Ok had a quick search and found nothing on this.

So without chat we're all having trouble communicating with one another. I thought maybe we could have a set of signals which have simple meanings, nothing complicated, that we can do mid-race to tell fellow 'GTPers' whatever needs telling depending on the situation.

E.g. I dab the brakes on the straights (just enough so the lights come on) to signal someone to pass me, so they know i won't do anything drastic to stop them, its a better way then actually slowing as less time is lost and the two drivers can stay together, and very very useful if many other cars are near so only one spot is dropped by the front car. The same thing can also be performed to signal early braking.

You get the idea, so i'll begin a list of thing like this. Obviously its difficult for the following car to signal, but then again the lead car is generally controlling the pace and its up to the follower to make the correct judgements such as when/if to pass.

Signal - Meaning (X represent lead car, Y represents following)
Flashing brake lights from X to Y - car Y is to overtake X with no resistance encountered

Consistent brake lights (on for more then 2 seconds in an inappropriate area for braking e.g. just after exiting a corner into a straight) from X - do NOT attempt an overtake for whatever reason e.g. to much dangerous traffic e.g. punters or because a slower car is infront halting car X from progressing.

X handbrakes slightly to release smoke in Ys direction - simply means thank you for whatever reason it may be :)

Any more ideas? and comments whether its worth us all picking these up.

Great idea but won't people just mess around with them? Because of all the rammers etc.

Maybe you could have a symbol which means 'thanks'. That could be a simple and easy two flashes of the light. So if a player lets you past, you have a way of saying thanks to them.

How about PD give us the ability to text chat, like how people did it in the 80's.

I am not trying to discredit you trying to think of ways to communicate with each other in game, but the fact that us users have to go to these extreme and kind of sad measures to communicate with each other in game is, for a lack of a better word, pathetic.

i agree with pepsi these guys will just continue to ram each other wich doesnt cure the problem. if they wood just let the headsets work online it wood be alot better

Great idea! Implementation will be the issue .. for me its hard enough right now just to race and watch everyone around me. I don't even touch the chat during a race because I can't type and drive at the same time. I've been using this effectively:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=106514&highlight=ventrilo

You need to have a PC/Laptop close to where you race and you have to hold down the left Ctrl key to talk. I can use it in race on a straight but its still not completely perfect. If I could tie the talk button to something on my wheel then I'd be golden.

Basically, we just need an in-game voice chat and would be even cooler if we could get the PS Eye working so you could send your buddy a pic after you blow by him. ;)

I was trying to be positive and just think about more friend to friend (or GTP to GTP) communication, ignoring randomers and letting them do whatever, they won't know what the signals mean, those who have the time to read this thread, are likely honest people.

I already use the quick double flash of brake lights to say thanks/sorry to people and let them past or to warn them Im going to be braking early (sometimes I brake early to take a different line around corners).

When someone accidentally punts me and waits for me, when they let me pass again, I touch the handbrake slightly to release a small amount of tire smoke to thank him for the gesture.
Whoever here raced me and saw that, I think they know what it means. 👍

We'll add that one to the list, seems appropriate enough. We only need a few really :)

How about if somebody punts you you get out at the next set of lights and drag him out the car and punch his lights out.

Oh sorry wrong game.

:-)

Ha Ha Ha this is the best most desperate thread I have seen on here yet. PD needs to see this thread and understand how bad its getting. Its time for voice chat and private rooms. People are just going nuts ha ha ha this thread is just to much ha ha ha.

How about a blinker to let them know Im going to take the left turn up ahead? HA HA HA HA.

I do however hope they have front lights the you can blink on and off that would be cool.

I'm not desperate, but i know some people are to communicate.

Sorry for trying i guess...

And watch the double posting.

Use our chat. Communicating during a race is impossible, of course, but the chat lets us clear up misunderstandings and give thanks for good driving. As far as I know, the chat is the best way to communicate.

I haven't seen you there in a while, Dragonistic. You should drop in sometime and race with us again.

No its just funny that you want all this complicated stuff like the guy in the "earn the right to race" thread. When if we just had voice chat and pvt rooms we wouldnt have to go through all this.

And watch the forum nazism

easy way to fix it would be to just add voice com texting is ok aslong as u have a keyboard close by or a quick chat button bit like pes 2008

Yes but WE can't add that stuff, PD can. So no use telling us the same thing 'we need voice chat', the chatroom works to an extent but mid race its difficult for most without a huge straight.

Please no more useless comments about voice chat and other things we have no control of, they belong elsewhere

Voice chat is better than text so you can talk while driving and for the fact that it is less distracting(unless someone swears).

Yeah there will be no good practical ideas in my thread, Only dumb ones that no one will use.

Dude you offered your point people are coming up with a counter point. Thats what a forum is all about a free disscusion on a topic.

OK give up on the " voice chat " as it will get here when it gets here.:indiff:
Now the problem I have been running into is being able to tell who wants the bump draft or not. Maybe if the person wants it, they do nothing, if they DON'T, move over ONCE. This will allow car Y to draft pass car X.:)

Hopefully PD will implement voice chat and also some form of quick chat (selecting from a list of things to say). Perhaps clicking in the mushroom could bring up the menu etc.

You definitely don't want to be on the Ventrilo then - for those who don't know Chad was a sailor in his previous life - TRUST ME! ;)

In my humble opinion it would do if PD could make a hands up signal by the driver inside. Maybe difficult to see in a game.
But in real life on a trackday it could be a difference .

Very often on the HSR I will move over if I see someone behind me that I know who has more speed than me that I would prefer not to have transferred to my vehicle. ;)

Way too often I get bumped when I try to pass someone but when they pass me I just let them go. The worst is a guy who tries to pass but first feels the need to tap your back end and spin you out before he moves along. That's when I want the James Bond Beemer with machine guns on the front and oil & tire spike drops on the rear.

we have a teamspeak server up most nights for gtp drivers from 9.30gmt which we use to chat its the best and only way at the moment...

drop by our forum and get the details and everyone on here is free to join our chat and race :-)

I wish they address this communication/private room problem. I really do not like people being rough. It just makes me not wan't to play any more untill they make private rooms!! Sometimes people hit me and I just shut the whole system off completely and walk away.

ok I will add you to my list of drivers not to bump but feel free to draft off of me anytime as I don't block:)
