2001 BMW M3 GTR Race Car

I mean even the most Anti-BMW guy acknowledges that greatness.

I don't think that greatness has anything to do with coolness.

This. Who here has said the M3 GTR is a bad car? Who said it was rubbish at what it does? Nobody. In this case it being uncool is not to do with that.

1) Race car. They're not cool. You can disagree with it if you want but it is a well established GTP trope.

2) Need For Speed. Video game fanboys.

Both of those things say this is a seriously uncool car albeit a rather good one. That one often must qualify an uncool vote with "...but it's a good car" shows how much other members still consider this a like wall. Even then, this isn't a production car and shouldn't be polled anyway.

... anyway, have an onboard

Great video. He certainly didn't seem to be hanging about, then I clicked on the link. "Driven by Hans-Joachim Stuck." Ah, that explains it..

If we're talking about games, and we're on a Gran Turismo fan site, why not mention that a car with the real, fantastic-looking Schnitzer livery - instead of a design re-imagined for 12-year olds playing NFS - is featured on Gran Turismo 4, 5 and 6?

All things considered, I think there isn't any point in voting on a race car. You can't drive them on the road, so the average Joe won't have any opinion - or even have a chance to form one. For those in the know, pretty much any race car is exciting flat out around a circuit, and normally stunning to look at close up.

I find racers based on the most dreary, mundane road cars - the BTCC Vauxhall Cavaliers and Nissan Primeras spring to mind - to be borderline pornography, so I'm obviously going to like this...

Even then, this isn't a production car and shouldn't be polled anyway.

Even though I disagree with the reasoning, it does seem rather pointless, given the standard reaction.

SUBblahblah.

If the car wasn't in NFS Most wanted in the first place then no one will ever know it except couple guys. We all rather judge on the Real life version that had a way better history than an EA Game with bad represent of the E46 GTR. I will gave it Cool based on Real life. but If it was based on NFS however then it's "Ultra Uncool" for me.

Also Race car means SU Because you can't drive it? i bet most of you (if not all of you) can't drive a Porsche 918 or Mclaren F1 or P1, Am i right?

So i'll vote as Uncool.

Racecar = Seriously Uncool for a number of reasons. Not being able to drive it is just one of many.

Is it possible to buy a McLaren P1 or Porsche 918 and drive it in the street? Yes.

Is it possible to buy a McLaren MP4/4 or Porsche 956 and drive it in the street? No.

BMW M3 GTR = cool. Race car version = meh. It's not a Porsche ;) = uncool. Average result = meh.

Honestly NFS just ruins everything here. It's basically the same as the Eclipse/Skyline/Charger except for the fact that popular videogame cars are even LESS cool than popular movie cars.

I love this car and I would vote cool or even sub zero on the road version, yet, this isn't the road version and although it's brilliant it can't be cool

Because there isn't much of anything to mention about it in the context of the GT series. It was just one car out of 700/800/1000/1200, and the most notable thing about it in the series history was that PD seemed to think it was a DTM car (or could pass as one for those who didn't know better) in GT5. For someone who didn't pay attention to GT racing in the early 00's (or didn't see the ads BMW took out after Porsche lobbied to have the car essentially thrown out of American GT racing), the car could have been made up for all GT4 did to explain its real life history.

Fixed for extreme pedantry.

It looks fantastic and it's not a bad racecar, but its NFS appearance was one of the first things to cross my mind and it has two cylinders too many. I settled on Meh.

Hah, screw you guys, I'm voting this to Sub-Zero. Don't care what you all say, SUBRC, or SUBMW. I love the car with a passion, even more in MW with that livery. I have an extreme soft spot for that and it's by far, my favourite generation of the M3.

Even if you could somehow get this on the road, it'd still be uncool, almost bordering seriously so because it would look so out of place. NFS connections really don't help. The road car is just as bad since it's apparently made from unobtainium and you'd have to have a ridiculously huge bank account to have one.

That said, it does make one hell of a noise.

I like this car, but...

SU.

Yeah, it may be very capable, but... it's not cool, and the whole NFS thing doesn't help.

