So I'm going to be doing my legit first Le Mans 24Hr endurance race in GT ever, (I've done them in B-Spec and shorter A-Spec endurances, but never a 24hr one) and I need to know a few things about car selection.

First, I need a car that is guaranteed a win, but will still be slightly challenging and still fun. I will be doing this with a DS3 by the way.

Second, what properties/qualities should I look for when choosing a car? I would prefer to use some tuned LMP's or race cars (Minolta/787B/R92CP). I'm thinking decent power, lots of downforce and higher gearing to be able to hit 230mph on the straights.

I'm really considering using a R29CP or RC89. But I might need to de-tune them slightly to be competitive. Minolta is too much I think but I'm not sure. I hear the 787B is great but needs a bit of suspension tuning to be amazing and I'm looking to avoid tuning at all costs. If possible, I'd also like to try an LMP of some sort (I have most of them). Thanks to all that can help. I will be doing a race report here on the forums after I get this situated.

Cool, good luck!
I heard the 908 stock is good and a challenge.. and with a similar car to the ai, as they are so unagressive you will still win..

I do have the 908. Perhaps I'll try that. Has a bit of understeer though.

So you want a competitive car, while still being certain to get the win...
I'd go with the Nissan you have already said. Try using some other Group C/LMP cars though, especially with the new nice interiors.

It's all about your skill level really.

I'm confident I could win with stock LMP's, I can control an X1 with a DS3 pretty well so I think I could.

I know he´s doing a 24h enduro.
What´s the problem with the 775 PP FGT on SS tyres?

It doesn't have headlights.

I know but isn´t that the challenging thing in this race ?

If this is too challenging then suggest a better car. ;)

Joke is on us. He knew that, lol.👍

Audi r10 not tuned.you will guarantee your victory in the pit stops.audi r10 saves fuel.you will be 20s faster than ia in the pit stops.

Lol, One time i did a race on the Nurb with go-karts. This was before they had headlights, and it was so dark there were some sections where you couldn't even see the white lines on the edge of the track. So much fun :D
On topic, I recommend the 908 all da way. either that, or If you want a real challenge then do it with a CIEN Caddy. I know it's not in the class, but you have to get a good tune to beat the racers and it's fun :D

I'm 15 hours into the Le Mans 24 and I can vouch for the 787B, suspension isn't that twitchy really, same as any LMP/Group C car however you'll need some throttle control coming out of the chicanes and Arnage for example, specially if it's raining.

I'm not walking away with anything other than first place on this try, so I've been using softs on the dry and intermediates on the wet for maximum grip and durability (don't look at me, that's how PD programmed it) You'll have a nice close race with the Audi R8s or Pescarolos though if you switch to mediums or hards, or use full rain tires when the AI uses them too (90% surface water and above)

Although when you and the AI are both on inters, you might lose a second or so per lap if you don't hunker down and drive the hell out of the Mazda, it becomes a very level playing field for me at least when we're all on those tires.

The real fun starts with no aids and stock LMP´s/Group C´s in the rain and when the chassis wears out. :)

I used the Bentley Speed 8 and enjoyed it.

Try a stock R10 very close race.

Made up my mind, I'm using the R92CP and I've got a little over a 2 lap lead 3 1/2 hours in. Thanks for the help guys.

What are your lap times and how many laps do you do before pitting? I'm planning to use my 787B too.:)

Fastest lap in the dry has been a 3:24.xxx (actually came to within a second of that at night when the rain let up) on racing softs. I did leave some drafting room in my gear ratios for whenever I run into backmarkers down Mulsanne, so I suppose I could squeeze about a second more out of that if it were closed up a bit.

Nonetheless, since it's been the soggiest Le Mans I've ever seen I've had to run about 14 hours out of the 18 I've done so far in the wet. On 100% surface water, fastest lap on intermediates I believe has been about a 3:50.xxx. Fastest lap on rain tires somewhere around 4:01.xxx which I only did out of sheer curiosity, forget rain tires.

Racing softs usually last me about 8-9 laps, depending on how well I treat them. Mediums about 7-8. Hards... well why bother?
Intermediates actually have the longest life span namely because the standing water acts as some sort of buffer between the rubber and the track, plus they don't slip as much. I'm positive I could deplete the gas tank on the 787B three times over on the same set of intermediates if the game allowed me to keep the same tires on.

Wait, Mediums last shorter!?

They do. Someone at PD figured GT5 should take the compound into consideration, but it's the slipping and sliding that should determine how fast tires are depleted. To put it another way, the more you exceed the gripping power of a tire the more its life span will decrease.

Naturally, a soft tire will grip more under acceleration and cornering thus it doesn't wear as fast as a hard compound tire, which is a lot easier to push to the limit of its gripping power.
Same goes for intermediates and rain tires, rain tires grip way less than inters on a fully soaked track (yet another programming fault) so inters last the longest of all tires depending on the condition of the track. At least that's what I've seen on the 24 hours I'm running.

That's good to know, thanks 👍

I heard the BMW V12 might be the fastest'

7 hrs of 24 and it has never quit raining.. i'm starting to think that it could last for the entire race

Thanks. Seems the softer the tyre the longer they last... Kinda stupid.. In practise my hards lasted for around 6 laps, hehe.:p Guess the best tyres for this race are the racing meds.:) Will do some practise laps tomorrow after my B-spec drivers finished their Le Mans 24h in the RB2010.

I hear ya, on my run it's rained from about hour 3 to hour 7, and then again since hour 10 until where I'm at now, 3 hours away from finishing. So much water has come down the Sarthe river would've overflowed and flooded most of the Le Mans region by now, I feel like I should scrape moss off my Mazda it's been covered in moisture so long.
