To be honest I'm a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I'm having loads of fun but I really think in some ways this is a giant step back from IV. The driving physics are absolutely horrid. I know the game want focused on that, but I much preffered IV's driving. Especially on motorcycles. And the damage is a major step backwards too. Very disappointed in those ways.

However, I like the story more so far. The characters are much more interesting and you get more of their personality in this game. About an hour ago I just got to the first Trevor mission and I laughed incredibly hard at his first cutscene.

So overall, not as awesome as I had hoped, but I still love it. I still have much more to try too, so it may improve.
For those new to the game, make sure you don't judge any of the driving based of the first "snowy" prequel mission. That is not the true game at all. Its only a prequel. In fact you can only get into 1 car in the "prequel" level. Its a prequel level, on snow, AND your driving skill doesn't exist yet.

I think the driving physics are miles ahead of 4. I am actually scratching my head in confusion. Also keep in mind your driving skills are very low in the beginning of the game. To say the driving physics are worse really confuses me. They nailed the driving physics. The best I have seen in a sandbox game. Maybe your opinion will change as your driving skills level up. Or as you upgrade cars.

The damage is also very impressive. I think your opinion of the physics and damage will change the more you play. Everything about 5 is better than 4 IMO. I personally think 4 was the worst of the series. Especially the campaign. Just my opinion. Also as you stated, you just started the game. I have well about 60 hours into this and absolutely love it. The start is a little slow. But it gets better and better.

I have to say my opinion of the driving physics did change a little as time went on. I noticed all the cars are different in the right ways on handling.

The damage I think is excellent as all the body panels / doors / bonnet / boot, everything falls apart :D The thing is though that there is no damage to the chassis. When you have a big impact it should bend and twist and it doesn't :(

Gasoline will eventually begin to leak from the tank if your car receives too much damage. Any strong collisions might result in your vehicle exploding.

There's an extra slot at the bottom of the character wheel. Is that significant at all or...? And no spoilers please, just a straight answer.

I read somewhere it is for your online character 👍

I don't understand how you can say the driving physics are better than 4. You know what I just did? Did a backflip in mid air in a car because I pressed down on the stick. I'm sorry but it's absolutely terrible. It's almost ruining the game for me because it just feels so unbelievably fake and cheesy. But regardless, I realized you have your opinion and I have mine. Hopefully I see it your way eventually.

That's an optional manipulation of the physics engine though, thanks to I believe Midnight Club.

Let the car sail through the air on its own & see what happens.

Yeah I don't touch the left stick during jumps, tumbles or even when on my roof. I don't like to magically be able to turn my car over with no effort.

You'll be thankful for it soon. Remember all the times we got stuck on our roofs while messing around online in GTA IV? :p

I like how he combat is really focused on taking cover like in real life. You can't just stand in the open not moving with an assault rifle and just destroy everything

Agreed. I am terrible at aiming on controller so I've been using the auto-lock mechanic for my entire playthrough. Even with the auto-lock, you need to pick off enemies one-by-one. If you go slightly out of cover for too long, especially when you have multiple enemies near you, you'll surely get killed. Also, during firefights I always switch weapons based on how close or far away the enemies are. Pistol or SMG with suppressor for stealth take downs, SMG or Carbine for long range targets, shotguns for close range. With a shotgun, I am always guaranteed a kill within one or two shots. This includes fully armored Merryweather guards and police officers/SWAT teams.

I see all these negative comments about car physics... and I'm happy to disagree about all of it. In IV, literally everything felt horribly sluggish and the complete lack of control made stunting a pain in the butt. Now that there's a nice touch of arcade-y in-air-controls, the experience is generally far more pleasant. IV made me realize that realism actually sucks, and belongs in real life rather than video games.

I liked the driving physics better in GTA IV, was harder but more fun.

Anothing thing that annoyed me was that when you get someones healthbar to zero they die instantly, in GTA IV alot of times people would still be alive, even after their health was depleted. Although not be able to get up, they would just lie wounded on the ground.

Also don't like the turbulence while flying, ruins the aim with my helicopter.

Pretty much everything else, I like :)

After getting 100% in my first play-through, I have come back to GTA V and I am loving the way I am finding new content. After cleaning out the Epsilon Programme as Michael, I have just taken on the Altruists as Trevor, which I never knew could be done. I know there is a third cult out there, so I am wondering if I can interact with them as Franklin.
