Saturday, July 26th
Event #2 - Ended
Saturday, Sept 6th

Event #3 TBA

Grab your favorite airplane or helicopter
and meet at Los Santos International Airport

During event, post PSN for invites or use
Pause menu -> Online -> Crews -> My Crews ->
GTPlanet -> View Members -> slugman684 -> Join Game

Possible events include:
  • Show off your piloting skills with an aerobatic routine.
  • Team up with other GTP crew members for formation flying.
  • Pile into the Titan with the crew and go skydiving.
  • Head out on a trip around the map as part of an airborne convoy.

Rules:
  • Lazers and Buzzards will be allowed - Don't intentionally kill other players. Don't destroy other vehicles.
  • If there are a lot of spectators, there will be a designated airspace for the air show performers. If you're flying around, please stay outside of this area when someone is performing (unless you have their permission).
  • Try to crash away from the crowd. If you have to bail out, get your plane heading away from the other players first.

If you're interested in joining, sign up with the following info:
PSN name
Are you in the GTP Crew?
Are you performing an aerobatic routine?

Sounds awesome! I love flying in this game!

I guess my biggest "stunt" would be flying a helicopter through the tunnel underneath Fort Zancudo. I could use either the Buzzard or Frogger and have three other people riding along. I know that stunt is not at LSX, but it's still something I enjoy doing.

Another minor stunt I've done before is flying a helicopter into the hangar where the Titan is stored at LSX and flying around it inside the hangar without crashing.

I'd be up for this, my time zone is London GMT and I play mostly at night (23:00 - 02:00 particularly).

Can I fly a Vestra and / or Mallard around the bridges along the storm drain route?
I'll fly pretty much anywhere and always try for tricky stunts.

A game of target practice with Lazer cannons would be fun too, everyone gets one pass to try and hit a placed vehicle or something.

That's one of the reasons I listed the cross country flight as an event. Flying low, under bridges, and around buildings is some of the best flying in the game. I know we're limited in what stunts can be done at the airport, but I thought it would be a little different if there was an element of an air show before we headed out from the airport. I'm hoping we can get some people teaming up for head-on passes, in a GTA equivalent of this:

That sounds a lot better than a mock dogfight idea I had. It allows for confirmation of a hit much easier.

Will it be recorded for YouTube?

I don't have a way to capture video from the PS3, but if someone else can and wants to, then they're more than welcome to do so. Also, anyone in the meet is encouraged to take pictures - from the ground, midair, anywhere.

If someone can glitch the Atomic Blimp into multiplayer, I suggest someone use that to take photos as it is the most stable aerial camera platform in the game. Helicopters are unfortunately too unstable due to the amount of turbulence.

I'd love to take part in this, but a) I never know when I'll be available and b) my flying stat is too low, even though I fly as often as possible, more or less. I'd be all over the place. I hope someone manages to get good photos, though!

I thought your flight stat increases if you win air races. Maybe I'm wrong.

Just taking part increases the stat. I also heard that making clean landings in freemode increases it more than just flying around.

Go to Trevor's airfield with the Velum, then just land, take off, retract landing gear, open landing gear again, repeat. You can do this 4-5 times from the start to the end of the runway and it takes maybe 30 minutes to max out your flying skill.

Really? That'll be very helpful for new players.

I've decided on Saturday the 26th, with two time options, late morning or late evening for me.

Option 1:
Eastern US - 11am
Western US - 8am
London - 4pm
Sydney - 1am Sunday 27th

Option 2:
Eastern US - 11pm
Western US - 8pm
London - 4am Sunday 27th
Sydney - 1pm Sunday 27th

Start time can be shifted a bit (+/- 1 hour) to accommodate people if necessary. If there's enough interest (4 person lobby at least) then I'll run the air show during at both times.

Let me know which option works best for you guys.

Both are good for me, but I think option two would be best.

I hope we get more people. Maybe advertise on the GTAO thread.

Hey @fatman_5050, I just got an idea: If people are going to be flying in formation and want specific colors, we can create a custom deathmatch. We wouldn't be able to place vehicles in LSX normally, so we would either have to glitch them in or have them placed at another location like a highway without too many obstructions or Trevor's airfield. Just the only problem with flying in formation while in a deathmatch is the pilots would need to be on the same team to see each other on the minimap.

how i can join?
Sign up here - PSN name, Are you in GTP Crew?, plane you'll be flying. I'll start asking people to sign up using that format. It's easier if you're in the GTP Crew, I can just run down the members list in-game and send invites (if Rockstar have fixed that).

That's a good idea, I usually use the desert airfield for things like that. If we wanted a specific color, we could just move there. The only thing is that I'm not sure if you can use Snapmatic in Deathmatch, etc.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. I believe Nerdcubed and InTheLittleWood both used Snapmatic in their most recent Little and Cubed episode.

Sorry to hear that @Nurburgthing. I hope to run this again in the future, so there should be more opportunities to join in.

@CallmeDan @Ecomine - I may run only the second (later) time if that's fine with you, unless other people want the early one.

PSN: nomeite
Are you in the GTP Crew? Yes
Which time will you be joining? Option 2
Which plane will you be piloting? Vestra
Are you performing an aerobatic routine? ok

Thanks @CallmeDan @ExoSphere64 @Marcus Garvey for joining. A few small changes might happen to the format, but I think it was an enjoyable time. We may need an official photographer for future events, though. Trying not to crash while taking pictures isn't easy. Don't text and drive, kids.

There will be another at some point in the future, possibly after heists are released and more people are back playing GTA Online.

A collection of rolls, low flying, and formation flying in the Titan. The diamond formation tour of San Andreas was pretty impressive.

@ExoSphere64 - It's not really a group or club exactly, it's more of a random thing to do that's different from the events you usually see on here. It's open to anyone in the GTP crew, and possibly to friends of GTPers in the future.

I am not an official member as of yet but I got the chance to hang out with @CallmeDan , @Slugman684 and @marcus_garvey. Pretty cool impromptu night of flying and noodling around. I had a pretty good time and wanted to post a couple of pics from the session...

Starting off with a little "Rooftop Rumble" of our own.

Just a tad disorganized in the beginning.

Found myself having a cold one with Davey Jones after a small error in judgement.

Once we settled down and formed up, we had some great flying!

Concluded the night with some precision flying by Dan...

Pretty cool. I hope to participate again in the future!

Initially, I thought the meet was going to be a total disaster, combined with accidentally killing you guys multiple times. I was tempted to just bail, but I stuck around and had a pretty good time. It was pretty epic flying in formation with the Titans. We just need to have better communication and more players next time. I'll post pictures tomorrow. Spoiler: They're from my phone. :/

The ridiculous turbulence in GTA V makes me actually think flying in formation with AC-130s would be easier in a game like DCS World.