This car captivated me as a young child with, you guessed it, NFS: Most Wanted. It was really the last great Need for Speed.

This has been my favorite race car for a long, long time. Followed closely by the E30 DTM M3, and Z4 GT3. I don't think it's hard to see what I voted. :D

I don't get why racecars are so well established as being uncool. I mean, if you have make a new friend, you can tell them you have a racecar (which makes you a race driver)! And when they see it, it isn't just a Mazda MX5 with a rollcage, but a full blown race car... They're going to think you're cool. Well, either that or they'll think you're a pretentious show off; or they're from Greenpeace and want it converted to a flower dispenser. But if that's the case, then why the heck are you hanging around with them!?

It's not like it's your only car, and you have to ride a unicycle or a pink bicycle with tassels and a cute little bell to get anywhere else. It's a car you take to the track and hand yourself fun by the trailer load, and you have a normal car that you use for day to day living on the side.

Wow really ? I thought this car is loved by everyone after it's made as the NFS Hero car.

I never thought people here would hate it so much though. Me personally i love this car even before the NFS featured it.

Like or hate does not equal cool or uncool. I love this thing but I still voted Seriously Uncool, because it is, even before taking its Need For Speed connections in to account. Add the NFS factor in and it's even more uncool.

Imagine you are (somehow) driving one of these on the road in your home town. Do you think people will look at you and think 'Wow, he's cool!'? I'd suggest they're more likely to be thinking 'What the hell's making all that noise? Oh, some attention seeking idiot with a loud car and massive wing. What a bell end.'. You couldn't give anyone a lift in it, because it's only got one seat, which makes you look like a loner. Loners aren't cool. Then a few people might ask you about it. 'It's a racing car that also featured in a video game...'

I really do like this car, but it isn't cool at all.

Well it seems many people think the road car was cooler so I decided to nominate that.

Anyways, I've give this car a Cool rank. Why?

+ Its the hero car of NFS, and I was always thought many people loved this car, besides who would want a Schnitzer liveried M3 GTR in a street racing game? Too bad Cross had to total it in Carbon. And for those who think this is the only ALMS car that appeared in a street racing game, well you're wrong. In Most Wanted, Chevy Corvette C6.R was also featured in the game and also in a police vinyl by Cross.
+ This car is powered by a P60B40 engine that is developed alongside Williams F1 Racing.
+ This car made Porsche scared that they had to report it to FIA because the M3 violated a few rules in ALMS.
+ 500hp in a GT car. Yes.
But of course, there are some negatives which I have to agree on. Besides I'm just new to the Cool Wall and I didn't know a race car would be Uncool rank.

Prepare to be disappointed, and this isn't a competition.

Seriously uncool.

I was always thought many people loved this car

Too bad this is a cool wall rather than a like wall, then.

besides who would want a Schnitzer liveried M3 GTR in a street racing game?

What does this have to do with anything?

Too bad Cross had to total it in Carbon.

What?

That is the coolest stream of arbitrary, meaningless, unmemorable letters and numbers I have ever encountered.

This car made Porsche scared that they had to report it to FIA because the M3 violated a few rules in ALMS.

So they cheated? Not cool.

Statistics are the coolest thing in the world bar chartered accountancy.

But of course, there are some negatives which I have to agree on. Besides I'm just new to the Cool Wall and I didn't know a race car would be Uncool rank.

This isn't a competition, and the 917 in the Ice Box suggests that that just isn't the case.

Oh, ok maybe I went too much on that. Next time I shouldn't nominate race cars then.

Uh...

This isn't a competition, and the Porsche 917 in the Ice Box suggests that that just isn't the case.

Did you take any of what I said in? Feel free to nominate race cars if you want, just don't be surprised if they get a lot of seriously uncool votes, especially when you fill the additional information with vaguely related ramblings about a video game series commonly associated with 9 year olds.

Remember, this isn't a competition to nominate the coolest car. It's a place to discuss cars and what makes them cool or uncool.

Thanks. Man I'm beginning to think this is a competition but I was wrong. :dunce:
