What's the point of them?

They get you all excited then either never reach production, or what does reach production is so watered down that it ends up being a massive disappointing.

I fail to understand what that has to do with coolness.
Because you'll never drive it and even if a production version was made it would almost certainly be toned down massively. I don't quite agree with it but it makes sense.

I still think this is a cool car.

You know all the things people do with cars? How cool would you look doing them in a Mazda RX500?

Oh wait, you wouldn't because you can't. Not even if you had enough money to buy it. Ever.

It's a concept, which is normally uncool, but it's a classic concept... which makes it cool.

It was a pioneer for rotary-powered cars. How does not being able to drive it make it uncool? I can't drive a Lamborghini because I can't afford one, but that doesn't make Lamborghinis uncool.

I can't afford a Jaguar F-Type. I've driven one though (and it was cool :D ).

But no matter how much money you've got, you can't drive a Mazda RX500. And if you can't drive it, it's not a car any more.

But even if you had the money, you couldn't buy one, and therefore any of the cool things you could do with it isn't going to happen.

Edit:Tree'd

What do the green lights do?
Green for accelerating, yellow are the indicators (which you probably knew), orange for constant speed, and the red lights were brake-pressure sensitive, so they'd light up bright when hard on the brakes, etc.

Has a brilliant interior too - check out the dish on that steering wheel!

There was a Mustang concept that was like that too. Neat idea.

It's a concept, it doesn't look that great to me, but it has a rotary.

Uncool.

👍

People vote loads of cars as being uncool for being garage queens, since if they're never driven then they're not cars, they're museum pieces. It's the same deal with concepts, and I don't think Mazda in particular are going to be letting anyone outside of the company drive any concepts for a while.

70s sports concept car that actually was one of the "few" concepts that worked? Possibly one of the first rotary engine cars that worked?

Sub Zero.

TO THE ICE BOX!

(Or am I not allowed to vote on my own nomination?)

That this car is such an arcane choice suggests it should probably have been posted instead in the Cars You Didn't Know Existed Until Now thread.

The Wankel engine will forever reside with the Dvorak keyboard and Sony Betamax in the Museum of "Bad Ideas That Seem Like Good Ideas That Nerds Like to Annoyingly Rant About".

The Ford Turbine car sits across the isle.
