You're probably thinking "What the hell?" Just try it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Viewing your T1 & T2 Time Splits:
  • You need to make sure you save the 'Save Best Lap Replay' (ghost replay), not the 'Save Replay' (See pic below)
  • To view your best lap replay, go to 'My Home' and watch the replay from there using the 'Gallery' option.
  • Live timing monitor does not work properly, so we have to use a small trick to view splits.
  • While viewing your Replay, pause the lap by hitting start, before the end of the first sector.
  • While keeping the replay paused, advance the replay, using the forward arrow on the replay HUD. This will advance the replay to the end of the first sector. That's your T1 split, write it down.
  • Advance the replay again. That will show the lap to date time on the screen, this is your first and second sector time, added together.
  • To post your T1 & T2 Splits, simply post the lap to date times that are shown in the middle of the screen. Do not try to calculate the actual T2 split time, the Fetchbot will do that for you.

Standard Clean OLR Rules:
  • At Least 2 Tires must be in contact with track at all times.

    • In situations where contact with the track is not possible because tires are airborne (above the ground), then the run is only legal if at least two tires in-line would have made contact with the track if the car were not airborne.
    • If track contact cannot be 100% determined, then consider it dirty.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track.
  • No contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • If you're not 100% sure that your lap is clean, then consider it dirty
  • No hybrids
  • No cheating of any kind, these are relaxed races and we are experienced racers, we know what times can be done, and we can read your mind.We will know.
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules

Thread rules:

The following information cannot be discussed in this thread (they can, however, be discussed on MSN or via other private conversation methods):

  • Total Lap Time
  • Any information which can be used to infer your total laptime

The following information can be discussed in this thread :

  • The first 2 splits: T1 & T2 times
  • Any settings discussion.

Submission:

All submissions must be sent by PM (Subject title: GTP_WRS Week 12 Submission ) to (WRSFetchbot):

  • Then attach your 'Best Lap'/'Ghost' replay in zip file form. Everyone submits a replay instead of listing a lap time.
  • You will need to put something in the message body in order to begin a conversation. It doesn't matter what you put, it can even be 1 letter or symbol. Nobody but the Fetchbot is going to see it, so it's sort of pointless, anyhow.
  • You will get an automated response within 15min, letting you know whether your submission was accepted, or if you had an error.
  • If you have an error, don't panic. Just review the instructions for submission and submit again. If you are having trouble and cannot figure it out, please post your question in the race thread.

  • Users can ask the bot for the current submitted time by sending a message with the body: "get entry"
  • Users can delete their submitted time by sending a message with the body of "remove entry".
  • If you want to submit multiple times in the week that is still not a problem. Just reply to the conversation with your new time and new replay. Fetchy always uses the last submitted time as the final one.
  • See this screenshot as an example on how to submit:

  • The deadline is Monday, April 14th 11:59pm GMT
  • If you are unsure of the deadline try this site

Why Use GMT?:

GMT is World Time and the basis of every world time zone which sets the time of day and is at the centre of the time zone map. GMT sets current time or official time around the globe. Most time changes are measured by GMT. Although GMT has been replaced by atomic time (UTC) it is still widely regarded as the correct time for every international time zone.

Replay Checking:
  • Everyone is required to submit a replay for verification. This happens when you submit to the Fetchbot, and the replays will be visible in the leaderboard, once we've reached the event deadline
  • Participants will be expected to check each others' replays for cleanliness, for replays marked in the Results thread as (Check Needed)
  • Video replays are not accepted as a form of verification

Good luck, :gtplanet:

Note: Traction Control is prohibited for this event but the Handbrake is allowed

Cleaned up T3 a bit, but in the process I found there's at least 0.5 left in the run to T2. Seems the loose dirt near the grass can really slow you down, I don't remember that being an issue in GT5. 👍

