It's not outside Europe.

I really have thrown you for a loop there. Just so you know, those buildings are not your standard garden variety buildings, they're special!

Your last hints between the lines caught my attention... astonishing how ppl read right past "leading off trail" and even "garden" in italic 😅

Admittedly had no clue beforehand and still don't recognize any of the structures in the photo.

I'll have a pic up later.

The buildings are of a parking area/gas station just above the long straight before the double corners that lead up to the finish line. Maybe it was too hard of a guess, as it's not something people would recognize mid-race. Looking forward to your puzzle!
