Its tremendous off-road capability is wasted thanks to its main customer base. Seriously, Land Rover should just split the Range Rover in two: one car that leans more on luxury than off-road, and the other vice versa.

Reputation be damned - and it's one that hasn't much latched on around here, luckily - but I gave it a Cool. It's the Rolls of SUV's, but it's always felt more like the old Rollers than the new ones Zee Germans have been building. I've personally had a few people change their mind on it once they've got inside, and it certainly isn't the soccermom-mobile something like the Murano or Rav4 is.

The Sport is most assuredly Uncool, but the regular Rangie still has enough class, IMO.

And you need a million pound pad to afford one - it's a £100k car near enough.

Envious - and there's a world of difference between pointing out that the furthest anywhere that these go-anywhere cars go is a gravel driveway in Footballer-on-Lyme and being envious of it.

Oddly, the last one of these I saw had a bodykit on it and all of the RANGE ROVER letters on the front replaced with some guy's name (Danno or Daveo or Steveo or something), matching the personalised registration plate.

I wasn't even slightly envious. I was in fact entirely glad I didn't have what he had (which included a parking ticket and a wheel clamp, as he'd shoved it into an ambulance bay at the A&E. Bell end).

Quite a few - and certainly on the school run. You might also remember the GTP trip to Le Mans two and three years ago, where we had 6 and 7 stuffed into a Sportage. No idea what this has to do with anything either.

The car's an okay piece of automotive bloatware but, for me, two things stop it being cool; the existence of the Landie and the history of the Road/Range Rover. It's become less cool with each iteration, in my opinion.

Yes, I meant the 2002 one, the Range Rover Classic is great, although it also had some quality/reliability problems, which was the main reason why I called the early L322s crap. Anyway, it's almost phenomenal how much the L322 improved in 10 years.
