I hear ya, on my run it's rained from about hour 3 to hour 7, and then again since hour 10 until where I'm at now, 3 hours away from finishing. So much water has come down the Sarthe river would've overflowed and flooded most of the Le Mans region by now, I feel like I should scrape moss off my Mazda it's been covered in moisture so long.
:D
update: time 9h15m RAIN RAIN RAIN... never quit!

Fastest lap in the dry has been a 3:24.xxx (actually came to within a second of that at night when the rain let up) on racing softs. I did leave some drafting room in my gear ratios for whenever I run into backmarkers down Mulsanne, so I suppose I could squeeze about a second more out of that if it were closed up a bit.

Nonetheless, since it's been the soggiest Le Mans I've ever seen I've had to run about 14 hours out of the 18 I've done so far in the wet. On 100% surface water, fastest lap on intermediates I believe has been about a 3:50.xxx. Fastest lap on rain tires somewhere around 4:01.xxx which I only did out of sheer curiosity, forget rain tires.

Racing softs usually last me about 8-9 laps, depending on how well I treat them. Mediums about 7-8. Hards... well why bother?
Intermediates actually have the longest life span namely because the standing water acts as some sort of buffer between the rubber and the track, plus they don't slip as much. I'm positive I could deplete the gas tank on the 787B three times over on the same set of intermediates if the game allowed me to keep the same tires on.

My goodness... How do you get a 3:50 and 4:01 with inters and full wets? I just did some practise laps, 100% wet surface and raining, only got to 4:19 on full wets and 4:25 or smth on inters.:nervous: Seems I have a lot of practise to do, hehe..💡

Do you have any idea what the AI is doing in the rain?

I'm 16 1/2 hours in with the 787B. It rained the first 14 hours but on day break the rain stopped and now the track is fully dry. I've done 3:57 laps on full wets. Have not used inters because the track was 100% humid. Now on racing softs i'm lapping at 3:22. I have a 2 lap lead so the race is entertaining. I was actually suprised I was lapping better times in the dark and rain.

Ai is doing 4:04 - 4:07 laps in the rain (Bentley and Pesky c60)

I got the 908 last night and its beast i won like the wind with it which by the way gives you the minolta toyota.

Throttle control. Lots and lots of it. I did most of the race with TCS on just so I wouldn't cook the rear tires too much but even with it on you need to go halfway down the throttle in 2nd gear corners like the chicanes, even in 3rd gear you can't step on the gas indiscriminately. Plus remember to only use inters, you'll grip more regardless of surface water.

There's a book out there called "The Art of Racing in the Rain", if you like dogs as well as racing it's a great read. In the book a certain passage said that to be good at racing in the rain you have to drive as if you have egg shells between your feet and the pedals. This is very true on GT5.

I'd use a C60 Hybride with a high-range turbo, 1000+ horsepower and with the right driving style it is insanely fast.

i used it in a 1 hour le mans race on arcade mode against hard AI, had to pit 3 times in the last 5 laps because i picked the wrong tires each time and i still got 1st place. and i was reaching speeds of 245mph on the straights aswell.

EDIT: just be sure to use TCS otherwise it will try to kill you.

EDIt again: sorry, didin't notice you had already started.

When I attacked the Le Mans 24hr, I used the 908 with about 700bhp under my thumb :)

The only difference for me over you guys is that I had perfect weather the whole time, although it did look a bit ominous at times!

I won the race by just 2laps, and it was nailbiting to say the least lol

Looking forward to doing it again sometime, and also cracking the Nurb 24hr.... Which I think I will be using Kaz's own GTR :)

Just get a car with lights, really, otherwise its not a challenge, just impossible...i wanted it to do in a FGT as someone suggested, but even if u turn up the brightness on GT AND the telly u cannot see anything...i just lost 6 hrs...

slightly off topic, but does it rain every single 24h race you play?
has anyone ever done a 24h race where it did not rain?

Questions like "what is the best car for X race" makes me wonder if people actually wanna play the game or only get it over with.

Hybrid C60 is an underated car that does wonders on Le Mans with the right tune and transmission.
Was so easy to win it wasn't even a challenge...

No

See the post by me, 2 posts above yours!

Sometimes it helps to read the posts than just ask the question ;) especially when the topic is very short at present :)

Thanks. Will practise more with that using my DS3 controller then.:) Though just shifting early might help too, haven't tried that yet.

I did it with the DS3 also and shifting early, or at least at 8000 rpm might be a good idea. Best of luck.

Thanks. Will practise a lot more before taking on the 24h of Le Mans, don't want to screw up that one.:)

I noticed during my b-spec race that in the last hour (or even several hours) the AI was pitting every lap (almost) since the drivers got tired, does that happen in a-spec too? Hope not, otherwise it'll be a too easy win...

Are racing softs still faster than racing wets/intermediates in the rain?

I don't believe so, slick tires like racing softs will lose grip if driven over a wet track. At least they programmed that properly.

Agree, except that PD has Grip Reduction set to "low" for all ASpec races, which makes the wet tracks grippier than they would be in real life. Which in turn makes Racing Softs faster than Racing Wets/Intermediates. So unless they've corrected that...

That I noticed.
