Just save you replay on a usb whenever you made a laptime and bring it to the campus with you. If Sphinx requests a replay you'll always have it on hand that way ;)

That would work.:sly: Then I should not forget to do that with my best lap.:)

Quick question about that small competition. Why the F430? It's a good car, but I drive more of MID range sports cars then super cars. Guys like me might be good race worthy for slower cars but not super cars (all pro-Physics tho) I was prating with this car today, and seems it's going to take me a while to get a nice time.

*back to practice*

Unfortunately the car choice isn't going to suit everyone, but lets be honest the f430 is a good choice even if some people don't like it. Its a rearwheel drive so its not really fogiving but at the same time its well balanced and with the slight downforce it creates it is also very stable making it a fairly easy rwd to drive. This helps accomodate for eveyone. Don't forget this isn't just a qualifier for the fastest driver is it? There will be drivers competing who normally compete in standard physics mode, or people who self admittedly just aren't all that amazing at driving. Can you imagine giving them a tricky FR car to do the qualifyer in? For them it would be more about keeping it on the road than doing fast laps. Thats not exactly fair is it.

So all I am trying to say is the car choice is to help accomodate for alll drivers without making it too easy. Now if your not happy with the car well I can understand, certain cars just don't suit certain peoples driving styles. For me its a shame that this competition had to take place on a time trial (which I am usesless at in comparision to acctually racing) and if that means I am in a lower devision than I wanted then I am going to have to get over it because afterall you can be promoted if you show you are faster when we get the real racing, but at the moment a time trail is the best way to sort out devisions. The exact same thing can be said about the car choice if you don't like the car and it puts you in a lower devision then you are just going to have to get over it I am afraid.

Now I am not having a go at people I just wanted to make this very clear about the car. The choice car for this event has been made and it isn't going to change. If people could please simpley leave it at that and not go on about it any further :).

;)

Dont worry mods this isnt a thread about lap times, just need to clear some things up and get peoples views.

From what I take from this qualifer, is that GTP members will be split up into different groups depending on their lap times on one track. I have a couple of views on this that may affect future races / events.

1. From doing these lap times and putting us in these groups, is already limiting the number of races we can have with members. I get the impression that you only race with the people in your 'skill group' and nobody else. I enjoy racing with faster and slower racers. Faster as you learn more about lines, braking points, overtaking spots. Slower as it is fun to overtake and also to give them help etc.

2. Big egos and GTP division. From these times there is going to be 'I am better than you' type threads, people thinking they are better than others etc.

3. I thought the GTP tag was about clean racing and not whos fastest. Why kick people out if they dont submit a time?

4. I know members off here who hate / arent very good at time trails. Infact they dont like the races on this new update and hate doing time trails they have stopped playing GT until the next update. Some didnt even bother trying with the GT Acadmey as they hated time trails.

5. Say we are put into these groups. I am put in with people not in my time zone, arent very active members, then I will suffer as my racing wont be as active as it is linking with the chat.

Yes I can see the positives about the closer racing, but to me the negatives outway the positives by far to much...

What does everyone else think?

Jack

1. If you look at the history of the WRS you'll see many events where all 3 divisions raced together under a handicap system, with an integrated results board. I imagine a similar system could be devised for the future of GT online as and when necessary 👍
In any case, the concept of divisions is a sound one which allows people to race with achievable goals - it could be depressing to see your rival pull a 5 second lead on you every lap...

2. As Sphinx said, I've hardly ever seen a single post like that, let alone a thread - I can't see anyone of the current crop behaving like that either.

3. The qualifier is a condition of entering official GTP competitions. Everyone has to run a qualifier for the WRS too. I think it's perfectly reasonable, and I can't think of a reason to refuse. There's no minimum time - everyone who runs it clean is admitted...

4. Time Trials are an integral part of racing, both online and in the "real world" (whatever that is!). If you're not so good at them, you probably won't do so well in those events. If you're amazing in races but submitted a poor qualifying run you might stand a chance of promotion.

5. I hadn't considered that really, but then this whole thing will need a bit of time to settle down I'm sure, and then we'll see where the land lies with this, and all the above issues! I'm sure tweaks will be made - these things aren't run with the sort of rigidity that some people seem to imagine.

And PASM89, you don't need to worry about minor issues like this - just note your problem and you will almost certainly be accomodated if and when the time comes. 👍

Anyone who's overly worried about how this will affect their online experience should spend a little time going through the WRS archive and their fears will probably disappear very soon - it's a fantastic, fiercely competitive but totally respectful contest which runs like a dream, and has done under several excellent mods. Thanks to them all for that, and especially to Sphinx who takes us into a new era

That's how I see it in any case...

Jack, it might be easier to understand how this competition will work if you check the GT4 Weekly Race Series (WRS) thread. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=117 If you check out the Archives and read a couple threads, you will get a better idea how everyone interacts and how the system works.

You will find that the qualifier and resulting Division placement isn't some kind of end-all, where everyone heads off to their respective groups, never to mingle again. For TT-based racing, the different groups add variety to what would otherwise just be a big list of split and lap times. I'm certain whatever form these events take they will keep in the spirit of the WRS, with the added bonus of actual racing as opposed to mostly TT's.

