Well, it looks like a Mirage... but it can be a Kfir too. I'll stick to the Mirage.
 
Its Funny You said Kfir , which I almost put up , that would have been more obscure so I opted for the Dassault Mirage IV. Well Done.
 
I know that it's a model, not a real plane, but it's the best picture I could find.

Now that's an interesting one. It looks like a Grumman F9F Panther/Cougar derivative, but not quite. This is going to take some real thinking.
 
That's what I'd say, but it seems too blunt in the nose to be a panther.
 
I think it's safe to tell that this plane has nothing to do with the Panther, it's a completely separate plane. One of the best-looking jets ever (in my opinion of course) but very little known.
 
The rudder with the subfins is nagging me, but I can't quite figure it out. Good one, Greycap!
 
All i can thnk of is a P80, crossed with an F86 with a shortened Meteor III nose stuck on for good measure. :odd: :lol:
 
That's actually a really good description. I figured out what it is, but it took way too much Google for me to do it, so I'm not going to answer.
 
I give another tip: Look at the forward part of the canopy (the one that doesn't slide) and think which famous Navy plane has a similar one. You might get it then. 👍

If someone gets even the company right, it'll be quite an achievement.

That, for me at least, narrows it down to an F9F, a Vought F8, a Sea Hawk, Sea Vixen.... :lol:
 
Hmm...thinking about it more, that front cockpit does start to smack of the Vought F8U, but my knowlede of US navy jets is somewhat limited. :indiff:
 
This needs bumping... jammyozzy is on the right track.
 
Well, I've done some investiative work, and the only Vought I din't reconise is the F6U Pirate, so I'll go with that.
 
And he scooooores! Vought F6U-1 Pirate, it only reached prototype status. For me the forward part of the canopy resembled that of the Corsair, especially the F4U-4 model. :)
 
Petlyakov Pe-2, that particular model is the Pe-2FT. :p

The knowledge of airplanes in this thread makes me nervous. I used to be into planes as a little kid, and this was one of my favorites. I'm sure it'll be simple. You gotta love those silver rubber tires, though, and it's a powerful plane:

 
It occurs to me that I've seen one of these before. It looks vaguely like a Eurofighter, but the USAF printing on the bottom of the wings pretty much kills that possibility.
I'm pretty sure that I've even seen one of these fly at a press day before an airshow.... If only I could come up with a name.
 
Confirmed, Sbatts6. It's an XB-70 Valkyrie. Fairly amazing aircraft. There are pictures floating around the 'net of inside that intake system - you could hold a good size party in there. The cockpit was something like 25 feet off the ground and 40 feet ahead of the nose gear - made taxiing quite a feat, I bet.

Easy, huh? We have one out at Wright Patterson, in the Airforce Museum. The only thing bigger in the hangar is a B-52. The Valkyrie has six monstrous engines and the front half of the fueselage is so long it has to be supported by an extra stand halfway out. I don't remember any of its stats, though it wasn't anywhere near as fast as you'd think it should be. And Slicks, I think a Eurofighter would fit comfortably inside this jet's air intake.

The shape of the rudder is a clue: it's typical of the manufacturer's line, and certainly at the approximate vintage of this number. Another small hint: it did both military and civillian service in its day.
 
Somehow the tail reminds me of the Grumman warbirds, especially the Tigercat... but the Mustang has a tail like that too.

The nosegear resembles that of the Tigercat, so I'll go with the Grumman anyway.
 
The whole plane smacks of a Beechcraft Twin Bonanza, but it doesn't look quite right. :odd:
