So I have a friend who is going to buy a turntable after seeing mine in action. So far so good (< reminds me of Megadeth's, wait I'm getting sidetracked) and asked me a question that had me stumped.

Pretty simple really, he likes my turntable but because it has a pre-amp built in what would happen if he plugged it into his amp that has a phono input?

Too loud, un-listenable, huge distortion?
I couldn't answer him, sure he could plug it into another line level input but what about phono?

As an aside while contemplating and posting this I'm giving the new pressing of DSOTM another listen and gee it is good. Need to listen to my SACD version back to back to see how they compare.

I have the same issue.

The Audio Technica LP5 has a built in Phono Stage (albeit a really horrid one) and the amp im currently using an Arcam Alpha 8 has a Phono stage also built in. On mine I use the Arcam as the sound is far supierior. I have the option not to use the LP5 as it can be switched on/off and the same goes for the Amp.

With your turntable can the built in amp be switched off? if so then he will be fine, if not the built in amp will do its job and then the main amp's phono stage will then try and aplify it again which will sound extreamly distorted and noisey.

The sound is overwhelmingly terrible. Like, high pitch yelling with an amplified nails on the chalkboard in the back ground.
(I bought a cheap preamp to see if that would make it louder/better)
0/10 would not recommend

Quick update on some of the current collection.

It's missing some records which were with the deck in another room, plus missing around 50ish Jazz LPs and my singles collection.

Second LP of the month.

A much needed addition to the collection so I'm happy.

@coryclifford not sure if you're aware but a new Phife Dawg solo album is set to be released this year. It was a project he managed to finish before his passing but didn't get to release it.

More records with still a bucket load to come this month.

I went back to my roots, so to speak. Igot all four of these for $13, which to me is a pretty dang good deal. Bruce Springsteen, Hank Williams Jr, Mac Davis and an assortment of classic country hits including "Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys," "Rose Colored Glasses" and Willie Nelson's "Am I Blue."

One of my oldest life's memories is listening to Bruce's "Born In The USA." I was in the back of my dad's '97 Tahoe in 1998, a little before my third birthday when that song played as we sat in the hot July heat, watching our new house being built. It's something I'll never forget as I live.

More new records.

E-LP - C4C

E-LP is one half of Run The Jewels and an absolute genius in music production. If you like RTJ or the sound Prodigy put out then you may like this album.

And to finish the set. Twin Peaks - Fire Walk With Me soundtrack.

Awesome 90s hip hop. :)

This is my "action" pic:

Nice going @Sprite, I've been tempted to buy the current pressing has it can be had for around $20 but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

So many albums to be had.

It was an album I've had on my radar. But like you said, there are so many albums to buy and new stuff coming along all the time.

This arrived in the post today.

A seriously good darkwave single. I just wish it was a full album. I paid £5 including the delivery and it's now going for up to £35!!

I won't bother with a pic because pretty much everyone knows what it looks like but I picked up the 2016 re-issue of The Wall today.
Listening to it now (onto the 2nd album) and gee it does sound good.

Seems the Floyd re-issue albums are pretty good as my DSOTM is also great. Now to find The Final Cut for Mrs Shaun as that's her favourite and a few of the others for myself.

@Sprite I actually went into town to get Never Mind The Bollocks but when I was this I had to have it, as I said so many albums.

@Shaun I've been looking at the Pink Floyd re-issues (I have a few older pressings in my collection and the Division Bell boxset) but I'm going to wait on a boxset which has the whole lot (if one gets a release, nothing in the pipeline as I see it yet)

However I don't like all the albums they've done so even that might be a waste on me.

So much this 👍

While I'm happy to go into bat for Floyd as one of the most influential bands of all time that have happened to released a few of the best records ever, they do also have some stuff that is very hard to listen to even for the most hardened fan.

A few records came in.

IMG_7644.JPG

First is a seriously good Synth Pop album. A little like a cross between Kraftwerk and Joy Division.

This would be the same 45 as the one in the post above. However this is a second pressing on clear. A pressing of 250 copies and mail order only.

I love Shelly Manne and the Jazz he makes. However I also love soundtracks. This is a perfect combination. Excellent.

This is more of a library record. The title says it all. It's drums used in Vodou (Voodoo) practices. You'll probably hear these crop up in HipHop and other breaks and beats for years to come.

And... another...

This time Death Peak by Clark. Limited Clear vinyl double LP. It came with a promo sticker too.

As I pre-ordered from Bleep. I was already gifted the digital download. Inside there was also another code. As such anyone who wants it can have it.

Awesome album!!! Hoova gives me Totems Flare nostalgia. Can't wait till the Death Peak tour hits Austin.

Your collection has doubled since the last time i've seen it . Cop that new Arca already 👍

Since we have the same taste, I take the stuff I haven't heard of as a sense of enlightment.

@MHPALA I do have a very wide taste in music so there is always something which peaks my interest. I've got a few more to pop up on here too!!

For those wanting to get in on the ground floor Mondo Tee's is doing a times release on the original Alien OST today (Alien Day)

Edit -

As mentioned here are some I have just got.

Not vinyl, but we don't have a cassette thread. This was part of Set bought by my partner for my birthday. Along with the record above, it had a signed CD, fanzine, signed print, button badges, tote bag & T-shirt.
