This isn't an attention grabber. This isn't a chrome plated, exaggerated, daytime running lightened, monstrosity. This is a classy luxury sedan in it's purest form. It's not exactly a Pullman, but it's still pretty good.

It also has an emblem sticking up from the hood. I haven't seen those in forever. Cool.

Uncool perhaps, but you have to respect the engineering...

According to Mercedes' Classic Center the man who put the most miles on a Mercedes is Gregorios Sachinidis, also a Greek taxi driver. From 1981 to 2004 he logged an intergalactic 2.8 million miles on his 1976 w114 240D before donating it to the Mercedes-Benz museum in exchange for a new C200 CDI.

I know it's not an S, but even so. Merc taxi's.. built for the job it seems.

I'm going uncool 'cus Johnny B is gonna smoke you... unless Vinny Jones.

The yakuza special. I think these are awesome, but I can't vote it cool. Meh.

The coupe we voted on earlier is cooler, but I'd rather have the sedan. Some Euro spec cars received a champagne chiller between the rear seats. You could also order a base stripper spec with cloth seats and a 5-speed. Truly a version for everyone.

When these were brand new, I preferred both the E38 7-Series and the first-gen Audi A8. I still do.

Not a hideous car by any means, but it isn't really cool either.

After Mercedes stopped being cool, but before they became particularly uncool. May well be a cool car in 20 years time, but for now it's just mildly uncool.

Another bulletproof Mercedes, that it's full gangster car without working for it. Paint one of these in black, and everybody, everywhere will respect you. That's cool. Also we have confort, power and technology all in one as bonus.

The most dull and bloated-looking generation of S-class. No doubt it's incredibly reliable and well engineered - but when has that ever been cool?

You'd get more enjoyment from been driven in it than you would driving it yourself. Might as well be a rickshaw.

Uncool.

The turning point in Mercedes-Benz history along with this generation's C-Class companion. From vintage granite to built-to-budget taxigraphs.

Seriously Uncool

This is the very last of the old money Benzes. I'm not quite sure how that effects their coolness compared to other Benzes, but this was also the last Benz that looked truly imposing and that does add to cool.

A very good, very competent, very understated car.

Not an exciting one. Meh.
