General Information and Regulations

As with last season there will be three types of race event during the season. There will be 4 Standard rounds of 50mi and 5 Enduro rounds of 100mi and 1 Super-Enduro round of 150mi.

Week starts on Monday, with times to be sent via PM by 11.59pm GMT on Sunday

There is NO HP penalty for joining the series part way through the season.

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by GTPCTC sanctioning body, umm...me for now unless the GTMSA wants to pick me up :P. Any and all questions should be directed to GTPCTC officials (namely me..and anyone else who wants to help out) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manor.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by me for each round. Horsepower and/or weight settings are adjusted for competitive reasons each round based on finishing positions from previous rounds.

* Standard Online Racing Rules Apply.
* No Cheating, hybrids, etc. You must run the car specifications I give you
* Try keeping at least 2 wheels on course. Long races = small mishaps, but absolutely NO shortcuts. Touching Rumble Strips is okay as some tracks it's impossible to miss them...like Autumn Ring.
* No wall-riding as well. Combined with penalties, this will slow you down considerably, so don't do it.
* All decisions by GTMSA officials are final
* The race track for this season will be defined as the area between the white or yellow lines. This means rumble strips do not count as track.

Race

* Single race (arcade mode) lasting either 50mi (standard) or 100mi (enduro) with the exception of Round 9 which is a 150mile race, but will be considered an enduro.
* Weight penalties in place
* SS, SM, SH tires or any combination thereof
* Strong Tyre Wear
* AI difficulty is player's choice between 0 and 10. No negatives.
* Ai tyres SS
* Forced Pit Entry penalty system
* ASM is prohibited TCS is optional
* Points for race: 10-8-6-4-2-1

These AI drivers are a pest. In the first lap I had contact with four of the five, simply because they drove into me!

Are we minimising AI contact, or is rubbin' racin'?

I would say typical rubbing we'd see during a CTC race (fenders, doors, etc) is okay as long as it doesn't force anybody off-track, but punting is out of the question, be it us or the Ai. As SS noted, if we have the "PIt Force Entry" slider ON during these races, it virtually eliminates our ability to punt, anyways.

Here's something to think about. When I did the GS race at Autumn Ring, I noticed a +8 race was torture; while a +7 was manageable, but not as exciting. The +8 sucked mostly because I was using hard tires while the Ai is on soft sports (as per the rules). Therefore, the Ai was braking later than me, and using ME as a brake if necessary.

I really wanted to do the GS race at +8 difficulty (just gets my adrenaline going) but had to settle for a less-exciting +7, thanks to the agro Ai. :indiff:

I must have been doing something right then - I didn't trip the forced pit entry while the AI ignored my presence.

NOTE: The DTP only triggers if you hit someone with the FRONT of your car and even then you have to do it pretty hard or a lot. It'll trigger if you get hit from behind, too, but it takes a bit more force.

Tyre strategy is fun on this, but the AI is not. I can just about manage to keep them out of my way on +4 (ST class), but I still get a ridiculously slow backmarker and a rabbit out front.

Still, after much practice, I think I've got a pretty smart tyre strategy now and I just need to get a good run in. Won't be happy until I'm under "the next whole minute down" (my theoretical time is xx'06  )

Rats. A couple of shaky laps in the beginning, coupled with never really finding the same speed as the previous attempt (FL x'xx.8 compared to x'xx.0 in the previous run) means I'm outside my goal time for now :(

Plenty more runs left yet though. Mind you, I've not turned a wheel in ST class yet...

I tried to do this last night....could not remember how many laps we had to do. :dunce:
So i set it to 23, but I was so tired on lap 19 I dosed off and ended up in the sand box  now I'm kicking myself :grumpy:
Any how I am please with the tire combo I chose will retry before the WC starts of Friday :D

Buh. Ran 3.4s quicker thanks to rejigging pitstops - pitting in on a faster lap - and a series of xx.6, xx.7 and xx.8 laps near the end. Not 100% happy with it (a minor off on lap 3 - just cutting the inside of the left leaving the chicane in T1) but it's close enough to my goal time to submit.

Now. GS class :D

I think Famine is having waaay too much fun guys.

Well it's up to you guys to ruin it. I could but I'd have to use the Bentley from my other series.

Ran my race last night. Went smoothly and had consistent lap times up until lap 22 and was punted by one AI into the one in front of me and had to do the DTP walk. :banghead:

No time for another one. :grumpy:

Oddly, I've just finished my GS class race and got absolutely clattered by a BMW M3 GTR twice in two laps, taking the same corner (turn 5) across the inside, sideways, both times as a result. I was miles faster than him through the opening complex and left onto the straight with a hefty speed advantage - of course he has pots more power and made up the difference quite quickly and just leaned on me all the way down the straight until I hit grass.

So, although I'm only 1.283s slower than my calculated goal time, I lost 5s between those laps and a couple seconds elsewhere. I think I'll drop the AI one grade and run again. Bastards.

yeah, I usually just let the AI players go past me if they're that insistent on it.

speaking of. I still need to do these races and qualify at LeMans. But remember the actual LeMans starts tomorrow and the CTSPCC from Walkins Glen airs on Sunday. So, it's a full weekend of racing.

