I don't even know how long it's been since I told myself to make budget cuts and not buy diecasts anymore, 18 months maybe? What I do know is that it's been ages, and life is no better for it, so as a happy birthday gift to myself (that's a lie, but now I'm thinking about it, it's a bloody good excuse!) I have bought a 1/43 version of 3/4 of a piece of wood.

The quality has gone up AGAIN. Herpa really is the TLV of model aircraft, and just to illustrate to the increase, here's a comparison

Herpa never fails to impress me. Honestly, these new models are the most accurate I've ever seen. The images don't do justice.

Just won a MR Huracan LP580-2 on eBay for 231 USD shipped. It will be my first ever MR, lets hope I can be able to escape from the customs tax this time. LOL
 
Does anybody here own a 1/24 version of Spark's Aston Martin DBR9, or AUTOart's 1/18 version of it, or even better, both? If so, can you tell me which is or has more details, and post some pics of it if you're available? Also, do all Spark models come with decals that are vulnerable to yellowing over time?

I know I most likely won't get any replies here, but I wanted to try my luck, considering I saw the Spark version at a slightly attractive price, though it doesn't come with an acrylic case.

Yea I have one of their ABS SLS GT3, the quality is actually worse than AA if you can believe it, but at the very least they are dirt cheap.

Isn't AA regarded as a better brand than Minichamps in terms of quality anyway?

Resin models can be made very nicely and with minimal tooling investment, although the manufacturing cost for each one of them is much higher.

Compared to a die-cast zinc metal body, injected ABS composite material surfaces, with the correct formulation, are smoother and the bodylines and creases are sharper. The openings for vents and holes are also reproduced more cleanly, and the panels can be much thinner when rendered in ABS composite material than in zinc alloy.

I do agree that Diecast doesn't hit sharp details to the level resin can.

My only beef with their argument is that despite the air bubbles they stated, we've rarely seen that in their older models, and Mattel hasn't had that kind of issue either in the past (and they work at a smaller scale too!). They say they can't do vents and stuff, but heck, I'd rather have them pay another guy to do cut-outs on grills and ducts if that equates to higher prices.

$200 for ABS is asking for quite a bit here. 200 CAD that is.

Their latest offering of the half sealed racers and signature line are now $250 to $350 after taxes. In-freaking-sane.
 
I recently bought a Lotus 99T from AA, the chassis is plastic and I have to say, despite it looks cheaper than die cast and resin, well it looks more durable over time, remember zinc cancer?
The only real issue...well they've kept a quite high price.

Forgot to take photos of mine but this model is EXTREMELY fragile, it came broken during shipment, luckly I was able to fix it quite easily.
I messed up a bit with the rear wing, excessive loctite super attak (or crazy glue, the name is different) made a mess, and I scratched a little bit that part in order to remove the excessive glue, on the plus side it's not so visible, unless you pay attention and the model looks stunning anyway.

350 sounds like a number they decided on just because "hey it's a Signature- we need to sell it for more!"

But prices aside, it seems that when you have to write an essay on Facebook to justify your company's new direction even though your buyers are still unhappy, perhaps it's time to invest into another solution. I think lowering the prices is the easiest route to take, since if the company believes in the technological advances of ABS and does not plan to move back to zamak, they need to cover the other thorn stuck in their back; the prices.

It's easy to just say that we'll sacrifice a bit of quality to give you better prices, but with AA's rep in the competition of model car makers, they cannot afford to give that up.

Opening resin, correct? Well there is a reason why other than Frontiart almost no one makes resin model that isn't one piece of body shell, I know TSM has already give up developing new opening resin models.
