Because bad ideas push out good. You get electric cars to a point where they're tolerable for the average person, they'll buy nothing else because for some reason they think a car that makes no noise is a good thing. Then good luck ever finding a mainstream entry-level or midsize car with an ICE ever again. It's happened many times - RWD giving way to FWD, ruthless displacement downsizing becoming the norm, and now improved automatic transmissions chasing away manuals. You let things like this take hold and they will kill everything you love.
They'll SAVE everything we love by saving the fuel! Don't you get it?

Welcome to the 1970's!

Well what's bad about electric cars? Also who here is environmentalist? And you too along with him might want to research what R&D is. I'd start with scientific journal articles on bio fuel, hydrogen combustion, if you need more help just ask.

Try starting the batteries in Canadian weather. -40 degrees.

And I never said there were environmentalists here. All the TV commercials and the science books at school. I've seen enough of it.

You have to be the biggest user of emotional plea in conversation than any other single person I've come across in my life. The funny part is I'd take a hippies droning about save the trees man over your crying about archaic systems that are only fading out because their are better methods. If you want to be stuck in a time loop that's fine.

At this point I cant tell if your trolling or really that dense

How old are you? Also there are similar issues with ICE, and you can protect batteries from cold, once again research or perhaps open up those science books.

This is one of those cars that mostly appeals to automotive hipsters. Everything about it, from the extremely awkward styling to the geeky technology powering it is so different and unusual, its the main reason why it was a sales failure. Have to give it SU.

Good.

Shifting gears and having an annoying engine wheeze in the background is distracting.

So is this just a straight-up battle of self-centered, self-righteous viewpoints, now? Or could we please avoid flipping to the other side of the coin?

What's most annoying about W&N's ravings is how other members take his appallingly weak supporting arguments as an open invitation to mock perfectly valid viewpoints, including an unwavering preference for manual transmission.

The 5-speed in the Insight is one of the reasons I voted Cool.

Excuse me I need to snap for a moment.

Do you not understand.

THE FUEL
IS RUNNING OUT

PETROLEUM IS SOON TO BE NO MORE

If the common masses were to shift to electric cars, it saves the fuel for the car enthusiast - much like horses were saved for the.. horse.. enthusiast? (Is there a term for people who love horses and own them recreationally?)

"Ruthless downsizing" and the race for the mighty MPG is incredibly important to those of us who just love to drive cars that appeal to us.

And @White & Nerdy ? When was the last time you bought a new car? what right do you have to talk about "What is available these days" when you CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY ANY OF THESE SO CALLED SACRILEGIOUS AUTOs

NOT TO MENTION, YOU DRIVE A FWD ECOBOX

How so exactly?

No one is mocking him, I have issue with his myopic views and I have as much right to express that as he does to show his ignorance on here. Also there are plenty of people who want manual transmission but expression their like or dislike for this car without sounding as if they have a biased uneducated view.

But hey if that's what you want to defend.

Can I give you a man-hug? Those are exactly my thoughts on the matter, specifically the analogy with what happened with horses.

When the commuting masses use methods of transportation that save fossil fuels only good things can come to us and our kind. More fuel to burn on the track and the b-roads!!!

It's interesting to see how people (on both sides of the fence) seem to think that being antagonistic towards other car fans is cool... that's not cool, surely.

Not to correct you mid rant, but I just wanted to say that his car isn't even an econobox it's gets worse gas mileage than my V6 2007 Taurus did

With your comment that I quoted, it seemed you were applying the typical luddite argument to W&N's preference for RWD over modern FWDs, manual over automated transmissions, or ICEs over electric cars. Each of those "better methods" are only better in certain contexts, which is where one's preferences come in.

His chronic inability to separate opinion from the facts is no excuse to drag down some of the opinions he happens to hold, which is what tends to happen. If that wasn't your intention, I apologize.

That'd be great if that was the aspect he was arguing from which is obvious given his history that it isn't about preference but a constant thing. And the only time that mold breaks is for the double standard known as his personal vehicle. You defending him like some white knight is unnecessary considering the ignorance. Unless you prescribe to that sort of thing.

The problem is this isn't his opinion he actually thinks this is fact and that the world should operate in a certain way end of story. I'm not dragging down anything and I like others here, I'm trying to show reality, I wasn't aware of it being such a crime.

I'm such a hypocrite, I know. Mainly watching anime but primarily reading western comics, barely liking any rock music but still enjoying playing the guitar, liking cars but wanting to protect the environment...

It's like these things aren't mutually incompatible or something.

;)
