You could probably do this with a greasemonkey script. Not that I could do it lol, but somebody on here might be able to.
 
Reducing eye-strain is one of the reasons I type in indigo.

And indigo on a black/dark-grey background would become very old, very fast. Still, only 1 in 100 posts are mine... :D
 
A "dark" theme is something I've had on my "someday" list for quite a while, but have never found time to implement it. The implications of maintaining another skin, regardless of its color scheme, is a daunting task that I can't take on at the moment.
 
That's how it works now, I release a new "version" of the site about once per year. :)

I've had some issues with dark webpages and forums before, some are fine but others take time to show text clearly and various colour text people decide to use become hard to read (so I usually highlight text to view). This is probably poor coding or something which I am sure GTP wouldn't suffer from (GTP is the fastest and best designed forum I have ever been to, kudos Jordan) but I am happy how it is now.

Wonder what it will look like next year.

Concerning the darkness, I'm in a relatively dark room reading this, I'm having 0 problems reading text. I don't know how good a darker skin would be.
 
There was a thread for this a while ago. I still think it is a good idea for a "distant future", outside GT5 rush. Something among the lines of the end of the page, colors wise, would be cool (black or dark blue colors can look quite awful).
 
I visit another forum that lets you choose between 5 different skins, light/dark/widescreen etc. it's actually really cool. I'm the type of person that likes to customize my desktop to match my browser, so any type of GTPlanet customization would be awesome.

Maybe this could be a "Premium" selling point.

Is there any chance of getting a skin thats dark in colour. I ask this coz when browsing the forums at night it puts a strain on your eyes coz the page is too bright. i know i can turn down brightness settings but a dark skin would be appreciated.

How about turning on a light at night so that you don't damage your eyes while browsing?

I would turn on the lights but i don't feel the need to plus i like to save money and save the world from global warming haha

But yeah a dark skin would be appreciated alot. Even a standard looking one would do.

You playing on a computer. Arent you damaging the enviroment enough?
 
Why not just turn down your screen brightness in your Windows/Mac Control Panel?
 
To echo my previous comments in this thread, unfortunately a dark skin is not something that I think will be coming anytime soon.
 
I'm assuming it would take a lot of time to create, and that your busy Jordan? It's understandable, still a great site regardless of the layout.
 
Yes, it would require I design and maintain what would effectively be another website.

If you have trouble viewing predominantly white web pages in dark rooms (quite a problem, considering the overwhelming majority of websites feature such a color scheme), I highly recommend installing F.lux on your computer. I swear by it, and I think you'll find everything on your computer screen is significantly easier to look at in low lighting conditions when it is enabled.

There are also very simple features built into Mac OSX and Windows that allow you to invert your screen's colors, and a few Google searches will turn up even more specialized tools like NegativeScreen that will offer you much more comfort and utility than a dark, custom GTPlanet style ever could.
 
I would like a dark theme(cause my windows theme is black and I love the color black), but I can still read everything of this site.

If you have issues reading things off a white background I would recommend you see your optometrist to see what s/he can do for you.

Plus this means you will have issues navigating around windows unless you have "High Contrast Mode" enabled.

Errrrrr i think it takes more energy to boot up the PC then to run it 👍

Dont wanna turn this into a global warming thread so lets keep to the point :p
