true that the dialogue and timing was a bit off, the recent GTA games still have some of the best voice work in games at the moment. I'm very interested to see how much of an effect the voice talent in San Andreas has.

Well, games don't have to reflect the complex cultural world we live in, so I guess game developers rarely consider the racial demographic of their consumers. R* didn't have to have a black character, but the fact they did is a positive thing. I don't think it will have any effect on sales mind.

But, hey, it's only a game, right!?

ONLY a game!

I think R* making a black character the lead is a very important thing, not only in the gaming world but in aspects of people racial views etc. I think it can only be positive.

I agree. I thought he did a great job doing his voice. The voice acting is certainly better than most games out there.

One of my favourite games ever is Deus Ex. A truly fantastic game with a great plot and great ideas. But with atrocious voice acting.

I agree. It also connects with the Popular scene at the moment. It will = more sales in my opinion. If they done another Mob-guy, I think GTA would have started to fade out. They knew they needed something different, and I think they hit the spot.

I agree with that, too. I like Ray Liotta, especially in movies such as GoodFellas. He was definately a triple positive for Tommy Vercetti, and I believe that is the prime reason why he is liked so much. But, I always look past the voice casting, and look at the character as a person. I just didn't think he had much depth, and got quite repetitive.

CJ won't be dull, like Tommy. I believe at times he will be repetitive, sure, but not dull in my opinion. They have vastly improved the number of comments he makes, and I believe they have done a great job on specific responses, yet generalised them, rather then the extent of the generalisation of the responses they gave Tommy in Vice City.

That's my $0.02 anyway.

In response to the opening post, If anyone has any problems with carl being black, and the whole Rap culture, you can dress Carl in cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat as soon as you can access the clothing stores. And there is even a COUNTRY radio station! not to mention the rural areas of the game.

And this game is going to be a record breaker. It will be remembered in the Gaming History Books!

No it's not! Marylon Manson is evil. Maybe he'll walk in front of a train or something. :trouble:

Trust me, as soon as I get enough money, I'll have a truck that resembles my real life baby and i'll only listen to Country while cruising in it!

Well, I don't hate him being black, or the whole Rap Culture (any more), but I do hate Rap Music, and I will be changing channels.

But as KM said, you're evil. Or very very odd.

Lol, nah, just kidding. You can rock out with Willie Nelson all you want!

(I need this game bad)

*very very very mild spoiler*
(well not really but still better be safe)

The music in GTA:SA is actually really diverse. If you don't like rap music need not worry because the rock and other stations are really really well done, but come on.....who doesn't like early 90's rap :)

***RADIO STATION SPOILER ALERT***

I absolutely love Radio:X! I also love how WCTR is split up into different shows. I haven't even listened to 1/10 of WCTR yet, and Radio:X hasn't played every song for me either. I listen to K-Jah West when with my gang. K-DST gets boring, but it's funny.
