Today the postie dropped of the new limited white label 7” from Trees Speak. These guys are fantastic and one of the best new acts to release anything for a long time. The two new tracks here have an Air (French Band) vibe. They have a new LP coming soon which I’ve pre-ordered.

This finally came in the mail today! :) I recently bought it to replaces my mom's old one since it was scratched up pretty badly and had a lot of crackling audio. It has a few tracks I care about and since I intend to digitize the records in my house someday, I wanted to be able to get the record in better condition for the best playback.

^The one on the left is my moms, the one on the right is mine. You can't really tell in the photo, but the record from my mother is pretty scratched up and it's noticeably worse than all the others for some reason. My mom says it was already like that when she got it from someone a long time ago. So who knows what happened to it before.

Fortunately this one is in much better shape! :)

Some new pick ups over the last week or so.

EDCB5697-97D2-411F-AEF6-04A726E9C7C6.jpeg

The left is Homeshake - Fresh Air LP, he plays more of some lo-fi, dreamy pop like music. Very mellow and just good listening for me.

The right is Gus Dapperton - Where Polly People Go to Read. I would probably put him as an Indie Pop artist.

The two artist are probably one of my favorite over the past few years.

This last one is Parcels - LIVE VOL. 1, a double LP. It's a compilation of their best tracks(IMO) live recorded in a studio in Berlin I believe. I barely found out about them this year, maybe a month or two ago and it's been a long time since I've liked almost all of a bands songs right off the bat. An instant favorite, and likely at the top of the list of favorite artists currently. It's a nice funky album. Me being a bass player, the first thing that always catches me is a good bass line, and this definitely covered that for me.

This one actually came from Spain as there was none available in the US, and so far is the most expensive vinyl I bought @ $60. That really isn't bad considering international shipping too. The boxing wasn't the best, and there wasn't a layer of protection on one side so theres a small scratch down the middle of the casing due to my razor blade, but the whole thing is in perfect condition otherwise.

Got two more on the way that should be arriving in the next week or two.

New record day. The latest from Andy Bell (or Oasis fame) and Pye Corner Audio. Some of you will not know but I hate Oasis and Brit Pop as a genre. I can stomach Ian Brown / Stone Roses & Super Furry Animals but the rest can just suck it. :D

So I didn’t pick this up for the Ian Bell connection. I bought it because of Martin Jenkins aka Pye Corner Audio. From my past posts you may know I’m a bit of a fan boy.

Despite my comments above, the song writing and lyrics/vocals are ok here and are more akin to Stone Roses.

Nothing new today, but it’s a Bank Holiday and the sun is out. So before heading out with the Doggo it’s two albums which mean a lot to me.

Tracy Chapman is so bloody good, and her albums have a socially and political truth which run deep even to this day.

The next is a Japanese Import. HMV Record Shop have their own reissue label “Project Re:Vinyl” and they’ve been putting out some exceptional jazz records. There is a Ryo Fukui Trio LP coming too but this is him and not his band. Excellent Jazz Piano and a horrible sleeve choice :D

A new LP arrived yesterday and I haven’t the heart to open it. Thankfully I have a High Res digital copy to listen to too. Some excellent Post Punk electro and synth stuff from Vienna. Mitra Mitra have put this compilation of remixes together in such a lovely package.

Lino cut and hand printed sleeve, with a ribbon and wax seal. Limited to 180 copies worldwide and hand numbered. It also had a hand written note from the artists in too.

A couple new albums.

First is the next album on my Elton John checklist, Caribou. It's crazy that I'm 9 albums into his discography and yet the releases only span 5 years.

DSC_0190.JPG

Next up is the deluxe version of Black Pumas self titled debut. I already had the standard version but I finally caved and bought the expanded version of it as it's such a good album plus their cover of Tracy Chapman's Fast Car is amazing. It also came with a 7” single featuring a cover of Eleanor Rigby.

New this week, is the latest from Library of the Occult horror music label. This label keeps putting excellent stuff out, however this is currently the best release so far.

