GTP WTAC Week 40 : Easyasashii's Rally

*** I normally put info on the cars in this space, but this time I'd like to make a quick mention of our friend and longtime host, easyasashii. He was holding his own Time Trial events at the French official Playstation forums when he found us at GT Planet in the midst of our 2nd season hosted by Shigegaki (technically this was the third season as we had seasons 1 and 1.5 previously) . He not only brought over himself and the uber-fast racer, Pitch... but a strong desired to compete and help the events here grow. They, both he and Pitch, competed in the 3rd season now hosted by continual champion, Glubags. After that season ended and Glubags announced that he'd no longer be able to host, easyasashii stepped up to the plate and put in a herculean effort to assemble the series we now call the WTAC. He even went so far as to assemble a leaderboard webpage with all the times of the TAC/WTAC events. His dedication was something that nobody could ever question. The current cars in this challenge were one of the two combos that he personally choose (the other being the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C2) Race Car '63 & the Shelby Cobra 427 '66) before he unexpectedly left the WTAC due to an emergency. We all hope he is OK and just wish that, one day if he so chooses, he'll be able to rejoin us here at GT Planet. We miss you, easy! ***

Thanks guys. I really appreciate and it actually did cheer me up a little... I'm still pretty crushed by what happened and hope to see the end of the tunnel pretty soon. I don't want to ruin your day with my sad words so just know that your messages did cheer me up ! Thanks !

Have fun and when I'll be back, you'll know it ;)

PS : I'm considering updating the website this weekend...

We're here for you. Take your time and attend to your family. We aren't going anywhere...

:)

Oh my! I was just about thinking about the track. My guess was right!! I think this is the hardest rally track in GTPSP in my honest opinion. Though it doesn't say yet which layout. FWD or RVR??

I did miss that! Normally, everyone chooses the forward layouts first... so, in that case, we'll go with reverse first!

:P

I'm gonna dedicate this challenge for Easyasashii!! ROCK ON!!!

Thanks ! Actually, since you are very fast on rally track, last December Detroitbb and I thought about having a rally WTAC... for you ;) ! Cathedral Rocks Trail I was the track I tested these cars but since it was used at Week 36, Detroitbb chose a pretty tough one : Chamonix !!!

I don't know if I'll be able to run for this week but I sure will try !

Good luck all and have fun !

My main problems with Chamonix are:
1) Snow and Tarmac color mix ups. Visually I'm having trouble as to how I see the track. Really hard to see which driving line is best.
2) Hairpins with does not show where the banking starts and ends. Again familiarity with the track is key here. Regardless of which car is chosen.
3) Its on ICE!!!

Track info updated (added which layout we'll be using).

Good luck to everyone!

Thanks! Hopefully I can start this challenge on Thursday and get some clean laps. Its a busy week.

This is my first time on a snow track and yes, it's slippery as hell. All I could manage in the Evo until now is 2'32.6xx.

:) I just had one of those ''Oh, now I get it'' moments! :)

Evo - 2'28.7xx
Escort - 2'25.9xx

Now the snow has become fun!

OMG !!! "Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR '99" !!! Ooops my bad ! I mispelled the car's name ... it should have been "Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Rally Car '99" on my list -like the one I tested !!!- ! I was wondering why in the OP the car wasn't red !

I'm so sorry guys !

Should we keep on with this car, is it too late to change or it doesn't matter ?

I say we keep it since the challenge is already currently happening and some people might not have time to buy the rally version. But I'm OK with changing cars if others would like it to happen!

I would like to thank Detroitbb for having opened the door about changing the car and I want to apology to you all to put you in a difficult position. I'm so sorry guys for my dummy mistake -and I was the one who kept remind people to write carefully the cars' name !!!... shame on me :ill: !-

I vote we change the car too however, as Detroitbb said, the challenge is already on and for some of us who aren't lucky to have the rally version -quite expensive-, it would be a clear disadvantage for them -need time and money to buy it first whereas we run for the challenge...- !

So, what I propose is if everyone who's competing is ok with changing the car, we go for it, BUT if only one of us can't -no time, no money, etc.- we keep the GSR !

Ok with that ?

Challenge will be officially 2 rally cars on a rally track. That's fine with me as I haven't run the challenge yet. I do have the Lan Evo Vi Rally Car '99, way way before I joined WTAC, so that's ok with me too. It would be nice to see Tommi Makinen's car here! 👍👍 you have my vote too!
Just to be sure, I'll be running the Escort and the 2 Lan Evos.

I don't mind with car to choose, the stock or the rally version. I have both so it's no problem for me.

We had a problem with Ice Arena in the Bluebird challenge - the walls doesn't create sparks when you hit it. Has anyone checked if the snow walls can create sparks or not?

Yeah, no sparks at all (even on the metal barriers). But you can still notice most of the time when a car hits something. Does anyone have a suggestion on what we should do?

I also just noticed that there's no sparks. However, it's pretty easy to realize that you hit the wall while driving and even more obvious in the replay. Why don't we make it that if your car changes direction unexpectedly near the barrier then you should consider it as sparks.

What's the rules with the tarmac section, is it ok to go onto the snow? I noticed that PD placed rocks in strategic places on some of the corners so it's not really possible to take shots-cuts.

That sounds good. We all pretty much know when we've hit a wall.

Going into the snow is OK.

Hi guys,
Sorry I haven't been online for awhile, I've been quite busy and now with the big earthquake in christchurch I haven't had the time to post my times or even play my PSP.
I will try and post some times for next weeks challenge.
Cheers,

👍

^ I hope everything will get better soon in Christchurch...

As promised, I updated the website's Leaderboards and Garage (I was out from week 33, I missed 6 weeks events...), I haven't run yet, I'll run this weekend.

While updating the Garage, I saw some interesting facts :

- 141 combos have been run
- 120 different cars
- 45 different dealerships !

--------------------------

Most dealerships'cars used :
1. Nissan -16 times -
2. Toyota - 15 times -
3. Honda - 11 times -

But
1. Nissan 11 different cars
= 1. Toyota 11 different cars
3. Honda 9 different cars

-------------------------

:gtpflag:

Haven't really been able to play this week, I had a test today and another one tomorrow, and I have a third on monday. Marks are extremely important right now, because they get submitted to universities at midterm, in around April. I also have a university interview on Tuesday, so I have to prepare for that as well, and finish some supplementary applications.

I'll hopefully be racing with you guys next week, that is if I can buy the cars involved by then and I can find some time.
