Now I spend out abit of time looking at this forum on my laptop and I've had a few things bugging me.
1. Lots of White pixels = Lots of Battery waste
2. At Night it's quite hard on the eyes.

Mabye inverting the forum background and font colour but keeping the banner colours the same would do the trick. I think it would be a welcome edition to the forum Skins.

And nothing stops me spending a few seconds to lower my laptop monitor's brightness at nighttime (Fn + F8).

Agreed. Kicking down the brightness on my laptop is quick and painless. That and I usually use the screen to see the keys when I'm typing anyway ('cause I suck). A darker background would hinder that. As an option, it might not be a bad idea, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Edit: Fn + Down Arrow for me. :p

I also use the screen to see the keyboard but only on those tricky Fn buttons.
My brightness key is Fn+ Left Arrow

That's some attention to detail, right there.

How about one of you Photoshop whizzes modify a screen shot so we can get an idea of what we'd be working with? I'll reserve my vote until I see some options.
 
I've had a 'dark' theme on my to-do list for quite some time now, but other projects always seem to push it to the back burner. There seems to be quite a bit of support for it in this thread, however, so I will give the task higher priority.
 
I might make a screenshot on how it looks like though I don't know if it will come out as expected.
 
On a mac press ctrl+option+cmd+8

Dark forum skins always seem like a good idea but they never seem to work with me on other forums. I find white on black harder to read even though it's technically easier on the eyes. (example ;)) Maybe I just need to get used to it.

Before you spend a lot of time on this, keep in mind that the eventual 'dark' theme will be based upon GTP Lite and will not feature the regular site header.
 
Seeing that the bars are snow flaked, could we change that to like headlights certain car? I should take this to a IM or the PMs.

Oh, yes, I see the snowflakes were still visible in the Default style - they should be gone now. I don't understand your question about 'headlights', but I'm not going to be making any changes to that part of forum style right now.
 
Not my cup of tea, since I find dark colors on light backgrounds quite readable in all conditions. But if enough people want it as an additional skin choice, I suppose it's up to Jordan.

I love the original layout but usually more variety is good once in awhile. Though I am a bit worried if it might take too much space.
 
Now that I see nk4e's ideas, I think a dark theme including dark blues (maybe a super dark blue instead of black for a backgroud?) and maybe even some dark reds to keep the GTP theme going. Right now I'm kind of in a night racing mood, I want it.

OMG, OMG. Maybe an option to "auto-dim" the forum's skin? WHAT!? I believe I just came up with an awesome idea. Set a time and it'll turn to the dark theme automatically at night time.
 
nk4e, looks good.

I personally would love a dark theme, been something I've wanted for a long time. My eyes have an easier time with light fonts on dark back grounds (probably from my DOS days) and my computer is setup with dark themes in mind, for just about everything. Same with other forums I frequent.
 
I remember looking for a dark theme when I first started posting here. It would be nice to have one.
