As today's GTP news post regarding the release date was made, I thought to make this thread in order to prevent people from spamming the forums with false release threads and info, I have decided to make this thread, just dedicated to the current release date. Please do not worry, I will update this thread with a release date as soon as it is announced. Mods are welcome to edit this thread freely.

Every time Jordan puts something up on the homepage, we get piggyback threads like this.

The second a confirmed release date is announced, it will be on the news page. Then you can update your thread.
Not being an arse, just realistic...

Doesn't mean it was a good idea back then either. People get overly excited to easily, and just create threads without really thinking it through, never asking "does this thread really contribute something useful to the forum?"
 
You could turn this thread into some type of "guess the release date" thread. Put a poll with some options maybe. (ex: PS3 or PS4?) It might be fun to speculate rather than making something official that isn't official. I mean thats all that anyone could post in this thread anyway. Just a suggestion...
 
Its a good idea if stickied as I remember countless 'website X says GT5 will be out...' threads in the GT5 section, mostly from new members less familiar with the way things work. Not saying it will put an end to it but it may reduce unwanted threads.

That's what I'm aiming to do with this thread. See, since almost everyone in this thread wasn't here before the release of GT5, they don't know what I'm talking about.

See, before GT5 came out, Gtplanet had an issue where people made up random release dates that they had somewhat legitimately found (Gamestop ad etc.) and they kept spamming the forums with them. And for those special people, we had the thread of Shame, where we posted their names, because they posted false release dates. In order to prevent this, Famine created a thread just like this to attempt to reduce the number of false threads and posts. That thread was stickied and maintained by Famine, his highness.

Its purpose is to inform people of whether there is a release date or not for GT6 and if so, when it is, as confirmed by Sony/PD. Simple enough for most people but it should help to stop people being mislead by what some websites pluck out of thin air.

Exactly, I don't see why the lack of a release date would make this thread pointless. TBA or not, good to know.

Yes, it would give you a release date. I don't need a thread to tell me no date has been given, the lack of a release date thread would have the same effect.

Not the mention we have at LEAST a year before we see anything. This thread's just gonna get lost in all the other threads and someone else is gonna come around and make a new one. Its WAY too early for this.

To be fair, nothing really indicates that we're gonna have to wait at least a YEAR, before we hear anything. For all we know, we might hear something tomorrow. Sure, it's unlikely, but it isn't impossible. If yeah, what would indicate it? The only thing we know is that they've been working on it immediately after GT5, which is late 2010.
 
We will all hear about the release date when its announced, until then its all just pie in the sky. Is there really a need for a guess the release date thread? We don't even know if its going to be on the ps3 yet

But how is a thread that says TBA going to prevent that? If someone reads this thread and sees that then finds a date somewhere else what's stopping them thinking the info they've found is more up to date than yours?

That's why we need this thread to be complimented with the list of shame. Also, it this thread will deter people from doing that, because this is the official release date, without any false release dates that you may find. Gamestop last year had a false release date that people took pictures of, only to find out that it wasn't the actual date.
