Welcome to the GTPLMS

Round 1: Yokahama Grand Prix of Suzuka

Round 1
Track: Suzuka - 3.61miles (5.81km)
Length: 28 laps - 101.08 miles
Deadline: May 6th @ 6p CST (GMT -6)

SuzukaTrackMap.jpg

Suzuka plays host to the 1st round of GTP LeMans Series Season 2. Long, winding, and extremely technical, Suzuka will give drivers fits in the first endurance event of the season. A fitting first chapter to season 2.

Qualifying saw some hotly contested battles, and it all bodes well for the season to come. HP adjustments have been made to all drivers according to the rules, and everyone is anxious to get going on the first enduro of the season. All drivers should remember that this is a DOUBLE POINTS EVENT. With fields qualifying within seconds of each other, many under 1/10th of a second between, this should be exciting to watch.

News Flash
Starting with R1, GTPLMS competition will institute round-by-round competition adjustments. These will be adjustments to horsepower in percentage points as follows.
1st - -2%
2nd - -1%
...
2nd Last - +1%
Last - +2%
Up to a maximum of +/- 10%. Each addition/restriction will last for 3 sessions, qualifying OR race. Race restrictions carry over to qualifying, and vice versa.

Entry List and Car Specifications shown below.

I ask once again about the deadline... You give us just a week for the race in this thread while you were talking about two weeks just a few days ago...

Note on deadline: This race is one of the enduro events of the season, and consequently is Double Points for the race. This also means that there is going to be some extra time needed to be put into this race, which is why it is hot-lap qualifying instead of sprint-race. That being said, i figured it wouldn't be near as tough for people to do hot-laps in a short time frame, and I can post results Fri (my time) night and give people 2 weekends to do what is going to amount to about an hour race for GT3 classes (shorter obviously for faster classes). Most enduros will be run like this, with the sprint-race qualifying for the shorter races. Trust me guys (and girl), there will be quite a variety this season, i've tried to mix a few things up to keep it interesting...and with some close racing it should be fun.

c

Was wondering that too CHARGER another week would be ideal { its a heavy work-load for those racing 3 or more classes } .. but i'm ok with the deadline and im cool with whatever the race director decides { if it is extended }

Delfino wishes everyone good luck and looks forward to arriving at Suzuka with his race team { btw i have an all-girl pitt crew }

It was supposed to give you two full weekends, and i've changed the date to May 6th. It's roughly 1 hr for GT3, so maybe 45m for PRO. This should be enough time even for multiple class drivers...heck, i'm driving all four (glutton for punishment i guess).

Consequently, i've taken the S2000 out for a bank-race, and even with my HP restriction, I've turned laps with RH that were about .7s off my qualifying lap. Still haven't hit that golden lap, or that personal goal I'm looking for, as well as finding an ideal tire strategy, but with a fast-lap of 2:03.xxx on RS/RS, and right now a 5-stopper, which will change.

Good luck all, I think i might tackle some GT2 tests today.

Welllllll!

I'm looking at a 3 stopper in PRO!

Got a good run in the bag, and had a great run on pause. Had tea and a few cans, bit of a break, then re-started........Complete disaster! Aborted the run with 45 mins on the clock after a tank-slapper at the anti-banked corner, resulting in a spin.

Moral of the story? Don't let the misses talk you into cooking tea and taking a break when you are 3/4 through a 50 min race!:sly:

Shotgun .. your QF lap was 2:04.022 and your running 'about.7's off it on RH's ' .. hmmmmm .. seems rather interesting that with RS's your still only running 2:03's .. am i missing something ; are you spinning a yarn :sly: or have you made a typo ? { find it hard to believe you can only find a maximum of 1.7 odd seconds between using RH's and RS's :)

NP Gun .. i think it was an 'oversight' .. not a fib .. i wish humans could 'survive' on just one hours sleep ... had 6 hours this morning after a very late night , and i'm dozzzzzzing off behind the wheel on the way home

Time submitted.
It was a little bit strange for me that with -2% less power I lost so much time per lap.
I was not able to race as fast as I did in the qualifying or when I tried it,the car consumed its tyres one lap before I planed, because I pushed too hard to keep the laptimes relatively low...:ouch:
It will be a really tricky season when the settings of the cars will be changed between the qualifying and the race.Anyway,it will be interesting too.👍

Very quiet in here today. Everyone must be concentrating on those nasty esses. Or engaged in real life issues. My girlfriend threw me for a bit of a curve earlier today. She was reading a recent magazine story about Paul McCartney and his mess and all the money he has. Well, I said to her half jokingly "You know, he was in a band before Wings?" She said "What's Wings?" LOL To be fair, she is 15 yrs younger than me but I'll never let her live that one down.

Well,time submitted again.
I found a little time to race yesterday in the evening.I shaved some seconds from my previous result, but left about 5 seconds on the track because of the goddamn Pug205.
So I give some work to do to Chris!:)

Sorry I haven't been round much these last few days, guys!

RL intrudes!

