What Time Works Best for Racing

  • Poll closed .
If we put this on another day, I think more interest would be shown. Just get in contact with the weeknight series guys and see when they think another race series with the same cars would interest them.

Taking a series with a diluted field, and then splitting it into two diluted fields in two classes is a well-meaning but nonsense idea.

I have repeatedly lobbied to simplify the series.
  • Eliminate complicated signups or maintaining a driver roster. You show up first-come-first serve. You place in the points, you get driver champ points. Simple.
  • Lower the HP to make the cars more drivable. LMP cars are too finnicky for many GTP racers. If you want more participation, make the cars easier to drive. 500-600 HP.
  • This can never be a spec series, but we can encourage the competitiveness of one with ballast (see below)
  • Discourage and shame quitting mid-race. Severe point penalties for drivers who ragequit. No one wants to race with you if you do that. It de-motivates everyone in the series and kills morale.
  • Find drivers from other PS3 racing forums. The GTP online driver pool seems to be more fans of spec sedan racing.
  • Separate the series from GTP entirely, possibly. People use the forum like an office break room. They kind of drift in and out of different series and don't commit. Separate, stand-alone league site to encourage signing up and a better, small driver community.

Finally, drivers need to be separated into 3 classes when joining a race each week:

Class A: Top 3 drivers in points, get the same amount of ballast in weight.

Class B: 4th and 5th in ponits, get less ballast in weight.

Class C: everyone below 5th in points receives no ballast.

Simple, and adds that more-even racing that appeals to the guys who love spec series.

It seems that all established GTP series struggle to make it past a fifth season. FOr us, series six isn't taking off and it is the exact same for DTM with their 6th season.

Also, I want high power LMP cars. We are here to race LMP cars because that is what we enjoy driving. Why do we need to lower the HP to accomadate for drivers whose practice entails a hot lap in qualifying or two and then spends the entire race complaining that the car is too powerful. Seriously, we need to think about this here.

There is ONE series that uses cars more "difficult" than LMPs, last time I checked (the FGT series) and they use traction control, auto gears, ASM, and the much scoffed-at Skid Recovery.

LMP cars are great, but one only needs to look at the distribution of series on here between car classes to see that the demand is for moderate difficulty, not hard difficulty, and for close, competitive racing. The interest is low for high-class racing.

Or, this series could just go on indefinite hiatus if the interest isn't there, which seems to be the case.

I know BK wanted to move it away from GTP - but moving it to a half-dead (or half-living) FPS dedicated forum doesn't make much sense either.

Tbh, Thermite and his buddy wasn't GTP guys when they joined the series, so it isn't entirely GTP guys.
Besides, most of the GTP guys on here are the "pros" as they like to call themselves, that race with completely even cars and where the abuse of non-realistic tuning tricks is deciding, while being alien-fast drivers too. We have Jamman and had Mav, that should be enough.
--

Another idea: Scrap the series, host short races for fun - just like you did in the beginning, BK. As we've seen in S5 and partly in S4 too, there's no interest in winning a championship anyway. We all know each other so there's no real point in it anymore, Jamman is the fastest, period. Then everyone else gets to fight for the secondary positions - and about not being the last guy to cross the finish line.

Anyone can be beaten. So being the fastest is nice and all, but anything can happen during the race. REAL LMP1's have around 550-600hp. REAL LMP1's tires last for much longer than the tires on GT5. If we have cars based around 600hp for the slower ones, and about 570hp for cars like the Toyota, tire life will be longer, and the cars will still be fast as hell. 900kg and 600hp with the downforce these cars make will be a blast. They'll only be a second or two slower than we have them now with 680hp, but the tires will last at least 2 laps more.

I also don't think there is enough demonstrated interest for a championship out there, at least for the moment.

A weekend meet-up at Circuit de la Sarthe every two weeks or once a month or something would be really awesome.

I'm down for a couple short races (5-8 laps) on various tracks (including ones we usually don't race at)

^ I'm tired of you winning all the time ? ?

There doesnt seem to be enough interest to start a season with 16 drivers.

I thought you guys wanted sundays vs saturdays, or at least thats what i thought from reading the S5 thread.
I can make some saturdays, but ill never make a sunday race. ( i work sundays)

I havent moved to a new forum or anything....... just lost some interest in GT5. Also i troll around on lots of forums, just the ID_ one is run by the same guys i've played with since i got a PS2 & I've always been a member - just trying to build up a racing section there.

LMP2's in Gogatrs ALMS series are super fun. You can actually race others for more than 3 laps.

brilliant. So this poll is multi choice too. And guess what I did....

And why can't we run 800 BHP again?

No offence Mike but that's a silly idea. The ballast thing doesn't make sense as it would just be unfair. One guy has a bad race and has less/no ballast. It could mean someone fast in a fast car with little ballast for the next race. -_-

Let's start the damn series already...

Tire wear is whack, with hp so high it ruins the fun. You cant do 6 laps anymore. I'm debating running in this series, or just concentrating on my RB X2010 series.

Where are all the series regulars? Jake, Drum, Razor etc? That's who I'm most surprised at not seeing here.

Also golfer, you've made another fail series, congratulations. 6 of them now

Haven't seen Jake in a while. I raced with Vegas earlier for a few, but he never talks. Probably has social issues.

I don't think so, but he's very eager to drive as I see it. You can get him to say something, I have, but not much.
OR it could be that he always is chatting with other people while driving ;)

They all brought Skyrim. Mwhahahahahahaha DOVAKHIN!!!! FUS RO DAH!!!!!!

And Seb, my newest series will be awesome. People joined without me begging them. And is it really six? Lets count, Tyre Challenge, RallyCross, NASCAR, LMS. Thats four and the ROC wasn't a series.

but he never talks. Probably has social issues.

You could be describing Seb

I don't care if vegas talks to me, he's never been much of a talker. He aint my friend so it don't matter much. Just get a weird impression from the guy.

Oh and Golfers series looks to have more interest than mine at the moment. Help me change that!

That is because, well I don't know. I would of joined your series but you are limiting the BHP to around 700bhp. That is fine in an LMP race but in X2010s? The cars are mad fast as they are. Don't slow them down. Give a full 1500!!!

You can't drive them at 1500hp, it's insane. I'm not limiting them to 700hp, they don't go that low. More like 800hp with race hards.

They are easy to drive at 1500 BHP. You just need to know how to play the game. Yeah you get mistakes at first but me, I am the champ at top level X2010/11 racing. Try me. Top power. Any track.

Where does this comment come from? You need to know how to play the game? So those who don't want to drive the X1 at 1500hp and take corners like they're on a slot car while going 300mph according to you, don't know how to play the game? This is why you have no friends.
