It does look like a Volkswagen Typ 42

But I'll throw in Porsche 356 too.

Apparently they were the prototype for a slightly restyled and more powerful 914. I'm not sure whether it should be counted or not, as only 11 prototypes were built. What do yinz think?
 
Were they sold as a production car? Probably not if only 11 were built
 
To which I again say so what? Concept cars are fascinating and people are still guessing them. Not entirely sure why we need that rule. For every Porsche 916 I could give you 100 more obscure "production" cars.

Because rules are rules, if you didnt agree with them then you shouldnt have posted the pic, somebody just got disallowed for it, and that was on a more available car than the 916

I didn't post any pic, just not sure why concept cars aren't allowed, if they are still guessable (and pretty much any car is guessable with a few clues thrown in)

EDIT: Sorry Neal I should point out that it was a general observation, not directed specifically at your post. I can see how that may have seemed the case.

I was thinking that they were not visually different .
5. The OP may not demand that guessers guess the trim level or model variation unless it is a significantly different car.

It was never made available for sale it technically not a production car .

I realise the point you're making, however, I have to draw the line somewhere, and production cars seem like a logical boundary. The problem is that if concepts are allowed then people will probably dig up obscure concepts that nobody will ever guess. If you want to start a 'Guess That Concept or Race Car' thread, feel free.
 
Agreed, hell I would almost certainly play "guess that concept etc" but I think it makes the game more accessible to have some idea of what types of cars are allowed right off the bat. I have no problem with points being given for minor cases like this since they were guessed rather quickly but if it becomes common (which it's almost starting to at this point) then obviously that wouldn't be ok.

It wasn't clear to me that that one had been finished but apparently it has. It all happens overnight in my timezone so I often have to go through 3 pages or so. :(
 
Just to give my view on this, according to the Wikipedia article the Porsche was available to the general public to buy. While it says under the Wikipedia heading it is a prototype, at least one was still a proper road legal car and was sold to the general public in some part of the world (USA), therefore I don't see how it breaks any of the rules stated in the OP.

The cars were originally planned to be produced but it was shelved due to the high price tag. I will admit after google image searching the 916 I saw loads of different colour 916's so I, perhaps wrongly, assumed it was allowed. That's my opinion on the whole thing anyway.
