I am going to get (finally) GTA3 for my PC. (ten bucks at Wal-Mart :dopey: ) Should I use the keyboard, or buy a USB controller? I'm not sure which would be better. Thanks in advance.

the pc version is not made for these controllers, there is no auto-aim...

GTA3 pc is made for mouse+keyboard, and there is nothing better to control GTA than the usual first/third person shooter combo...

Yup, it has great control. There is so much nice things you can download for the PC version. I hope you do. If you want any good sites just tell me.

Definitely go with the keyboard and mouse. I remember wanting a controller so much, because I was so used to it, but when I tested it out at a friend's place, I came across the problem that Vladimir pointed out. It doesn't auto-aim, which makes it difficult. The mouse is the only way to aim.

Actually, there is auto aim if you switch the controls to classic mode, but it is no match for mouse and keyboard controls.

I use a combo of a mouse + keyboard and a PS1-style controller for driving.

I just cant seem to get the hang of keyboard driving, but the mouse aiming does wonders for the game. Its how it should be for every console shooter, joysticks just dont cut it.

Mouse and keyboard worked wonders for me.

Forget about a joystick or joypad.

I take it back. I've gotten Vice City for PC and driving is a pain in the ass. I've just unlocked the second island and flying the helicopters is even worse. I'm flying around like a drunk at the controls.

The main advantage is that aiming is far easier with the mouse - but there's no auto aim weapons, you have to aim manually.

I played GTA3 on PC at first, went to Vice City on PS2, GTA3 on PS2, San Andreas on PS2 and now Vice City on PC, so I'm probably just too used to the PS2 analog stick for driving and the control pad layout for flying and driving. I'm going to need to reconifigure my keyboard for suitable helicopter controls.

I think KM just summed up my thoughts exactly. Driving and flying is too uncoordinated to enjoy, it does make it look somewhat like you're drunk, and there's no way to "half-press" buttons, so if you want to fly forward and not dive south, it takes a series of pressing/non-pressing which gets tiring.

PS2 > PC. The only advantage that PC has are mods, but hopefully PS3 might change that.
