Nah, the Eclipse still has a chance I think, simply for being such a big part of the first movie. The Supra was the bigger one of course, but the internet gets priapic over those anyway so it's the more obvious choice.

I just learned a new word today! :dopey:

I've watched the opening scene of FF2, I think it was, and that is all I have seen from all the movies.

Nobody really gave a monkeys about the DeLorean when BTTF first hit theatres - that a DeLorean was used was part of the joke. But three films and quarter of a century down the line it's the thing people remember. The Eclipse and the Supra will be the things people remember from TFATF.

I won't argue that it has a chance, but I just see and hear a lot more on games/forums/and in general conversation about the GTR. The F&F Eclipse will always have a special place in car culture, but I doubt it'll have the same kind of fame the DeLorean, McQueen's Mustang, or Herby, because Eclipses are such a common car on the streets that they're quickly eroding the chance for anyone to see them at much more than face value. Something as honestly mediocre-but-stylish as the DeLorean was able to gain notoriety because they're just so rare that it eventually became something special to see one in the wild, and even in a show.

Great potential, but Fast and the Furious crowd ruined this already otherwise ugly jellybean of a car.

Seriously uncool.

Maybe in the US it will have a 'special place in car culture' but elsewhere in the world where it isn't sold (ie most places), it's just some crappy FWD coupe.

They're literally everywhere here and most people view them as exactly that.

Full disclosure: I actually like the green F&F Eclipse.

It was from a truly tasteless period of car modification but let's face it, in 2001 when I was 16 years old, that was just how people modified those kind of cars. It's already 13 years ago and I already feel nostalgia for that period, just as I do for the F&F-influenced Need for Speed games and magazines like Max Power covered with models with their tits out. It's not a period I'd like to return to, but for better or worse it's shaped the modified car culture we have today. At the very least, we can get a laugh out of it.

The Eclipse is representative of that. Wild, more show than go, bright and colourful. Not at all cool, but likeable.

I'll be honest, a part of me does still quite like the huge sound systems in the boot and shopping lists down the sides of the doors - I'd never do either of those to my car, and they are tacky, but I'll admit I've always found them cool for whatever reason.

Modified car trends are just that; trends. Putting a billion stickers on your car, neon lights, a PS2 in the dash and exuberant paint schemes was the thing 12 - 13 years ago. That slowly changed, became phased out and is now replaced with this whole 'stance nation' thing of just making your car as low as possible and putting a bunch of stickers (usually pop culture based) on your back window. In a few years, that will inevitably change too.

You still see people who either jumped on the bandwagon too late or are unaware that it isn't in fashion anymore, hence why you still see crummy little Saxos (or Civics in the U.S.) that have Altezza lights and bodykits that don't quite fit properly. I suspect in a few years, we'll be seeing a bunch of Mk. III Golfs with Taiwanese coilovers scraping everything, billowing smoke whilst wearing a 'Haters make me famous <3' sticker on the back. And when that happens, we'll see those cars as uncool for the same reason we find the Eclipse uncool.

What do you mean when that happens?

They're already seriously uncool.
