Physical editions come with a code in a box lol That's a no from me.

Just a way to cut out the reselling and that way being able to keep the cost of the game at $80 for years. I shouldn't have expected anything less from Rockstar I stupidly did.

Still hyped for the game but I can't justify £80 or whatever it is in Sterling for a digital copy only.

Calling a box with just a code a "physical edition" is quite a stretch... It's a voucher for the digital edition, that's all.

Bought GTAV as a digital edition. Never once did it occur to me that I might trade this game in…
I did when I bought it on PS3, the way i partly fund my gaming is by selling old games once im done with them.

I understand this isn't the biggest deal for a lot of people but im old and remember a time where companies didnt milk customer to death and im not willing to move with the times lol

Was totally expecting to pay £70 - but I never like GTA online, and I didn’t do any of the personalisation so I might just save myself £15 and go with the standard edition

Help me out here:

GTA+ is a membership service for GTA Online. GTAVI is "a single player experience" (sic).

It's not referenced anywhere immediately obvious beyond this line on the landing page... so what's this for?
I believe it’s their way of “thanking” players pre-ordering by giving them a month of GTA+ for free since the next heist DLC is around the corner & folks will be on GTA Online til November.

However, unless it has an expiration date (though I can’t imagine why), I would save it til VI’s online goes live. It’s very obvious Rockstar will be shifting some of the focus off Shark Cards towards GTA+ this next go around. Might as well get a month free bc they will most likely be putting some heavy “perks” behind GTA+ the first few months of VI Online.

Putting a lot of stuff behind the $100 is pretty scummy but this is Rockstar & it ensures they get $100 for the game vs the $80 from, I would assume, at least 40-50% of the player base. And yes, I will be enabling them; I’m surprised there’s not a Collector’s Edition but I’m sure it’ll probably come down the line as I believe V’s launched much later than anticipated.

It does appear to have an expiration date

You need to complete these steps by March 31, 2027, to claim the offer

That’s wild but still within’ VI’s release date, so I guess we wait & see.

I'll bite so Ultimate edition for me. I want the full and complete single player experience at the start. I couldn't care less for GTA Online so I'll pay their premium to not have anything kept behind a paywall... hopefully they'll drop free dlcs in the future but I'm not holding my breath!

Been waiting for ages for this, now I just want to play, be entertained and be amazed (good or bad) by what and why it took them so darn long to make this game!

But you get to either order it from Amazon of got into a store and get a box. Seriously though I agree it is a stretch to call it a physical edition hopefully once they hit whatever quota of digital sales they will release a disc. But I doubt it. The last GTA game I bought was San Andreas and I must admit this has me intrigued.

Interestingly, all I see from those links are dozens-to-hundreds of paywalled cosmetic items, from clothing and accessories to guns and cars, which makes me wonder exactly what their "online store" will look like if this is how it is pre-launch.

And far from being annoyed at being nickel-and-dimed...

... consumers appear to be lapping it up.

Edit: Scrolling through the Ultimate Edition benefits is pretty foul.

Guess they didn't have enough money from all the money-for-fake-money they made with GTA Online shark cards and GTA+ subs.
While I disagree with the appearance of price gouging, even at $100 GTA VI is probably better value than nearly any other game (ever) if you consider:

1. anticipated play hours
2. development cost

This is not a Gucci handbag where you're simply paying for the name. This is the result of 10+ years of development, thousands of talented people, and probably the single most ambitious project in the history of the medium.

If we adjust for inflation the "typical" price of games has gone from ~$100 in 1995 to ~$80 today but development costs have exploded from (again, inflation adjusted) $5m to upwards of $500m. GTA VI could easily have a $1.5bn+ development cost.

Put another way...GTA VI at $100 seems like tremendous value compared to Outer Worlds 2 at $80/$100. That said, the prospect of recurring costs / SSAO (like GTA+) is truly obnoxious to me. That's just Corporate America rent-seeking.

If you had managed to save $1.50 a year between the release of GTA V and GTA VI, you could buy the ultimate edition over the standard version with your savings.

Shark Cards have netted Rockstar three times that.
And they stand to make $10bn+ on GTA VI. If I never give them a cent beyond the initial $100 outlay, I still maintain its fantastic value for what you get, which is a lot. I never paid for any shark cards, nor GTA+ in GTA V so I think my 1,000+ hours in that game was well worth the $60.
