Ugly, fussy design. Folding hardtop. Early '00's Merc.

Definitely Uncool, but not seriously so.

Aping the SLR's F1-derived styling touches didn't work out so well. Although it's less of an eyesore than the current SLK lump.

Uncool regardless of what's under the bonnet.

This was the forefront of that odd period where everyone was trying to copy the FW26, which dated it just as instantly as similarly cartoonish designs like the jellybean Taurus and AU Falcon.

Mechanically I like it, but the nose made this really ugly IMO. That and I don't think I've ever seen one above 55mph.

uncool.

I've always had a soft spot for these.

IMO a good looking car, well packaged and apart from the lack of back seats, could be a reasonable daily-driven sports-convertible in all seasons.

Compact, yes. Lightweight, probably not. But a willing V8 and a drop top means you're going to have fun!

Ah, if only the "hairdresser vibes" could go away from this, I could actually like it. But sadly it quite isn't the case. It may have been the first Black Series Merc and have a V8 in the engine bay, but this SLK doesn't quite make it past meh for me. Need to see a proper person behind the wheel of one to raise my rating...

Standard SLK is a girl's car. This one....not so much.

The ones I've seen have had rather normal-looking blokes driving. Not hairdressers as far as I could see.

And essentially it replied to the then trend of premium sports roadsters with one of the best sounding V8 motors and a whole heap of power.

If that's not at least a Cool, I don't know what is.

I love this car. I'd have a hell of a time choosing between the SLK 55 Black and the SL 65 Black to go in my 3 car garage.

Sub Zero for me
Uncool for everybody else

So either meh or cool.

Cool because AMG and 🤬 everybody else's opinion :mischievous:

I have a hard time looking at this car without imagining someone that looks like Paris Hilton behind the wheel.

Seriously Uncool.

Seriously uncool. Ugly wannabe-F1 pignose, overweight chassis which was remedied by adding powerful motors and price. R170 SLK is far better than this one.

Cool. Maybe cause small car with big engine. And I like small cars with big engines. But I like the F-Type better.
