We definitely have older posts than that one. :) This is the oldest thread I found in the Rumble Strip:

At the bottom of each forum you have "Display Options". Follow the diagram I've attached to find the first post of each forum.

The very first post/thread ever made on the forums can be found here, by me. I was expecting all kinds of errors to pop up when I first tried it out, but to my pleasant surprise, everything worked!

That's a good way to put it, Tophaticent.   is a way of "forcing" a web browser to display a space, and was properly stored in our previous forum software (IkonBoard) on which those messages were originally posted. When I upgraded the forums to vB, I was among the first to use a beta version of the software which imports IkonBoard data into vBulletin. Incorrectly processing the  's was an unfortunate bug which we can still see the effects of today.

I suppose it's code that made smilies and whatnot back then, but has since been changed. The new vB just makes a mess of it. Tree'd.

Jordan you oughta ban yourself now!

You triple posted there... :p

That's pretty cool, to actually see the first post ever made here... so moving.

You should be bannaninated for posting spam like that outside the Test Forum

Sorry if i asked it here..... :nervous:

Well i remembered Jordan made a useless thread in this forum a long time ago.(sorry if it sounds accusing...) Well it was well over 1000 pages (i think) and like they talk all "nonsense" like with each sentence less than 20 words!!!! But somehow Jordan closed the thread because "its taking a toll on us" or something along that line....Wow, really. GTPlanet was waaaaaaaaaaaaay boring back then....

You must be thinking of the "How many replies can we get" or "The Colour Blue - An Argument".

WOW! It only took 4 posts to register the first spelling mistake too. Congrats misnblu, you did well. :)

Somebody should go back and see how long it took to violate every part of the AUP. Might be suprising.

*nose*

Could it be? An unlocked general conversation thread?

I'm not going to do it, for fear of being bent over and violated in Ban Bay Gaol, but is it allowed? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease????

[EDIT]

Are there any screenshots of what GTP looked like when it first started? This board, and perhaps the old MSN group? Jordan?

Wow, it's good to see where the site that takes up around 90% of my interweb activity got its start. Come a long way since then, you should be proud of yourself Jordan, and all the staff really. [/asskiss]

Unfortunately, I don't have any screenshots of the old community. :( You can find it on archive.org, though! Here's a screenshot of the very first layout of our forums. I took it when we reached our first 1,000 members - I was quite stunned that our little site was able to achieve those numbers at the time!

Wow! Increase in member capacity by 100 fold! Nuts!

I think i was around #25,000 or so.. Thats 75,000 people that have joined since the closing of granturismo.com.

Thats insane!

I'm glad i came here though, its was a great website, and still is.

And who can forget HMRCWG? Greatest thread ever. Hehe.

Good job Jordan.

That's not the same layout where the folders caught fire after 20 replies is it?

No one seemed to suspect a thing, evident by the new member notice. Isn't Porsche 944 banned now? Or is he still around?

Regardless, congratulations, Jordan, on running a successful website for so long.

It is a bit late and off-topic, but: Hey, my past Internet ID was rjensen. (link in post #5)
