Maybe the F1 models don't sell that well. I'm an F1 fan since ~1995 but don't have any F1 model...

I would like to have one of those Exoto F1 models though..

Does anyone have the AA 2003 Bentley Speed 8 version. If so do you have pics??
I have one! :sly:

Excellent, thx.
I wasn't aware till a couple of hours ago there were 2 different ones. I have the #8 2002. You think the 2003 #7 is worth Euro 95?

Yeah, I'd say it is worth it. That is roughly what I paid for mine. Plus the #7 is the LM winner :sly:
Anyway no problem :)
I love sharing pics lol

^ Holden,

Not sure if I understand you correctly. For 2003, how do the #7 and #8 differ apart from drivers and the fact that #7 won.
I know the 2002 #8 differs in build from 2003 models. Or did you perhaps misread?

I didn't know that holdenhsvgtsr! (I have the #7)

AMG; €95 is alright I guess, they were a little pricier some time ago :)

Carlos
So we all have the #7? :dopey:

There should be a GTP Scale model thread car

Yes! :D what do we all have? No speed 8 for me :'(

Also... I sold off part of my corvettecorvette (duplicates....) but I've gone on a ebay shopping spree.

1) TSM Porsche 936 #3
2) RedBull x2010 S.Vettel
3) Minichamps BMW M3 GTR
4)

Spark Porsche 997 GT3R Pikes Peak :D (Eppiccccccc)

I can't wait until they arrive :D ill be posting pictures when they arrive

Lolol, I have a AutoArt 2003 Spped 8 in #7 livery also.

The 2003 cars the 8 car had a smaller wing to create less drag where's the 7 was larger to make it more stable.

Slightly rubbish pictures but it shows it, the 7 as the double struts the 8 as the single.

Those two pieces on the side are called endplates. ;)

The regulations of Le Mans at that time state that the wing supports could not be any closer to the side of the car than x meters (I don't remember what the number is) even though the wing element itself could be the full width of the car. However, this created a problem where the wing supports did not go all the way out to the side. What Bentley did was it installed deep endplates on the #7 car that attached to the ducts aft of the rear wheels. These endplates went all the way up to the edge of the rear wing, but they didn't actually touch. If you look carefully, there is a small gap between the rear wing and the endplate itself, so that technically, these endplates were not support structures.

It ended up that the #7 car with the deep endplates created more downforce, but the #8 car without the endplates had less drag. From what I remember, the aero difference between the two were small.

It's too bad that AA did not model that part correctly, in that there should actually be a gap between the rear wing and the endplates, instead of just being once continuous piece.

Suffice to say I ordered the #7 2003. Arrival date Friday. That makes it 2 Speed 8s.

@Bram T - perhaps you should have a look at Marktplaats.nl, if you don't already. Reasonable prices mostly compared to ebay.

Basically here's the designers take on it

MC: For 2003 a single element wing reappeared at Le Mans. What drove that modification? Can you compare the aero package of the #7 and #8 cars at Le Mans ’03 and describe the reason behind the differences (driver preference/comfort inter-team competition, etc.?)

PE: The 2003 car was on the limit as regards overhangs. In other words it would have been impossible to move the rear wing back any more and remain legal, or for that matter make the front any shorter. Also the top body shape was designed to reduce the turbulence of the flow onto the wing. The net result was that we could knock 2 or maybe 3 degrees of wing off compared to the old car. At those sorts of wing angles the single piece wing was actually more efficient than the two-piece. At Sebring, where we ran a higher level of downforce we ran the 2 piece.

The aero packages on the two cars were just two of several options developed in the tunnel. The basic aero concept did seem to be very versatile. You could get a high downforce sprint setup, or a really low drag Le Mans, and keep in balance, and by playing around with louvers and turning vanes you could bias it between slow and fast corners differently, entry and exit etc. I suppose it was the payoff for the investment in the tunnel program. Both cars actually had a similar balance, but car 7 ran a higher level of downforce (and drag), map on map, although the mechanical setup was such that it ran in a different part of that aeromap and the end result was fairly similar. Car 8 ran a setup that was close to the tunnel baseline, which was good, because it showed that the tunnel was giving good data. The overall difference in lap time was not significant. Both setups had their merits. It was actually quite rewarding to see the race engineers being able to dial in the cars to the different driving squad’s preferences in this way. The old car had only really worked with one setup.

Car 7 ran the vertical wing endplate extensions. The drivers felt that these stabilised the car in yaw, which would be logical, whereas on car 8 they didn’t like them. I have to say that having poured over a lot of tunnel data with these off and on that I think the effect of these came down largely to yaw behaviour, certainly on the Bentley where the wing mounting plates were only just inboard of them. In other words any advantage of a deeper endplate in making the wing more efficient is difficult to show when you look at the complete aeromap – at least with the profile we ran.

What do you guys use for antenna's. I have 1 missing that I replaced with a thin sewing needle but it still feels a bit odd...

Actually a nice idea. I bet the plastic ones would look good painted. Also might hold paint better than the metal ones.

On one of my model cars, the shifter broke, so I made one out of a plastic sewing needle, painted it with a nice bright silver. It matched ok.

Its like $5 for a bag of 20..

Thanks for the tip. 👍

@AMG
Wow that looks amazing.

@Theace37 - good tip 👍 - but my ebay search terms are failing. Help please.
I also got a tip to buy accupunture needles.

All, thanks for the compliments.