I'm really looking forward to this competition, but I think the grief Sphinx is getting over the small details is ridiculous. Some people need to loosen up their bum holes a little, and let the guy get on with the job.

keep up the good work Sphinx!

QFT 👍

Wow a lot of complaining about this new Div and car choice etc,
From what i understand GTP_tag members are part of a GT5 team??? Do your best for the team and set a time to put yourself in a level you feel you are happy with.

The Divisions are great idea, its done all the time in Pro Race teams, It helps motivate lower racers to improve to get to the next level, in most cases the Pro team ie Div1 would have about 15 to 20 best racers max, Div2 have about 30 to 40 members, Div3 50 to 60 members and maybe more div as the team is real biggggg, hence why i think they will be kicking ppl from the registry who no longer take part in events, but im not sure how the Div will be, how many div there will be and the amount of members in each Div, but thats just what im use to from other race team and it work well so just relax do your best all and watch how this will all pan out for the best.
I really cannot see anything wrong with what Sphnix/others are doing to set this up.

...I'd imagine that, like the WRS, divisions are not immutable. If a driver consistently shows form above or below his/her division, they may be promoted or relegated.

Ok yeah that should work, however I think there should be more than one Official Division Manager (The GTP Member that decides who is promoted or relegated in Division). Also if someone wishes to be promoted...or relegated:D they could PM the Division Manager to setup a Divisions qualify Race with the group they think they are capable of joining.👍

why are people worried, its all fun and enjoy.
reconised 27 names in the top 100 from this board, weldone to all.

also are GTRP doing something like this aswell.

I have a quick question - I noted in the rules that I'm not permitted to use the clutch on my G25. I have no problem with the rule, as I use paddles on the F430 and would obey the rule even were I rowing the gears by hand. I was just wondering what the reason for the rule was. :D

I'm having trouble keeping the F430 from losing control. :(

How do you guys save a single best lap replay? I only get the option to "Save Replay" or "Save Ghost Replay"...?

Just wanted to introduce myself, I just registered but i've been reading the forums for a while now. I'm from Peru and I really like the idea of having a way to race with clean racers after all the punting I've been put through. I'll be creating my GTP account so I see you guys online soon!

PS: Anyone else from South America? =)

As Sphinx stated on the qualy thread:

Viewing your T1 & T2 Lap Time Splits:

You need to make sure you save the 'Save Best Lap Replay' (ghost replay), not the 'Save Replay'.
To view you best lap replay, go to 'My Page' and watch the replay from there using the 'Replay' option.

EDIT:

furikake, Welcome!!

Can i send my time what was driven with my normal PSN ID, or shall i drive a new time with the GTP_ PSN ID?

When did you get your GTP tag? I think that it would be ok and if not Sphinx might ask you to redo it. But may I suggest that you use your GTP tag from now on.:)

What do you think GTP_DOINK?

Noticed the PM this morning, i'll just re do it easyer that way

Out of interest, since Sphinx has already said instructions will be given, how do I actually go about taking my replay from the ps3 and sending it to someone?

1. Save your replay in the normal way
2. Quit game
3. Insert a USB Storage Device
4. Using the XMB, select game, select Saved Data Ultity
5. Scroll down to your Replay
6. Press triangle & select copy
7. Select the destination for the copy of your replay (USB Storage Device)
8. Copy it
9. Email the replay from your USB Storage Device

Sounds a lot, but it is pretty easy.

:)

EDIT:

Save your replay using "save best lap replay" / "save ghost lap"

To be clear about this:

Save best lap replay button:

Sphinx is the dedicated - in more than just one sense of the word - GTPlanet Moderator for Online Racing. I can't think of anyone better placed for the responsibility.

So that EVERYONE is doing this in exactly the same conditions, nobody has advantage from using the clutch.

I'm having trouble keeping the F430 from losing control. I'm about 12 seconds off the leaders. :(
Discussing times in any way, shape or form is strictly prohibited.

How do you guys save a single best lap replay? I only get the option to "Save Replay" or "Save Ghost Replay"...?
In some versions it's called 'save best lap replay', in others is 'save ghost replay', they're the same thing.
You can then view it using the replay function accessible through the main page.

Can i send my time what was driven with my normal PSN ID, or shall i drive a new time with the GTP_ PSN ID?
The GTP one, otherwise what's the point?

To be clear about this:

Save best lap replay button:

Is there a way to make that icon as a flashing pop up everytime someone enters this thread?
👍

So Sphinx, am I division 7 or 8? I know, wait until the 28th or something right?

I saved my replay, but I doubt I'd need to submit it, my time is well and truly more than believable enough.:p I'd need to buy a USB memory stick if I did anyway, might get one just to transfer photos from GT5 to the internet for TLD.

I saved my replay just in case no one believes you can go that slow round Suzuka in an F430.

I did it and even I'm having a hard time believing it's possible so I have my ammunition for when the doubters try to call my bluff :D

Too bad those Japanese are taking over the top ten.. lol.. would be much easier way to verify the lap. :ouch:

No one will be slower than me. I beat my best time by three tenths of a second last night and forgot to save the lap! :dunce:

I'll have to try again this evening.

Anyone else experienced this: with the G25 paddles & the F430 I find that every now & then I'm going up two or even three gears when I shift. I never have this problem in F1:CE where I also use the paddles.
