That is a full sized model of the little known T-Wing Rebel Starfighter George Lucas scrapped a few months into making Star Wars: Episode IV. Look closely, you can see there are 10 R2-D2s strapped to it.

экранопла́н

LOL even Lucas isn't that rich...

OK, I was looking for the term ekranoplan but yes, Caspian Sea Monster or WIG or ground effect plane are all acceptable. Those happen to be 2 versions of the KM, the largest ekranoplan ever built: 300+ feet long, around 550 tons loaded, and capable of 250+ mph! A real monster indeed.

DQuaN, go for it; you most correctly identified it first.

I saw somwhere that it was 350mph, an unofficial speed record that still stands. And someone wants to beat it by building a five THOUSAND ton version.

Anyway

*edit* and if you look up two posts you will see i got ekranoplan. Probaby just as you were writing your post!!

ekranoplan - doesn't that refer to a type of plane rather than a model of plane?

My point being isn't this about guessing models of planes rather than types?

i.e. if their was a B52 I could say 'bomber' and win.

B52 = model
bomber = type

I think you're being excessively literal. Given the obscurity of the type of aircraft (and technically it is an aircraft), I was just looking to see if anybody knew about them.

its not that modern, its an Israeli military transporter

*edit* its a short range STOL aircraft that was developed in the 60's and entered service in the early 70's

Good job EvO *dont know how to do thumbs up, but if I did there would be one here!*

OK, so it's EvO's go... post one up big guy!

I think I've been staying updated on the leader board. I'm trying, anyway.

Is it not a turbine? I don't see any inlets.