Thing is, I was faster than him everywhere but a straightline. If I'd sat behind him, I'd have lost a good 2s a lap. I was literally belting onto the T1 straight at 20mph above his speed, but by the end of the straight he was 10mph faster than me - and I had to go left every time because he'd run wide to the right and it was the only way to not smash him up the arse.

What I hate is sometimes I WILL let them pass me. no harm/no foul. But then I'll catch up to them again if they're not as good with braking as I am. I don't wanna give up my lap times, so I'll try to dive-bomb. And then half the time I get in front of the guy I just let pass me. :dunce: Down the straight...and now he's hungry for my lead again. :banghead: Should I let him have it? Or should I block him and risk a punt from the rear?

*shrug* Usually in a real race, if that were happening (and it does) usually it continues until someone crashes (or both of them) or someone pits or makes a slight mistake. But those fights can make a race exciting.

Didn't quite nail the perfect run - lap 2 was awful - but I took 4s off my previous time so I'll submit it. Managed a fastest lap on my last lap too :D

both races done. I would have won in GS, but I got a little too lost in thought and ended up going trying to do the long course which cost me a couple positions. Ended up getting second because of it.

ST I got third. Was beaten by a Nissan Silvia S13 and a Ford SVT F150 Lightening. Yeah, beaten by a truck. But so was everyone. He even lapped the two guys in the back.

Darn trucks. Hey don't forget to watch the Grand-Am CTC tomorrow.

Excellent! 👍
Sadly I've only had chance to run this race once, but I'm happy with my result.
Ran against +6 AI lineup of:
Audi RS 6 Avant '02
Lotus Esprit V8 SE '98
Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Coupe '00
Audi RS 6 '02
Lotus Esprit V8 '02

Finished ~33s ahead of 2nd placed Lotus Esprit V8 SE '98 and lapped both Audis and the Aston! (and got rated at 188 A-spec points to boot!)

Absolutely no contact with any of the AI cars, a minor graze of the barrier entering the pits :dopey: (I wasn't quite sure where the autodrive takes over!) and only once got 3 tyres beyond the edge of the rumble strips exiting S-curve on lap 22. 👍

Looking forward to the results of this one...:D

Whoa...GTP looks all weird and stuff.

Time almost submitted...

Okay I'm in.

Did my ST race at +7, which was kind of a borefest. A Renault Cliosport V6 got the lead at some point, and there was obviously no catching up. I think I toussled a bit with whoever was in 2nd (can't remember...)

Tried GS at +7 which was REALLY a borefest. LOoked like it would be fun (a couple BMW M3s and a Lotus Esprit showed up) but I got ahead of them early. An Audi sedan showed but was no competition. The pole-position leader was an ancient Superbird, which surprisingly took an early jackrabbit lead over the Beemers, who struggled to catch up!

I got ahead of the Superbird by lap 4. After that it was just lap after lap of me me me...:snooze: I didn't bother to finish the race, to be honest.

Tried another GSer at +8, which provided this:

1). '00 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage coupe
2). '92 Audi RS-6
3). '03 Shelby Series 1
4). '04 Acura HSC
5). '00 Lotus Esprit Sport 350
6). me ('05 Mustang)

This was much better. Got ahead of the faster competition (Shelby, Acura, Lotus) by Lap 2/corner 1...and slipped by the Audi in the esses. While I caught up to the leading Aston, the Acura and Lotus got stuck behind the Audi! Perfect! The Shelby slipped by the Audi at some point. I passed the Aston on Lap 3 into Turn 6 (the hairpin).

From that point on, I led the race until my first pitstop. :D The gap kept growing while the Shelby bottlenecked behind the Aston and the Lotus and Acura got stuck behind the Audi! Finally on lap 5, the Lotus got ahead of the Audi, which means the Acura HSC was in 6th. I wasn't sure how this would turn out.

Long story longer...I managed to play my timing right. Everyone except the Audi was ahead of me after my 1st pit stop, but one by one they had to come in, and I'd beat their positions. finally, the leading Shelby was in the pits. He must have screwed up somewhere because his enormous lead seemed to have been minused drastically.

I just made it! Flew ahead of the Shelby as it came out of the pits on Lap 19 or so. Looked as if I'd win the race, but on the final lap those front tires just couldn't hold on. I was expecting the Lotus or Shelby wuold be on my tail but it was the Acura that got there, oddly!

In the final hairpin, I made a wise decision and let her pass, which really sucks because it meant sacrificing a second or two; but I KNOW the Acura would have punted me, which means I possibly could have lost even more time clambering out of the kitty litter or a spin/slide.

Interesting.

I got the Clio lineup at +5 in ST, and the Esprits/M3s at +5 in GS! One of the Esprits took a dislike to the RS6 Avant going in to the second-last and they ended up taking each other out. Luckily they'd done it in a previous race too, so I was prepared and slipped up the inside...

Wow. Apparently I've picked tyre hungry cars

Imma concentrate on qualifying points then :D

Edit: Also, Parnelli's ST class time doesn't add up. 23 laps with a fastest of 1'43.408 is already 39'38.384...
