GTPlanet.net Virtual Stock Exchange Competition!

I would say so .. as you start out with a $3,000 equity. BTW I'm at $3429.96 right now :).

do you make interest off of the money in your account?

if so, that's probly where the dough is coming from.

No its not interest, it tells you how much interest you've earned.

emad
$300 in interest would be a 10% per day rate... That's just a bit uh... odd.

Emad, it says that altogether you have a loss of $26.30, yet your Total Equity does not reflect this -- something is not right. Did you sell any stocks yet?

I just realized something -- most of the Total Equity figures are incorrect. I really hope by tomorrow everything gets straightened out! :scared:

how can we tell if stocks are about to drop?

It is impossible to tell whether or not a stock is about to drop. A stock's volatility can give you some idea as to how often (or how extreme) a stock will move, but there is no way to tell when it will go up or down. The stock market it unpredictable. You can get a good sense as which stock is more likely to go up or down by doing some research.

Omnis
oh yeah......im in 1st place. :D

No you're not... it's a mistake -- which will hopefully be corrected by tomorrow. Your total gain is $6.24 -- on top of the $3000 you started with. It's impossible to get a total equity of $8000 off of $3000 worth of cash in one day without buying on margin.

Why can't we buy stcks that are under $5? I have some good picks, but this ******* rule won't let me cash in on my excellent finds.

When Event Horizon made the competition he made that rule -- it might be possible for him to change the rule, but you're going to have to ask him. I don't know why the Total Equity numbers are so off.

EDIT: I have World Politics from 2:30pm-3:45pm, so I won't be back here until about 4pm or so.

true. i hadn't bought with margin though until just now. i've been at first for a while though.

and of course, the stock market is one unpredictable mammajamma. i have a good trading sense though.

the rankings are also listed by returns %age. perhaps that is why i am in the lead?

No. The numbers are all wrong. Hopefully tomorrow they will be adjusted.

i've also found some great stock...but its too bad that it is under 5 bucks. by tommorow, it'll probably be around 5 or 10. :(

In that case, just buy it when the price reaches that level. :) If the stock is as good as you say it is, it'll still appreciate.

EDIT: I cannot believe the numbers got all mixed up! You've got people with losses and a higher total equity than me (which is impossible by the way). VSE better fix that by tomorrow! :grumpy:

lol.

how much stock do you usually buy at once? 20? 50? 100?

[edit:] i see you have a bunch of activision stock. good choice. 👍

cnbc is my friend.

Wow. I am the most unlucky person in the world. Stupipd Microsoft. Symantec plummeted today. I hate my luck! My other stcok went up 5.5% while symantec went down a freakin 6%!

I did this because penny stocks are too volitle. They're too risky and in real life, you wouldn't want to risk that much.

hahahah almost everyone is higher than you brian, and same with EH. And they had a day's headstart. On another note, everyone visit TRS. And on... another note, I just bought some Apple shares. (stupid Microsoft!!!!!1)

Its counting what you buy on Margin as your total net worth. That is a glitch. This will hopeully change in 2 minutes when the market closes.

[n00b question] What exactly is equity?[/n00b question]

And also, is the gain/loss display in the portfolio the gain/loss for the day, or is it compared to when you purchased the stock?