It’s a Psych, Jazz, Rock, Synth record and it’s excellent.

Well it’s been 25 years since this classic Drum and Bass album was released. If you don’t know Goldie or his work then I’d recommend starting with this album.

This is the 25th anniversary version put out by London Records on a gold triple 12”. It looks great and sounds even better.

edit - Arrived 19 April 2021

A stunning reissue of a landmark and groundbreaking ambient new age album by Japanese composer Yasukazu Sato aka Yas-Kaz. Released in the 80s this laid the foundations for a lot of other artists to come through, however it’s largely unknown in the west. Glossy Mistakes record label have done a faithful recreation of the original and it’s excellent.

The second is a reissue of a sort after and hard to find (even harder to find complete with insert and obi) Kohsuke Mine - First. BBE Records have done a stellar job of recreating the sleeve and obi. If your into J-Jazz then this is a must.

Another batch of vinyl arrived!

First are 3 albums I've finally checked off my "embarrassed I don't have them yet" list. Pink Floyd's Meddle, Animals and The Wall.

DSC_0193.JPG

Next is the latest release from Jack White's vault. It's a 4-disc set containing a live performance from 2014 as well as a 7" containing his performance on SNL in November. This is much more in line with what I was expecting from this subscription.

I had 3 pre-orders arrive on the same day.

The first pre-order is Pink Floyd's Live at Knebworth 1990.

I also purchased the next Elton album on my list, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. This is the first album I've purchased from a seller on Discogs as well as the first used album I've ever purchased online. Thankfully everything went well.

The next pre-order is Evile's Hell Unleashed on red vinyl.

DSC_0201.JPG

And last but certainly not least, Gojira's Fortitude also on red vinyl.

New records have landed.

First is something Anime fans may recognise. The 30th Anniversary release of Roujin-Z soundtrack. I’d seen this pop up on HMV Japan Insta and knew at once I had to get it. So off to Discogs and one of my main go-to’s in Japan for a copy. It took around a week to get here and was packed perfectly and because they understand we get rimmed on VAT and Import duty, they declare the value low so as not to attract added costs. Shown here with my Blu-ray copy of the film.

Next up is a wonderful album from Penya and released on their new Label Liminal Recordings. Magnus and his bandmates are all wonderful people and have brought their A game to this new record. Shown here with the stickers and the stamp they put on the mailer (yes I keep everything released with the LP) it’s also signed by the 3 main band members.

More wax incoming.

First is the new live album from the Danish Synthwave artist Code Elektro. A great compilation of tracks from past albums but performed live with two new bandmates. Came with a postcard with personal message and a plectrum.

I don't have that one (yet) but I've been enjoying "Love Comes In Waves" and "Skywalker" on the LP. Andy was also in Ride, which may still not be your taste but may be preferable to your more typical Britpop; they're shoegaze so they had a bit of that neo-psychedelia edge like the Stone Roses. He was in another Britpop band as well, though the name escapes me at the moment.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the name was Erasure.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the name was Erasure.

I was the same why Pye Corner Audio announced he was doing some remixes for him. I was actually more excited by that prospect, but the EP turned out pretty good and I'm happy to have it as part of my collection.

New wax landed at the beginning of the week.

The duo from Arizona have done it again, another perfect Krautrock album.

Postie arrived with a record I’ve had on pre-order for months. HHV Germany kept putting back the delivery and I eventually just got sick of waiting so I cancelled the order and picked it up direct from the label. I’m glad I did.

Another stunning J-Jazz album added and a fantastic live performance.

New records have landed this week.

First is a group from Pakistan called Jaubi. They released this 7” a while back but as I just bought their new album I wanted the 7 to go with it as they’re really all part of the same collection. Satanic Nafs with a remix on the B side.

Edit number 2 today!

The flow of wax is strong today.

The new and truly beautiful album from Jaubi has arrived. What an album this is. This is the third on my list for album of the year, it’s a stunner.