I've always been bad at driving on the dirt but I've always loved it. Hopefully this week I can work out how to do it a little more successfully. I've had a quick familiarisation session, the moment I pressed pause in the replay to view my splits, I got this pic:

Not sure Abarth had this kind of driving in mind when they created this little pocket rocket, nevertheless:

24.391
51.391

I'm going to use this week to try and learn how to drive 'Bumper Cam'. I've always been a 'Rear Exterior' driver but I can't see the best lines on the track this week from behind the car so we'll see how I go. I was also thinking, this is the perfect week for you @nursemorph to get more confident with driving manual, you're only really using two gears and you taking control of when to change will be beneficial. I remember distinctly the week me and @Casio learned how to drive manual and we've never looked back, I promise you won't either 👍

@MisterWeary : The problem, unfortunately, isn't getting comfortable with manual as I'm sure I could adjust relatively quickly...it's just my fingers cannot cope with the adjusted position on the back of the controller.....I tried using manual back some time ago and my hands and fingers ached within 10 minutes of using it (not to mention I forget about changing gears due to my poor concentration levels) . I'm hoping to get a DS2 which, hopefully, will be more comfortable but need to find a half-decent adapter first.

Not sure if I'm looking forward to this or not....I like rally events, though I have problems with avoiding barriers but have never driven this car before...can't be any worse than the Audi though

Thanks for a very cool and enjoyable combo. The Abarth is a great choice for this fun little Eiger track. 👍

First session:

24.050
51.184

Was hoping for something stock, and lowish power. So it has turned out! Shame I am woeful on dirt.

Look forward to giving this a bash. Can't wait to see the replays of you fast guys!

Good luck all.

Once you realise when to change gear, it's actually OK :)
I think there's going to be a wide spread of times this week

Seems the loose dirt near the grass can really slow you down, I don't remember that being an issue in GT5. 👍
Avoiding that mud sure makes a big difference. Good tip, thank you!

Submitted and accepted just to check all was OK

Other Rims allowed?
With dirt tyres the rims are pre-set and you can't change them.... (Would be nice if it went back to GT4's feature of being able to choose separate rims for each tyre type :indiff:)

Put an hour into it this morning and I do think this is great fun, not surpringly. :sly: Its a good intro to dirt track techniques for anyone who is usually put off by rally; not too fast, FF with good traction and the Abarth has great balance for an FF car.

Don't just mash the throttle in 2nd - modulate it to maintain best traction and rev it right to the red. And stay away from the rubble near the grass borders - there is less grip there and it costs quite a bit of time in lost traction through turns 2, 3 and 4. You can straight line the chicane more though since its not a key traction zone. Flat out through the esses but get set up early for the right hander onto the bridge in sector 3.

My splits from this morning:

23.573
49.623

Lost time running out of the hairpin, so a bit to find there and entered the final bridge a little off-line, so some more there too. I'll do a first sector video in a short while. 👍

I just gave this a few laps out of curiosity... and quickly realised how rubbish I am on dirt

Will definitely come back to this though, need to shake off the old dust for rallying and this low-speed event should make things a lot easier! 👍

Oh dear. Ran 15 laps and thought I was doing well....until I checked times everyone has posted . Can't see where I'm going to find the missing time frankly, as I'm only 3 tenths off my PB's, so:

S1: 25.115
S2: 52.765

Don't feel bad. I was just ashamed to post my 53.3 T2
I'm assuming the last of the high speed turns before the bridge is a good candidate for e-brake, no?

I can't get the hang of the handbrake. My thumb can't reach a button easily enough :(

24.172
50.838

At least .2 in sector 1 and another .3 in sector 2.

Happiest I have been after first session though.

23.570
49.720

Lost a tenth in t2 and maybe there's .05 in t3, but this is getting close to my limit. I was fearing for the life of my poor g27 so I unplugged the power for the force feedback, it took some getting used to, but works quite well.

I'm not using the e-brake at all, if you get used to how the car slides you can just float in to the corners.