Haven't been able to do any racing at all since the other day, apart from a short, un-successfull hour trying to get a good start without frying the fronts too early.

Concentrating on the GT-One, not the Viper. Mixed compounds make for interesting racing, especially when they start going off.

Hopefully I will get to this tomorrow afternoon, but for now the pool table and Guinness are calling to me.

Well, initial runs are in for all cars.

GT3: I just can't seem to reach that elusive 1hr mark. It's always something. The S2000 burns through front tires like they're softs, but after you learn the car, and that it's ALL about momentum (you lose it, you've lost it), it's really a fun drive. so far it's a 5-stopper (Sorry Neil), but i'm sure I can improve.

GT2: that M3 really shows it's weakness after Spoon and after Casio. Top-end is terrible, but the cornering is great. decent times here, and very consistent. did a 3-stopper here, but might go for a 4-stop w/ softer tires.

GT1: That Viper is a beast! and watch out when those tires go orange. 3 stopper here too, but I don't think there's much in the way of improvement.

PRO: Top end was limited by a great qualifying effort, but I think it may have helped. did a 2 stopper (yes, 2 stops), and I'm fairly happy with the lap times. Might try a 3 stopper, but that last lap feels like the R8's at Chamonix, not Suzuka. wheee...

Don't know how much more driving I'll be able to get in, but you guys (and gal) have until sunday night, May 6th, to get me your times. Figured I'd give you all 2 weekends.

c

Whew! I feel better now that I've heard some reports. I'm trying to decide between 3 or 4 stops too, but 2 STOPS on RHs!

Proto for me is a 4 stopper ! .. id consider a 3 stopper but doubt ill get the time .

GT2 and GT3 are a different story though , the Subaru certainly leaves the S2000 in its exhaust dust when it comes to tyre life { 3 stops is a healthy option } .... still trying different strategys for both classes before submitting times { on saturday }

You can't be pushing those rear Hard's very much Chris? I'm projecting 8 laps out of RH rears, but on the flip-side, I am getting 7 good laps out of RM fronts!
And I am very happy with my lap-times!

Neil

Sorry Neil, but the tire wear is completely even. I'm going to try a 3 stopper tonight. Remember, I'm 45hp down from you, and that makes a HUGE difference in torque to the rears.

To pit, or not to pit: that is the question:
Whether 'tis faster in the race to suffer
The wear and tear of softer tires,
Or to take arms against a sea of esses,
And with harder tires in the end pitting less?

….. Ay, there's the rub …….

With apologies to William Shakespeare

VERY GOOD!!!!!!! :) :) :)

I like that!

Done with the PRO class, a 3 stopper with miss-matched tyres, only about 5-6 seconds out there and they were caused by passing AI (read getting stuck behind one of them in the esses)

Opening lap of 1'48.9xx
Average lap time : 1'43.5-8xx
Fastest lap time : 1'42.xxx
Lopped over 30 seconds off my previous time.
Very consistant race, quite happy with it.

Off to run the Snake for a few races.

Neil

Just done what I would consider a 'near-perfect' race in the Snake!

No mistakes, no problems with the AI at all, 4 stops, perfect fuel management (Only 2 litres in the tank at the last pitstop, and the fuel guage showed NO fuel at all as I crossed the line), never did I let the tyres get to red, nor did I lose the lead from the first left of the Esses on L1.

Fastest lap time dropping steadily throughout the race as the fuel burned off,
AND, with a fastest lap for the race that would have had me scraping the paint off C-H-A-R-G-E-R's rear bumper in the qualifying!

I will try another strategy tomoz, but I don't think it will be faster.

More than happy!

Neil

Well, Ive submitted my times. Im not that happy with them but theyre the best I can do. Its soo nice outside I cant concentrate.
My Clio time includes a 720 degree spin that I caught and only lost about a second.:)

Times sent .. 4 stoppers in each car .. comfortable with the Subaru and Mazda , had fun with the A1 even though GT2 was more 'aggressive' than GT3 ... see you all on the grid .

I'm done. Times submitted a day early. I've run that S2000 5 times, and can't go faster than the 2nd time. A 5-stopper. :wow:

Same for all of them really, ran each race at least 3 times (I have a lot of spare time lately :) ), and can't go any faster.

On a side note, it's always funny to have an exciting battle lap after lap, only to have the AI spin out in Spoon...only to spin out yourself the next lap and get passed by the same AI. I can almost picture BOB waving at me as he goes bye.

Hope to get results up early tomorrow to concentrate on Fuji '90s qualifying...fyi, it's a sprint-race qualifier.

times submitted, little bit slower than quali.. those AI drivers are a pain... you never know what they are thinking and doing..:ouch: :grumpy:

Shotgun .. excuse my ignorance , but why do we have 'sprint-race' qualifying ? .. when no form of motor sport has such a qualifying format .. could you pls enlighten my confused brain :dopey:

If we can choose,I vote for the hotlap qualifying.People who haven't got enough spare time - like me -,try to do their best in one lap...the sprint races need too much time,I think.