Recommended for those who like soulful, jazzy, breaks and beats mixed with traditional Pakistani instrumentation. This is Nafs at Peace and follows on from Satanic Nafs 7” I posted above.

Some new additions over the past few months. Slowed down a good bit but probably going to start picking up next month.

Kainalu - Lotus Gate
647659A9-8637-4ACD-B39B-9D4973CF0618.jpeg

Spotify had suggested a song from him some months back and I really enjoyed it so I picked up his album. Has a good bit of a psychedelic feel to it.

Benny Sings - Music

Benny Sings is probably one of my favorite artist and seems very versatile as an artist. Would be a good listen for most anyone I feel.

My dad snagged this for me from a thrift store, and only for 12 bucks. It’s a Pioneer SX 3700 and seems to be in perfect functioning order aside from some of the toggle buttons not lighting up.

Another week and another record (depending if I get out to the record shop I maybe adding another two today also)

This is Nubiyan Twist - Freedom Fables

A British Jazz, Soul Afrobeat group. They are fantastic and the record is lovely sounding. If you’re into large ensemble bands then these guys are a must.

Well I eventually got to the record shop. I picked up a second copy of the Nubiyan Twist LP and gave it to my local dealer as a gift. We’d been speaking about it quite a bit and he didn’t get a copy so I ordered both of us one.

I did pick up some new wax while there too.

First is Special Herbs Vol 3 & 4. I did want all 10 volumes (spread over 5 sets) and have been reliably informed they’re on order. If he doesn’t get them in I can pick them up from Discogs as the new represses aren’t going for crazy prices.

I haven’t done my normal Insta type photos for these as I want to wait till I have the set. So you’ll have to settle for a shot of it in the speaker stand while it’s on rotation.

Next is another fantastic Blue Note - Tone Poet record. Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - The Witch Doctor. A fine album for sure and like all the other Tone Poet series records it’s a beaut in the hand.

Anyone participating in the Record Store Day today?

I’m just on my way home now. Missed two records on my list but got the three main ones which I’m stoked about because my local independent only got 1 copy each.

Edit - Later that day...

First is a none RSD item. It’s the new EP by ambient leftfield specialist duo Space Afrika from Manchester. A stunning 4 track EP which follows on from last years digital only release and is leading up to their full album coming later this year.

Just arrived this second. 24 Hour delivery from Juno Records. This is the last of the Ryo Fukui records. So now I have all releases (modern re-releases).

HMV Japan have done a lovely double LP of it for some reason We Release Jazz won’t be getting it for release in the EU, so Japanese Import it was.

New wax landed today. Library Of The Occult No.13. Another excellent synth soundtrack to D&D / Choose Your Own Adventure type tabletop games.

It’s Wednesday and the postie has just dropped this off. Japanese funk jazz fusion with a touch of soul. I’ve had it on order since March via Rough Trade in London. My friend gave me a gift card on my birthday so I put it towards this.

What's the collection numbers at now @Sprite , it must be pretty impressive.
Despite my constant new records it doesn’t seem to increase that quickly. My Discogs page says 1415 items. This includes CDs, 7”s, 10”s and 12”s.

I do have a few missing from there due to my own laziness adding them or the records just haven’t been added to the Discogs database and I haven’t attempted to add them myself. So maybe about 1450 in total.

I do have still 6 more on pre-order but with a 9 month backlog at the pressing plants it’s slow for labels getting stuff out the door. I’ve slowed my buying a little bit due to house renovations looming (or at least the push to save the money to get them done). I did float the idea with the other half about selling the whole collection to free up some money to kickstart the projects. But she refused and said I’d regret it.

Hello vinylists! Good to see there's a thriving record collecting community amongst us petrolheads. I am into collecting vinyl as I fell in love with mixing in the early to mid 90's when I grew up in the UK underground dance music scene. My bag is Hardcore/Jungle/Drum and Bass (or whichever pigeon hole you want to put it in) from circa 1991-1996. I have an increasingly bulging collection.

EDIT: @Sprite it seems we share a similar affliction.
