It's time to start thinking about the GTP Magazine! Basically, it's going to be a blog, updated daily (or more) by a team of editors. Each editor will be responsible for an article on their designated day of the week, with a schedule so that at least one new article is posted each day. They won't be limited to the number of articles they can post, as long as they post at least one on their assigned day.

The topics will include all the things that we're collectivily interested in here, as proved by the most popular areas of our forums and by your feedback in this thread. So, what types of subjects would you like to read about each week? I'll throw out a few here, but this magazine is for you, the community, and I want it to be what you want it to be. So, join the discussion and share your ideas. :)

To get things started:
  • Gran Turismo News
  • GTP OLR Events/Site News & Gossip
  • The Auto Industry
  • International Motorsports
  • The Gaming Industry
  • Computers & Electronics
  • Political Opinions/Current Events
  • Movies, TV, and Music
(More details regarding editor selection will be released later. Any questions regarding editorship will be ignored.)

I'd say no to Political Opinions/Current Events. There are a lot of potentially divisive topic that might not sit well with some members. It's probably enough to have it as a Forum Area, and nothing more.

Would OLR and Site news/gossip be combined, as you show?

That's a bit odd. The two arn't related at all. OLR gossip is a bit different than Rumble Strip gossip :p.

I agree with niky on the Current Events section. That would just show an editor's opinion, when in the forum all sides would be shown equally.

I still cannot believe the soul of M5Power's news ticker is still alive.
This would be it's third form, and based on the same ideas.

I'd agree, because it might get a little hot and argumentative. Plus, there's no authority on politics, since it's based heavily on opinion, and someone's going to complain there's too much "this-side" bias, and that other leanings might get ignored.

Althought there's a lot of political issues that could and do affect things like gasoline, import/exporting, road-building, registration taxing, and other auto-related policies, there's not a lot of reason to discuss the issues, since there's not much debate on the subject even with the politically-divided crowd of gearheads at this forum.

Basically, there's a forum sectioned off for opinions and politics (which usually turned into name-calling and mud slinging, anyhow). No need to push any more buttons, I feel.

I do think an area that talks a bit about driving expereinces and local and/or fun roadways might be helpful for those of us who like to travel by car and share stories (more than just "Some dumb idiot just cut me off!").

All very good points, everyone, keep them coming. About combinations, no they won't be combined.

That's a pretty good idea. Also a section with driving tips would be cool. Things that would help you improve your driving in real life. How to launch, racing lines, etc.

All for track use, of course. (Although alot of topics can help you on the road, aswell)
Basicly, how to apply GT4 logic to real life, without killing yourself or the car in the process :)

I agree, publishing a certain persons view on political issues in the GTP magazine would make it seem like this is the overwhelming opinion of GTP as a whole, and this could create other issues IMO.

This is a nice idea, there could be some good articles stemming from this.

Yeah, you need all the help you can get before you take on Fred. ;)

International motorsports is an interesting category. How international should it be? Should we have articles on sports like V8 Supercars, and Brazilian Stock cars? Or should it only be motorsports that are followed all over the world (A1GP, F1 etc.)?

I would love to see a Political section in the mag.

Yeah, but not if Zardoz or I were editing it. That's why I'm against it. I personally wouldn't want to be accused of using GTP to shove my own opinion of what's true or what's important down anyone else's throat. No matter who edits it, someone will get ticked off. :) It's better to keep the piss and vinegar where it belongs, down in the Forums.

The closest thing to Politics that's safe to feature are factual articles regarding the oil industry, alternative power, and the like which directly affect motoring, as well as traffic laws (traffic cameras, fines, and the like)... nothing else.

As for Road Stories, that would be nice. Be real easy for the editor, as I'm sure a lot of us would like to share one thing or another. 👍

Driving Tips, yes. 👍

International Motorsports might be difficult, unless there's a regular reporters from each region to give updates on events and results. What if, for stuff like the Brazilian V8s, you put in something like a feature article instead of current results?

For the Movies and TV section I think there needs to be a strict 'No Spoilers' policy.

North America gets a lot of movies and TV Shows before the rest of the world, and I don't think any fan would want to read that "so-and-so dying in last-night's episode was really sad and unexpected"...

Other than this, it all looks good to me. I can't wait for Issue 1! :)

Perhaps someone could draw a GTP-exclusive web comic once a week or so. I don't know what it would be about - maybe something like Hsu and Chan or Penny Arcade - but I do enjoy comics, and I also enjoy GTP, so the combination would be exquisite.

this may be partially what was intended for the site news/gossip, but:

What about interviews with different GTP forum members? I mean, it is the GTP Magazine.
This place has enough interesting [dare I say eccentric] personalities floating in and out to leave their mark on a daily basis that I'm sure it could make for some entertaining reading, given a decent writer.

A birthday section just so we can finally get them out of the Rumble Strip.

Now that would rule, with guest appearences from members of GTP!

Good idea! 👍

I enjoyed reading the interview with Jordan in the GTP Insider, and would like a similar interview again and to read about other members as well.

I support this idea!

Would it be feasible to have a 'GTP Art' or feature, perhaps showcasing some of the best photomode/photoshop work of the month?

This might sound stupid. The automotive news is the bit that excites me the most. I was just thinking how much motoring culture differs around the world in terms of the type of cars being sold in different countries. So, how about dividing the automotive news into different categories. One for say America and Canada, written by someone perhaps living in that area, and the other for European car news, and so on and so forth. Just a thought.

How about constructing the articles from 'news' gathered in the forums?

Perhaps the editors could hand-pick the best information posted by others - this would be a much quicker route, meaning the 'magazine' will hopefully not just start out strongly then become increasingly weaker as people get sick and tired of trying to find new content.

Plenty of members post info from reliable sources - perhaps the magazine could include hyperlinks to the GTP threads where they originated, so people can read the article then post comments in threads that they didn't know existed before.

I would still like to see a GTP podcast. Can that be included with the mag too?

I missed this before, it’s a very interesting idea and I think it could definatly make an entertaining read.

Jordan, have you given any more thought to the magazine (when it will be launched, etc.)?

Perhaps in the place of Political Opinions, you could still have a World News Section. The GTPlanet community, as everyone knows, is international and some news from around the world should be interesting reading.

Just a thought...

It's still coming, but as you can probably tell I haven't been around much (I'm drowning in real-world obligations). There is no date, but please keep the ideas coming!

👍 Hey this is a great idea, but I have one question. Is the list of people who can edit the magazine closed or can anyone in the GTP community contribute to it? Basically, will there be opportunities for us all to add a little something to the magazine?

No, only chosen editors will be able to contribute.

For the politcal/opinions section of the mag, why not have one topic, and put two different arguments (for/against, right/wrong etc.) which would be be written by two different users.

Would it be possible for competition where users to submit articles and the winner gets their article in the next issue and they'll win a prize, like a free month of Premium?

I think "Maclaren_man"'s idea of having a weekly member should be included in the mag, you know as far as "interviewing members", I think it's just better have everybody to ask questions to the weekly member and that's how we can get to know eachother fairly easier 👍 and if Jordan's plans to release the magazine every week, it would work out just fine ;)

A good thing to do for the editors would be to omit all the odd and unnecessary questions from part of some immature members and include more smart and interesting questions that might require some thought from the weekly member to answer them.

Ciao...

I agree, Mr.OzzyGT. Those “odd and unnecessary questions” seem to be killing a very good concept, in my opinion.

a game guides page of the month would be cool, and at the end of the year, draw a page out of the last 11-12 months, and call it page of the year, totally new concept, isn't it.
